Taunton High Street always seems to have an old-fashioned Christmasy feel to it. Its not a huge shopping town but most of the main high street shops are here, e.g. Next, Boots, Debenhams, Zavvi as well as some good small gift shops. There are few good restaurants but I have been a bit disappointed by the food choices in Taunton. A lot of the pubs I used to like here (e.g. Chambers, Tudor Tavern) have closed down or changed into cafe's or trendy bistro's so I wouldn't normally choose Taunton for a night out. read more

This is a lovely town, loads of great shops and places to eat. There is a great range of the high street stores, but there is also a good selection of independant stores in the town. Car parking facilities are very close by and all the town is easy to cover by foot. nice wide pavements and pedestrian crossings spaced throughout so it is really family friendly too. Best town within miles. read more

Taunton high street is actually fairly small for a town of this stature. This is because a significant number of the standard chain stores are located on the other main roads leading into the town centre. However, it's got a few good precincts and alleys off the main pedestrianised zone which help to strike a balance between the brands and the independent traders. Cafe Culture hasn't really fully hit the town yet, which is a shame as this area could be really pretty. Oh and legend has it there are magical gentleman's urinals which appear out of the ground at a suitable time upon the weekend. read more

Personally I think Taunton High Street is brilliant for a trip into town. There are all the brands you would expect Next, New Look, Argos, Bhs, Topshop, Topman, River Island, Sports World, JJB, Debenhams, Boots, Woolworths and Dorothy Perkins. As you can see there are a large range of shops, aswell as these there are a large range of food shops such as Gregs (2), Mc Donalds, Subway, KFC, The conservatory and The Fish Place. There are hundreds of brilliant shops, although if you wanted a bigger selection you could go to nearby Exeter, but for me Taunton High Street is fantastic. read more

taunton is a lovely town with plenty of character it is a lovely town where to come & relax & have a good day out if you like shopping near by is the west somerset railway with good bus links which goes from bishops lydeard to minehead in somerset read more

Taunton is a wonderful town, it's got a wide variety of shops and places to eat. The range of major high street stores is good, but it still has a large selection of independant stores too. There is a definate friendly atmosphere in Taunton and no matter where you go you are nearly always greeted with a smile/friendly hello! read more
