Tartine is one of High Street's delightful gourmet cafes, full of delicious tidbits freshly made sometime in the wee hours of the morning. The smell alone when you walk in is enough to make you drool, as Mediterranean slices lace the air as a result of piping hot samosas being plated by the minute for hungry customers.
This isn't the place to go hunting for eggs on toast, your yogi plates or your Açai bowls - no, this is the place for cakes and slices, quiches and pastries and salads and masterful coffees (they've even nailed the soy latte, you guys! No burnt coffee or frothless cappuccinos here!) All the food is ready-made, but don't let that deter you - it's super fresh and full of flavour, and gets to your table in under 5 minutes. The Staff are friendly and efficient, perfectly happy to explain ingredients in food - but with premade food, there are no menu alterations, and for those of you out there with more obscure intolerances (e.g. Fructose), you might find an easier meal elsewhere.
I feel obliged to mention that they do takeaway! They also offer a selection of foods you can cook yourself - lasagnas, puddings, soups and pies, a few preserves and some freshly toasted mueslis - as well as sandwiches for an on-the-go lunch. But I don't know why you'd pick a sandwich when you could snag a hot samosa or three, complete with a small tub of sauce!
All in all, if you're in the area, you should totally drop by. So worth it. Yum - I'm totally getting another coffee now. read more
