Trashhhh service in all aspects of the drive. From pick up to drop off. Would not recommend

Let me begin by saying the driver, car and service was fine. My problem was the size of vehicle they sent. I called the night before to book a taxi. Made it very clear I needed a larger vehicle as there were 4 adults and 2 fat suitcases. They sent us a Prius! 3 of us crammed into the backseat and my husband had to sit up front. Horrible. Called Taxi Rob and from past reviews I guess part of his service is being rude/dickish on the phone. Taxi Rob was off so his partner came by and picked us up. Twenty minutes later the "taxi" showed up, but it was actually just a run down mini van with no markings, sign, etc. My niece asked me why I had to call such a ghetto service. We were supposed to go 3.5 miles (Normal Heights to Balboa Park). This genius takes 3 different freeways (805-94-163) to get there because its "faster". Since the "cab" was such a junker and his meter was literally a pad of paper and pen I figured it was some bargain service. Nope. The dude charges $20 for this long scenic drive. Do yourself a favor call a real service or hitchhike. read more

7-5-11 True to form Taxi Rob sent me a message attacking my character. It's interesting that some people are so insecure they need to put other people down to make themselves feel good. So let me say that Rob was the only "car service" that would pick an intoxicated boyfriend and I up in a timely manner for under one million dollars and take us to (humiliating) Taco Bell. Rob seemed fine on the phone to me and he would pick us up like pronto so I was pretty excited. Rob showed up in what I refer to as an astro van but insert any twenty plus year old van here. His (ex?) girlfriend was in the passenger and she opened the door for us. We exchanged our hello's and true to previous reviews he went all of the cool back ways. He drives cooler than me in my own neighborhood! My boyfriend got out at the bell and Rob and his (ex? I say this because I am pretty sure that they were broken up at the time. Which so were my boyfriend and I) girlfriend and I chatted in a friendly manner while we waited. They had a similar relationship to my boyfriend and I so that was interesting. As I looked around I realized that this was definitely a car that was used for life as well as business (Random stuff inside). My boyfriend came out with his order and my drunk self decided that we should go to the liquor store and get more alcohol while we still had a ride. Rob was happy to oblige. In my state I concluded that him and his girlfriend were the nicest coolest people ever and we got them a small cheap bottle of whiskey. On the way home I overheard Rob speaking rudely with what sounded like a potential customer. At this point I realized maybe we weren't best friends at all. I don't like rude business owners in the same way that I don't like rude customers; it's unfair and counterproductive. Oh what the morning brings! I realized the next day that although they were super nice to us, the old mini van was not what I had in mind when I called a car service and the way he was talking to the customer on the phone was actually kind of scary. Although things that night ended well I wish I would have maybe read a couple of more reviews before making the call. On a side note our fare was super cheap. read more

Taxi Rob is a legend in San Diego! I have out of town friends who beg me to call Taxi Rob when they visit me because there is no one like him. He is prompt, a good communicator if he is running behind, and a real straight shooter. He is also the least expensive taxi service I have ever used in San Diego. He is cynical but has a sense of humor, which I appreciate. If you take yourself too seriously/are easily offended, go elsewhere. You probably don't tip well anyway. read more

