History

Established in 1973.

Tartan Properties Commercial Real Estate Services has served the Washington, D.C., metropolitan region for over 30 years, offering high quality, value-added, personal service. Founded by Jovan Porterfield in 1973, TARTAN carved out a niche as a leading landlord representative in the Northern Virginia commercial real estate market, focusing on the then underserved industrial market. Now in its second generation, TARTAN has expanded its services to meet the needs of an ever-changing market and a growing client list. Still firmly grounded in tradition, TARTAN continues to serve several of its original clients.

Meet the Business Owner: Michael P.

Mr. Porterfield is active in the community, serving on the board of directors of Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, is the past chair of the board of trustees for the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, is a member of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. As a native resident of Alexandria, Mr. Porterfield has a clear understanding of the surrounding community and a wealth of contacts to provide comprehensive service to his clients. In 2000, he took a leave of absence from real estate to pursue his other passion - rowing - and coached two American women to a Bronze Medal in the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. As an athlete Mr. Porterfield competed in five World Championships as a member of the US National Team and was inducted into Northeastern University's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003. He has also coached at Georgetown and Northeastern University's as well as T.C. Williams High School.
