Mike Hurdle and his staff ignore calls and emails. Mike himself is rude and abrasive and clearly feels that anyone who pays for his supposed expertise should not have a problem with his procrastination and failure to handle even relatively straightforward tax filings in a timely manner. Be warned: the IRS is after me for almost $80,000 of back taxes for ONE year when my former spouse and I used this so-called CPA to handle our taxes. Mike Hurdle lacks interpersonal skills and does not take the time to understand people's tax situations. I was shocked at how much taxes I had to pay despite paying my taxes all year and his response to me over the phone was, "You gotta pay your taxes". He's condescending and just doesn't do it for me. Mike has been "doing" our taxes for two years now. Over the last two years, he has been hard to get ahold of, his communications back are delayed and his general demeanor is unprofessional and combative. His fees are $241 per month for just being able to ask questions and file taxes. Because of his combative responses, I do not trust him to have our best interests in mind. BLUF: I never had issues with the IRS until M.H. was hired for his CPA services. I regret not reading the reviews before hiring him. If you have a security clearance...think twice about using Tax Time CPA. We normally have H&R Block file our taxes but because we sold a home in CA and bought investments properties in CO, we felt it was better to hire a CPA. In short- we hired M.H. to file our 2021 and 2022 taxes. We began to receive notices from the IRS and the state indicating we owed money for 2021. This prompted questions and emails to M.H, asking for an explanation to the letter and for a status update for the 2022 taxes. I reminded M.H. I was active duty, with security clearance and having tax issues is problematic. In over 20yrs of filing taxes, I never had IRS issues until he was hired. The IRS letter said we owed $5k for tax year 2021. M.H. was adamant we did not owe $5k, it was more like $500. I have an email to prove it. He said he would write the IRS a letter to dispute this balance. After a span of several months of trying to get through to M.H., emails and voicemails went ignored. (I would have driven to his office if I still lived in the local area.) Out of desperation, I got onto (his web-site) TaxTime CPA and scheduled a free phone consultation with him. He never called me and never sent the letter of dispute to the IRS because the IRS letters kept on coming with incrementing late fees. While on his website, I saw he was "endorsed by Dave Ramsey." This blew my mind! I called the Dave Ramsey representative to tell them what my experience was and to tell them I was not the only one he seems to blow off (I read the yelp reviews AFTER I was frustrated with him and his lack of service he has you pay for on a monthly basis). They said a mentor would be reaching out to M.H.. Not sure what came of it. We ended up paying the huge balance that ballooned with late fees because M.H. proved to be untrustworthy/unreliable. I eventually learned he NEVER FILED the 2022 taxes in 2022 despite having everything sent to him. I had been asking him for an update for 2022 taxes for over 6 months, this showed me he never bothered to check the status. Something about having a high turnover rate with employees and our taxes must have fallen through the cracks. The 2022 taxes ended up being filed in 2023. read more

Update: Mike has finally returned my call. A few things of note: 1: Mike did cancel my subscription when I requested it without any issue which I appreciated. 2: I confirmed with the Ramsey corporation that Mike is no longer an ELP despite continuing to advertise it on his website. According to the Ramsey Company they discontinued their relationship with him in April of 24. 3: Mike stated that he reviewed our taxes and he had somehow made an error (a $6000 dollar error) on our taxes by claiming we had paid quarterly payment in 2023. We did not... nor did any of our paperwork ever state we did. I assume in his rush to finish our taxes prior the 4/15 he mixed up our paperwork with someone else's. Prior Post: We hired Mike this year to complete our taxes because we had moved from out of state and were concerned about the complexity of our taxes. As we approached 4/15 I left multiple voicemails and calls requesting status updates all of which went unanswered. I finally caught Mike in person and he seems shocked to hear he had missed so many calls and voicemails. He finally sent us our paperwork on mid April, we paid and sent everything in. 3 days ago we received a letter from the IRS stating we had underpaid by nearly 6K (and its accumulating fees by the day). In 3 days I've left 3 voicemails (and called several more times without leaving a message) and I've sent two emails pleading for follow up. As of now there has been zero response but you better believe the monthly fees come out without any issue... no delays there! I am hoping this review serves as both a warning to others and a public plea to Mike to respond to my calls and emails. read more

Whatever you do, don't let Mike Hurdle within a mile of your taxes. I run a software company and his negligence will most likely cost my company hundreds of thousands of dollars in avoidable taxes. Basically, he's lazy and doesn't keep up with tax law and was 2 years late learning of a massive change in tax law that specifically affects the software industry. Had he kept up with tax law, which is his only job, we could have avoided a significant amount of the tax burden that has resulted from him totally dropping the ball. Look somewhere else if you need an accountant. I wish someone had warned me so I'm trying to do the same for others. read more

We hired Mike to help with our taxes this year. He sent us a link to a portal and provided no direction on what to add or where to add it. Emailed and called him multiple times without any responses. He finally tells us what to upload. We did so and then again wouldn't respond to us. All the while charging our card for his monthly access fees. So now we are out the "on boarding fee" and two months of "service" where he wouldn't respond to us. After we cancelled he finally responded and said sorry he missed my emails... yet I was paying to have access to him. He also continues to bill our card and refuses to refund us for doing absolutely nothing. We had to get a different CPA. No onboarding fee and they actually answer the phone. Buyer beware of Mike! I spoke with Mike in January, scheduling a meeting to drop off my tax documents. When I did we went over every document and he told me that I was ''Very organized and it should be plug and play" I had a 1099 that needed to go out and he said " I will do it today " . He did not send the 1099 out. It is now 2 weeks past the deadline to send out 1099's. He still has not sent it. When I expressed my displeasure, and brought up the fact the he told me he would " send it today " he told me " all you want to do is complain and tell me how I should do my job. You are entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to not work with you. Feel free to stop by and pick up your tax documents and take them to another tax preparer " that is a direct quote from his email. Really?!! He didn't get the form out on time like he promised and I am complaining? He wasted a month of my time during the beginning of tax season and 2 trips to castle Rock from Elizabeth. I find that extremely unprofessional and not how to treat a customer, especially when you are in the wrong by not doing what you said that you would do. read more
