Target Merle Hay is a-ok. Smaller version of the "super" Target that is only 5 min away. The layout of this location is different from the rest. It's also located and attached to the mall. Grocery can be found here. This location had some items in stock that others would be fully stocked. Nice collection of everything that a larger store would have: Opalhouse, Hearth and Hand, seasonal clothing brands, vegan items, electronics, bikes. I can tell they stock less of the items due to space. Service is ok. I tend to see same cashiers and customer service managers. I hardly come here but I have found that if other locations are out of something, I can find it here via Target app. Drive up pick up is offered here. Parking lot can be crazy. Layout is similar to others in DSM but just smaller. read more

Efficient, professional and great selections. Clothing is great quality and selections. Groceries are cheaper than Walmart, Fareway, Price Chopper and especially Hy-Vee. This Target's Layout is different than any other Target I have ever been in! So at first is was a bit confusing, but It's also really nice and modern, and I have seen some items here that I have not see at other Targets! If you are going to be doing some Christmas shopping I always tell people that Merle Hay Mall is a good spot, cause they just don't get the crowds other area malls get, and that is the same for this Target, We are 2 1/2 weeks from Christmas and this store was pretty empty, which I prefer If Im scouting out some gifts! I am an avid loyal Target "guest", and I am found at a Target store at least four to five times a week! This Target, a refreshing anchor to Merle Hay Mall's lineup (opening in 2006 from their "blah" location over by MLK Parkway and Douglas Avenue), is convenient, clean, and it's the closest one to my house! This Target has been given the "Pfresh" update, meaning it has an extensive line of produce, cold items and dry grocery. I know there are three Super Target stores within 20 minutes of this Target, but this Target is great for grocery shopping! Also, there's a Starbucks (and there's a corporate freestanding Starbucks not even 500 feet away in the parking lot!) and Food Avenue to boot up at the front checklanes (I tend to avoid Target stores that don't have a Starbucks, with the Southridge Mall location being the exception), and though I don't use it, there is a pharmacy for those that do need it. The store's size is exemplary for a standard Target, and has mostly everything I need. The prices are fair, the store's layout is not the traditional layout, but that's what makes visiting different stores fun! This Target is a true asset to Merle Hay Mall, and are glad they're here! read more

Hate the new remodel in Ankeny. Seems like the set up has wasted a lot of space. I thought the old layout was much better

I live right near this Target so I end up here A LOT. The employees here are crazy nice and super helpful. Since this location is newer I think it's a little nicer (the West Des Moines one has been doing renovations, I know but the layout confuses me)... Random side note, I think this location's clothing selection is a little bigger and better than the WDM location. I have recently been obsessed with using Target's Cartwheel app--they have mobile deals on hundreds of things that you're already buying at Target and then some. One thing that I realized is that just because I added the deal to my list doesn't mean it's going to be at that particular store. So I guess I'm noticing maybe this Target isn't as well stocked as I used to think. That said, for the simple Target run, this location takes the cake for me! read more

I love Target stores, they have a very modern theme inside and the stores themselves are very well-maintained. Target is basically Walmart, but better services, products, and overall shopping experience for a slight increase in prices from Walmart. I know many people who have worked with Target and they really like the team members. You are really able to see the better shopping experience once you enter a Target compared to Walmart.I love how this is connected to the mall! read more

I was looking for a specific coffee maker and this Target said they had them in stock. I drove there, past two other Targets, because they didn't have it in stock. The shelves were in disarray and not one of what I was looking for. I thought, maybe, they had sold out by the time I got there. I checked, on line, while in the store, not sold out. Probably a step up from the Southridge Mall. However, people have told me that it's a bit ghetto in terms of location. With the renovation, I still prefer this one over the Southridge Mall. Nicely done and easy access to the mall for Yonkers, etc. read more

I love Target, no matter where its located!!!! The store is only one level but is HUGE. Things were easy to find and the cashier service here was FAST. They have a Starbucks inside which I visited. People at the Starbucks were nice and quick too!!! Had my drink in less than 5 minutes. Parking was plentiful. read more

This isn't a bad Target to stop at for not being a Super. We found out on this trip that they don't actually get the same products as the Supers. We were looking for some K'Nex toys and one of the employees said that they don't get the name brand ones but sell the generic version. We'd have to go to a Super for the real thing. I found that kinda odd but I digress..... This isn't a bad place to come to for some quick shopping. The store is pretty clean and the staff is very friendly! read more