I needed to take a cab to the train depot in downtown San Diego. I don't typically use cabs, so I went on the Internet to find a ride. Luckily, I found Rob. I now have a 'driver'! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rob. Picked me in in plenty of time, both going to the train depot, and picking me up the next day and getting me home. Additionally, there was no shortage of conversation (or understanding) with an opinionated guy! It's not a limo, but you don't pay limo prices, either. Got the job done and did it well. Awesomeness in an Astro Van. The funniest, cheapest, and sometimes most cynical taxi driver you could possibly find. His jokes, cynicism, and banter have entertained and transported van-fulls of my friends across San Diego for fares unimaginably cheap, also usually making his cab rides a highlight to the beginning of our adventure. Did I mention he is always incredibly prompt? He is a really rad dude, and while some can find him gruff, it's definitely a large part of his charm and only adds to a the completely unique service that is the Taxi Rob Experience. Every single person I've brought in his cab has loved him, and he has transported a hefty amount of my friends. As a heads up (I'd read the other reviews so kinda knew this when I called) - Rob is not a "taxi service" . . . so don't expect a "Hello, Thank you for calling Taxi Rob" when you call . . . and don't expect a taxi to pick you up (it's a mini-van! fun!). It's Friday night and I am trying to catch a cab from Golden Hill to downtown. I call a random cab company and they never show. So I walk for blocks in hopes of finding a taxi and none of them are stopping for us. Do I look like a serial killer? Are they picking somebody up? Fuck this shit. I go on the yelp and I find Taxi Rob. For a good price, Taxi Rob picks us up in an Astro van at my house and drops us off wherever needed. Cash only, please be generous when tipping, this is such an amazing and reliable service. When calling, do not be thrown off by the man who picks up and only says, "Hello?" instead of the expected, "Thank you for calling Taxi Rob." The cool (and somewhat creepy, but not really) thing is, they remember where you live after your first time calling. The second time I called they were like, "We will be there at 10:00" "Wait! Taxi Rob took us to the airport and then home again after our trip last weekend. Very prompt and was very flexible with our flight being 40 minutes late getting back. We've also used him in the past and have always been very pleased. He's a very safe driver, does door-to-door service, and even loads bags in and out of his car. Very reliable dude with a clean van. He doesn't mince words, so if you need someone to be a chill beach dude, he's not your guy. But if you don't mind an interesting conversation while on your way, you'll definitely get that with him. Sorry Rob for not writing this sooner. We contacted Rob last year prior to going to a Padres game and boy were we lucky to have him. For starters, our whole group were able to travel together in his van. Then, got us down to Petco real fast using a shortcut downtown. Most drivers would use freeways and take much longer. After the game, we contacted Taxi Rob and he was real great about finding us downtown, not to mention dealing with our annoying drunk selves. Highly recommended. Rob is fantastic. My partner and I were visiting SD from Portland, staying in PB. We wanted to go to Hillcrest for a little fun Friday night and checked Yelp! for taxis. Rob's reviews appealed the most--and were spot on, as it turns out. Darkly funny, wickedly smart, cool guy. VERY reasonable rates for a no frills/extremely efficient service. There's something really cool about his service, too... Like private driver cool. He drove us to and from our night out and we were very satisfied. Taxi Rob is awesome. I'll admit that his van may not be the classiest vehicle you could be shuttled around in, but he's always been on time, and always been nice & driven carefully. I've used him a handful of times, and have never run into a time that he's not available. Once, he couldn't come and get us, so he sent his associate who was also on time and nice enough. Definitely recommend him for getting around town when you need a ride. Price is super reasonable, too. read more

Taxi Rob is great for a variety of reasons, listed in many of the other reviews here. However, two things stand out to me at the moment: 1. Despite my having only used his services on three occasions, weeks apart, he still remembered where I lived and got me home without my having to detail the address/directions. 2. This was particularly useful during my last ride, when I was quite intoxicated. Rob is awesome for putting up with my incoherent drunken babbling and humoring me as I attempted to make idiotic conversation with him and my companion. He was able to pick me up within five minutes of my calling him, got me home quickly and safely (allowing me to avoid a possible DUI), and the ride was a bargain to boot. read more

Our experience with Taxi Rob was fine. One reviewer called his brown Astro van "ghetto which concerned me. He picked us up at 5:30am to go to the airport in a nicely warmed, comfy van that was in no way what I would at all call "ghetto". He loaded up our luggage, drove in a safe manner and never used his cell phone while driving. I hadn't mentioned him picking us up on our return to San Diego until we arrived at the airport as I wanted to make sure everything was on the up and up. He came for us when we arrived back in San Diego. He called us as our plane touched down to say he was very close by. As we exited the terminal with our luggage we could see Rob pulling up at the same time. The service is top notch and Taxi Rob himself is quite a nice guy. read more

I needed a ride to the airport on a Saturday morning at 10 am for a 12 pm flight to the east coast and called Rob on Friday morning due to his good ratings, I called him on Saturday at 9am to verify and he said he could not make it today. He gave me a number to call his friend who has a cab, I got some girls answering machine. That sucks!!!!!!!!! Don't call Rob if you need a ride!! TAXI ROB IS THE BEST! If you want something classy and upscale, this is not for you. But if you are looking for a cheap way to transport you a big group of friends, then ROB IS THE WAY TO GO! He is on time, to the point, and doesn't bullshit. It's pretty much a flat rate which is nice (unlike Taxi's, Uber, etc.). He is also a safe driver and deals with drunks pretty well. It sounds to me like a lot of the negative reviews (almost all from girls) sound more like spurned lovers rather than customers looking for a safe and cheap ride home. When you call Taxi Rob, you're not getting a BFF or a shrink or someone who wants to hear your stupid drama... you're getting a ride. When you call TR, he answers if he's working and he's short with you...because he's usually DRIVING. He's honest about his pickup times and will tell you if you should call someone else because he's committed to too many fares.
