So I had to get a haircut last minute and walked in on a Saturday. The guy that cut my hair was from Columbia and was learning English like barely basic level. The other barbers had to explain to him what I was trying to say. My cut is relatively simple. Taper the sides and low. I already knew it wouldn't be good once he started cutting backwards. Experienced barbers always ask how you comb/brush your hair first. The clippers he used seemed to be subpar as well as my hair was uneven in some places. Finally we get to the line up and there was a whole 5 minute discussion on how to do it. Once again experienced barbers know what to do. None of the barbers in there seemed to know enough bout different hair types. Also got a shave but that was a miss as well. Had small patches of hair all over. I would like to say a bad haircut is better than none at all. However, in this case I should have just saved my money. read more

Hahah this place is a joke. I called earlier in the day to get an appointment and they told me to come at 5. I arrived at 5 and the guy randomly asks me to come back at 7 or to wait 5.30. I tell him it's kind of weird since i called and he booked me in at 5, and that I was not available later. He told me to have a good day and kicked me out. This was because there was a guy sitting in the store who was apparently their friend and who absolutely needed a haircut now even though he had no appointment. Maybe the fault is mine as I am not from the US and thus not used to how things run here, but in europe if you want to make money with your business, then your friends do not have priority over customers who have appointments. These guys obviously don't know how to smartly run a business. They might have low prices but it comes at a cost. They are not organized, and the one who I spoke to was arrogant and showed a complete lack of respect. Actually the street where they are located is full of barber shops, and i found one which is called the spot barbershop. For literally 10 dollars more you will find yourself in a clean and organized place with respectful and professional staff. They also offer you drinks. Travel barbershop Waited about an almost close to 1 1/2hr which is decent when it comes to being a walk in and not setting an appointment. This shop is open so while your getting you hair cut you have the nice city breeze around. Also not bad spot for people watching. It's pretty clean and well located if your staying in a near by hotel. Over all it's a good place to go just because of the professional work that these barbers put into cutting your hair. I would come here again. A few things they can work on are having a Non-dripping air conditioner which is right over the waiting area. This area includes three fold up chairs and a leather coach which was alright. One thing I couldn't overlook was the barbers friends coming in and talking to him which then he paused cutting hair for a few minutes several times just working on one person. read more

After moving downtown I tried out four other places to get my hair cut and Tavel has been my favorite. I've been pleased with my haircut every time. Very professional. Thankfully, the guys cutting hair do not have the bad habits I've experienced at other places that think it's OK to stop cutting your hair to talk and text on their phones. Once that happens I never go back to the place. When you are in the chair at Tavel they focus on you! I did have an issue last month. They have a $20 special on Wednesdays - I made a point of going in on a Wednesday in order to save a few bucks. After I got home I noticed on the receipt that they charged their standard $25 price. Five dollars is not going to break me but I felt burned, like a Bait and Switch happened. That left a bad taste in my mouth like I have to keep an eye on them. If it happens again I'll definitely update this review. And never go back to them. read more

The price was amazing for a haircut. My boyfriend absolutely loved his haircut. He's had his haircut by every single barber in Tavel Barber Shop and they all have done an amazing job. It's rare that you find a place that EVERY single barber does an amazing job, but here at Tavel they are all experienced. I love it when he gets his haircut because every time I see him after his haircut he looks amazing. This is a nice alternative to Churchill's up the street (where you MUST have an appointment to get in). This is a quaint family-owned place. I walked in on a random Tuesday afternoon and was attended to immediately. It seems that the barbers much prefer to speak Spanish so that's something to keep in mind. My barber took his time and was very attentive. I'm a Military Soldier stationed in the Miami area. We are very used to getting haircuts every two weeks. When I first moved here I went to Tavel Barber Shop. In my 14 years in the Army I have never received better haircuts then what I receive at Tavel's Barber Shop. Tito is by far the best barber for me, but I had the opportunity to get my haircut by all barbers and they are all professional and great. I take my Son to get his haircut here and the place is super kid friendly. I have recommended other Soldiers, families and friends to this location because it truly is that good.
