Both of these errors have cost me tens thousands of dollars in tax penalties and loss of retirement savings. Desmet and Biggs accountants, specifically Megan Kinder and Keith Chaffin, did nothing to remedy this. I have since switched accountants to someone who is more honest, reliable, and knowledgable than the accountants at Desmet and Biggs.

Not finding any Yelp ratings for any of them in town, we chose Liberty Tax Service mostly because it's close to our residence. As walk-ins, we were greeted at the door by a friendly receptionist, given a form to fill out, offered a refreshment, & asked to wait. Our wait wasn't long, then a tax pro took us back to her desk. Fortunately we'd brought a good bit of our tax info with us--she asked lots of questions, looking for ways we might save $$, was very pleasant & friendly. More information was needed, we got an appt for the next day. She patiently entered all the details, double-checked our mathematics, and answered any questions we had. Although we still ended up owing Uncle Sam $$, it would've been a good bit more without their help. We were given copies of everything, and they are always available if we have further questions or get audited. A few negative comments are that it was very noisy, no privacy, and I felt they charged a lot for their services. I do recommend using Liberty Tax Service & most likely will use them again.

I used to recommend them to anyone looking for tax services; I no longer do, I don't use them either. The final straw was being contacted that they were missing a tax document. I immediately left work and brought them the missing document, same day. My urgency to rectify the issue was wasted. When I was finally notified to pick my taxes they'd tacked an extra ~$30 to file a (unnecessary) extension. They cited my missing tax document as the reason for the extension, which it wasn't. Their rationale, "we had no record of bringing the missing tax document, just a note it was once missing", sounds like a nice money grab. Additionally, I expect prices to rise but not as much as the fees do every year. I file a simple 1040 and started doing it myself, saving hundreds of dollars. Be prepared, they're very adamant they're not liable for any errors. Then wtf am i paying you for! DONE.

We are now being hit with a 'consulting' fee that was not disclosed and what should be $600 worth of tax work is now billing at over $1,000. Accountant said "I don't know" and "I'm not sure" so many times. Maybe if she knew what she was doing it wouldn't have taken so long. If you use them make sure you get ALL the trumped up fees fully disclosed BEFORE giving them your documents.
