I'm giving this at least 1 star for SMITTY who is a good man in a crazy world. He is consistently kind, creative, always a good listener, and fun to be around. I'm posting to warn others that SMITTY does hire underlings that have problems, and I assume he does this on purpose to give these people a chance, people that others would never hire. I went to Smittys to get an extremely simple tattoo, two words bordering my collarbone in Greek. These words were inspired by Victor Hugo's preface in The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. Smitty was busy so I was turned over to a different artist. She took issue with me right away, was condescending and claimed I was incorrect and that The Hunchback is a French book. I agreed that it is indeed a French book but in the preface Victor Hugo explains that the Hunchback carves in Greek in the bell tower. She continues to be skeptical and rude and raises her voice at me. This is a bizarre experience for me. I am in the middle of cancer treatment and getting the words "fate" and "need" tattooed on me as a last resort, a kind of hope for me. This tattoo artist is like a tick in my arm, such a minuscule setback. Eventually Smitty himself has to come over and clarify that the Hunchback had a classical Jesuit education and therefore would have been educated in Greek. She looks down and says "I never read the preface anyway." Well La-de-da, glad to know. The whole experience was degrading. She put the print on my body crooked and I asked her to fix it and she got upset with me. She still tattooed it on me crooked! She quizzed me on book knowledge the entire time. She charged me $150!!!! Pretty sure she added that last $50 out of spite. I tried to end on a good note and offered to lend her a rare Hungarian book my Laszlo Krasznahorkai. She laughed in my face and said she "probably already had it," as I was leaving she was still laughing at me. I was warned by another person at Smittys BEFORE I got the tattoo that she has a reputation for not getting along with people, but I am Buddhist so I figured I can handle it, but tattooing purposefully crooked is wrong, utterly wrong. read more

Got my very first tattoo done here about 2 years ago by the AMAZING Jesse D. And about 6 months ago I got more work done by him. Let's just say, this man is so good I flew up from California just to see him for my second tattoo because I refuse to let anyone else work on me. HIS WORK IS THAT GOOD. This place is the best place to go if you wanna get a tattoo. All the artists there are talented, and put the customers wants and needs first. They are extremely friendly and make you feel welcome the second you walk in. The shop is clean and sanitary, and the artists are very professional when it comes to using the proper protective equipment. Everything is sterile and gloved up. Nothing is ever out of place or left a mess. Even their bathroom is extremely clean (Which is an extra plus)! If you're thinking about getting a tattoo, Smittys is the place to go. The artists are willing to sit down with you and make your ideas become reality. You can bet that I'll be flying up to Washington from California again when I want to get more work done! read more

Jesse D did my tattoo, and the experience was amazing. Never having a tattoo, I came in there with a base Idea of what I wanted, and Jesse made it even better than I thought possible. He handled me being nervous getting a huge thigh piece as a first tat very well, his lines are so clean and crisp even though Im sure i was shaking like a Chihuahua. I constantly get compliments on my tattoo. I can't wait to finish it. I always suggest Smittys when people ask where to get tattoos. Really clean shop. read more

I LOVE all the artists at Smittys Place. They are all incredibly talented and dedicated. All of my tattoo work is either done by Miss Bonnie or her father, Smitty. I know I can always trust her to make me a peice of artwork that is tailored to be fit for me. I know that I will always be worked on in a clean, sterile environment with people who know what they are doing and want to make sure that everyone is satisfied with the final product. At Smittys they are not the kind of people to nickle and dime you to squeeze every last session out of you over a big peice. If you can handle sitting for a 4 - 5 session you can get a longer session there. Its not about the money, its about the artwork, which if you go down and just look at their books or the facebook, that alone can stand out. The only thing is, like any good shop, they are busy and things can get going. So keep that in mind if you walk in and no one gets to you right away. :) Best tattoo shop in Bremerton. read more

Was in town from WI for my former submarine crew reunion and decided to have my Dolphins tattooed on my chest, 30 years after they were pinned there. Wanted to find a shop that knew what I was talking about when I said I wanted sub dolphins. Any place I looked at here in WI or even some shops I looked at in WA didn't even know what I was talking about. Even given my short time availability, Smitty was able to work me in the schedule. He and I worked on the design, taking some photos I found online as the basis and he came up with an excellent design. It looks even better in the ink! Clean, bright shop, reasonable pricing... I've been utterly devoted to "my" tattoo artist on the eastside for years, so naturally I was nervous going someplace new. But I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and care I got here. Jesse took great pride in my tattoo, even if it was a dorky foot tattoo. He took the time to redraw it into something that was way awesomer than I had expected. I hate to do this, because I do love Smitty... when I lived here 8 years ago and he still had his shop on 6th I got a beautiful tattoo for a great price... but recently I came back for a birthday tattoo... I was committed to spending nearly 200 for the simple tattoo that I wanted, so when the artist quoted me considerably less I felt pretty lucky. Well that's where my luck ran out, not only did he make me sit around for nearly 2 hours, each time he brought me the draw up for my tattoo I was less than impressed... I should have just taken the loss of my deposit and left, but I felt like he was doing me a favor. Each time he tried to fix it he came back about 20 min later with not much difference. He said the final piece would look much better and it didn't. Over all I am not ashamed of the piece, it is ok, but I still feel like it's not what I really wanted and it's probably partly my fault for not speaking up, but artists sometimes have that air about them like you're insulting them by asking for something different. It's my body though, right? Ultimately one artist doesn't represent a shop, and I think Smitty has some really talented people working for him, but make sure that you know what you're getting and you get what you pay for. Absolutely disgusting! The shop was dirty, basic chores didn't look done so everything just looked grimey, the tools & supplies were scattered and unorganized. When I walked in, an artist talked to me about price while tattooing someone else (distraction much?!) Wasn't too impressed with the work they showed me but would NEVER go there for sanitation reasons alone. After mentioning my experience to some other local tattoo enthusiasts, I've been told there's rumors of rats, and I'd believe it. Prices may be cheap but it's not worth sacrificing safety over. Wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more
