I showed up for my appiintment today, and he already had someone else in his chair. i got a "Oh, well I got double booked by the front desk, and they were booked first". I saw the calendar a week ago when i made the appointment, and i saw it again today, i was the only one on the calendar. If you dont want to do the work thats fine, but dont jerk me around! They did refund my.koney, but i shifted my schedule to make this work..... I dont recommend going there. If you are getting something permenant, and that cists a lot of money, the least they could do is be up front.

I'm posting to warn others that SMITTY does hire underlings that have problems, and I assume he does this on purpose to give these people a chance, people that others would never hire. I went to Smittys to get an extremely simple tattoo, two words bordering my collarbone in Greek. These words were inspired by Victor Hugo's preface in The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. Smitty was busy so I was turned over to a different artist. She took issue with me right away, was condescending and claimed I was incorrect and that The Hunchback is a French book. I agreed that it is indeed a French book but in the preface Victor Hugo explains that the Hunchback carves in Greek in the bell tower. She continues to be skeptical and rude and raises her voice at me. This is a bizarre experience for me. I am in the middle of cancer treatment and getting the words "fate" and "need" tattooed on me as a last resort, a kind of hope for me. This tattoo artist is like a tick in my arm, such a minuscule setback. Eventually Smitty himself has to come over and clarify that the Hunchback had a classical Jesuit education and therefore would have been educated in Greek. She looks down and says "I never read the preface anyway." Well La-de-da, glad to know. The whole experience was degrading. She put the print on my body crooked and I asked her to fix it and she got upset with me. She still tattooed it on me crooked! She quizzed me on book knowledge the entire time. She charged me $150!!!! Pretty sure she added that last $50 out of spite. I tried to end on a good note and offered to lend her a rare Hungarian book my Laszlo Krasznahorkai. She laughed in my face and said she "probably already had it," as I was leaving she was still laughing at me. I was warned by another person at Smittys BEFORE I got the tattoo that she has a reputation for not getting along with people, but I am Buddhist so I figured I can handle it, but tattooing purposefully crooked is wrong, utterly wrong.

I waited a few days and got no reply. I called & left a message... no reply. I emailed again, still to no avail, and I planned to call one last time before finding someone else to do my tattoo. I was so happy that they answered. I scheduled an appointment for a consultation. I was there 15 minutes before my appointment time, stayed until 15 minutes after my appointment time. No one was there. Door was locked. Tried to call and got a voicemail, which was now full. No one ever called me to explain why or reschedule.

We showed up 10 minutes early and waited for over an hour. Nik never showed up. We booked another appointment for another day/time and he showed up. We were his first tattoos and it was at 10:00 am. Nik took a couple shots of something prior to tattooing. I thought nothing of it because during prior conversations, he indicated that he was not a drinker . Daughter wanted a simple , minimalistic and small daisy behind her ear (black -no color ). My tattoo was going to take much longer . What she got was something that resembled a tube rose but actually looked more like male genitalia. He added red ink to said tattoo. My tattoo was to be a silhouette with background coloring. It looked more like a cartoonish character (asked for realistic) and the coloring was heavy in some areas and light in other areas and the coloring was NOT what I asked for . Nik wiped my back with one hand while resting the gun in the other hand on the back of my head. He dropped the gun and while it dropped, it knocked over the tray. He caught it by the cord before it hit the floor and for a moment I thought it was going to hit me. I sent him a DM and told him how unhappy we were. I was more concerned about my daughters tattoo than my own. His comeback was "you signed a waiver". I don't know what he was taking shots of that morning but his work that day was sloppy , careless, lacked simple directive, integrity and he was more than arrogant. He could have cared less about our concerns. Its a shame because I initially thought of him as down to earth, detail oriented and highly skilled. His pics on his page and website reflect amazing artistry , however for my daughter and I, we were more than disappointed and ended up paying twice for our tattoos by having tattoos covered up. In general, I want people to succeed. this applies to Nik as well but with that said , I would have preferred another no-show or cancellation over this experience .

Instagram is a beautiful thing. Lol As soon as I saw her style and quality of work, I had to make an appointment. I messaged her through Instagram and she told me to call in to schedule a consultation. I spoke with the friendly receptionist and I had a consult scheduled easily within the next few days. Due to covid I was really hesitant of going anywhere since this virus is literally taking over the world lol. But anyways I went in and met Denise. She was very efficient and personable. We talked about what I wanted and she was excited to come up with ideas. Which I knew no matter what it'd turn out dope. Due to my hectic schedule and hers as well we found a date that worked. She requires a $60 deposit that will go towards your tattoo. Definitely understandable just in case I was a flake. Our tattoo artists time is precious. Especially if we are having them sketch an original piece just for you. When I arrived for my actual appointment, I came in 15min early. Just so I could give courtesy to Denise and of course paperwork. I was so excited when she showed me what she drew up. She listened to everything I f*cking wanted. Ayyyyyeeeeee! Finally a tattoo artist I felt 100% confident in. Denise was very thoughtful of placement and what looked good on me. I've had tattoos done from a few different artists around the world and I'll say Denise was the best one I've Eva had. :P AHUUUAHHHH! I'm not even trying to front for this review.