Targets are okay if you a) aren't in a hurry, and b) don't mind the door hitting you on your backside on the way out! ..with their new 'self-serve' check lanes, I'm convinced that they're a smoke screen for reducing help staff. Not only is it impossible to get checked out by a person, now, but its also impossible to use the self-serve lanes if you have more than a handful! There is no place to stack the large items after scanning them, and if you put them back in your cart, the system stops working. UGH! ..label the system better, if its so great! And if you ever DO get a real person, good luck in getting a simple 'thank you'.. because of course, they're doing YOU a favor by not making you use the self-serve check lanes!!! This lifetime customer will definitely be looking for an alternative to Target. Just hope that their lousy service catches up to them! read more

I love target. I used to go to Walmart a lot but had So many bad experiences. So I switched over. I love target. Had everything I need and more. I always go there and end up leaving with more or talking myself out of spending so much money. I've had a lot of price problems with the ire end not ringing up how there marked but there always so kind and take care of it. I went in tonight and it was awful. I was there for an hour and towards the end I found a really good deal on some juice. I go to check out and it's 5$ more than what i saw the price say. So I have them take it off. I end up going back because I really wanted the juice but I take a pic of the tag this time I go up they change the price it was no hassle. But I get home and I taste it, it was chunky and had a terrible terrible aftertaste. I look at the best buy date and it's a month and a half old. I've never had a problem at any store with food so I've never looked at the dates, I just assumed such a big company would b on top of that. A So I go in and I tell the cashier how old the juice is while having my receipt and she calls a manager. The manager comes over and asks me an I tell him how bad the juice was and he looks at the juice and makes the nasty face cause yes. The fact I drank it thinking it was gonna be good Is Disgusting. They asked if I wanted just to switch it out but I was like no thank you I just want my refund I was in a hurry tonight and didn't have time to look at every single juice they had. I'm happy they fixed it and I got my money back. Sucks that I had to come back. I hope this never happens to anyone else read more

I always prefer Target over Walmart but this one is extra nice. There was so many employees all over the place to help you. Which in my opinion is something that Target usually offers anyway. Everything seemed nice and clean. All the employees seemed friendly and willing to help if you needed anything. This is a store that is big and spacious where I didn't feel cramped up. I like that they have price check options all over the place. This Target also carries a nice variety of groceries. read more

I recently went into target in Des Moines Iowa ,meral hay mall, I believe the north target. While shopping with my husband for movies on his birthday. We noticed a bigger man watching us. At first we didn't think anything of it until he stared at us continuously. I then got uncomfortable and went to look for pillows for our home while my husband continued looking at movies. Neither of us recognized the man until I walked close to him and noticed it was a target uniform that said "security on the back with a target logo on the front". Although we thought this man was strange we continued looking around for items of interest. Once I was in a different section of the store I noticed the man was staring at me from the section across from me. I then left the housing area walking towards my husband and the security guy walked the same pace as I did to the movie section, I stopped looked to my right and the security man stood there, I stood there turned to my left then he turned. I turned to my right to walk over and tell my husband "we need to leave" the man had made us to uncomfortable to continue shopping. My husband and I proceeded to the front of the store while looking over to our left and noticing the security guard hiding behind a sign on clothes. I then pointed at him and said " are you serious? Way to loose a costumer". We proceeded towards the exit while noticing the security guard taking apart carts to put in a row in front of the exit door. We proceeded towards the exit, I then turned to the man and said " sir, usually nurses don't steal things, thanks for chasing us off". We walked out with no issue while he stared at us. This has been my worst experience yet. Especially sense I shop at this location WEEKLY. As a nurse I no in my profession how to treat people. We were extremely disrespected and treated as if we were garbage off the street. I am completely blown away at how awful our visit was. Please do something about this in the future so this doesn't happen to other costumers. read more

I have been in the store a few times for coffee. (Starbucks) I wont mention any names but one 'barista' in particular looks at me like I am crazy and annoying when I ask her what is in a certain coffee. I watch my weight closely so I am concerned with how much sugar/dairy etc is in my drink. I just started buying these fancy coffees, I don't know what is what. needless to say I will stick to Caribou, because when I confronted the manager after a few times experiencing the uncomfortableness from this barista, she stated to me, "she is not usually like that" well, I don't care if she is not usually like that, she was like that to me more than once.
