Years ago, I opened an account at Bank of America's branch in Hewlett, NY. I haven't used it much,…read morebut the account was still there--or so I thought. After months of not getting any statements at all, I got a statement in the mail noting the account had been closed. Not only that, it was closed with a negative balance of about $28 dollars. Why? Because month after month after month, the bank had been deducting a fee I didn't even know they were charging me. When I called BOA's 800 number a few days after receiving the statement, they said nothing could be done because fees are fees and it was so many weeks after the account had been closed. (Then why did it take two months for me to receive a statement???) So I figured, no harm in visiting the local branch in a last-ditch effort to get back some of the money that was quietly, in a corporate way, stolen from me. One of the tellers was friendly and tried to be helpful but basically just updated a lot of old information on my now-closed account (which took about 15 minutes). Then, since I was in a hurry to get to work, she got a supervisor to look at the account. She answered my question super-quick: there's nothing we can do because the account was closed too long ago. I should have visited sooner. Well, perhaps I would have, if BOA had sent me a statement in time! The upshot it: Laurel and Hardy wasted 20 minutes of my life to tell me nothing, update information on an account that doesn't exist, and with crocodile smiles tell me, "you have a good day!" Blood boiling, I replied, "You don't," and left. Score another for the banksters.

I left Bank of America sometime last year, the only reason I chose to leave them was simply because…read moreI no longer wanted to use a corporate big bank. When I lived here I woke up one morning on one of my days off from work, my little brother had slept over my apartment. He was 17 and didn't have a checking account yet, so I took him with me to Bank of America to get a checking account. When he was getting his account I decided to open one too and leave TD bank. I didn't even have a license at the time and the closest TD bank was a 2 mile bike ride from my apartment so I decided to use Bank of America because I could walk to them. They also had more ATMs and more locations. Our bank clerk Valerie was so helpful to my brother and I. She was even more helpful when I had broken up with my ex-boyfriend. He had access to my checking account, since we were broken up I no longer wanted him to be able to use my account. Valerie helped me change the account to a new number, and she gave me a new debit card with my photo on it so only I could use it. I was also a victim of identity theft. I didn't have too much money that was able to be taken from my account but they refunded me the lost money right away. They also did some security checks when they thought some charges that were made in NYC weren't from me even though they were.

She took her time looking into our cards to ensure there was no issue and everything seems to be fine. She provided further action to report in case we have trouble at the ATM again. I feel the efforts were genuine and I hopefully will have no further issues. ATM has never worked anytime I've gone here. Went in branch to send a wire transfer after making an appt with customer service over the phone. I walk in at scheduled time, there is one teller at desk who would have helped 2 people online before me but that's not what I needed. There were girls chit chatting in the back about vacation! Anyway; the personal banker who had his face dug "in ppw" I started to inch over and he finally says after 6 mins you can come over here. We did the wire - IT WAS SENT WRONG. So not only did I waste my whole lunch break coming here, I now had to waste the rest of my afternoon calling and holding for wire dept. I changed my phone number early Feb and he let my husband and I know that once we complete it with him - we will be able to do them ourselves online. Nope. We have to wait 90 to do that transaction which is also extremely inconvenient since I wire once a week if not more now into my stock trade acct. Deposited my retirement fund check which is guaranteed funds into checking and wanted to do a wire and I was refused. First had to wait 2 days to "clear." Fine. I call back after 2 days and they now state I have to wait 7 ADDITIONAL days because that's security they have in place???? What? So I said can I go to the bank and withdrawal cash or make a cashiers check? The answer was yes. I asked the rep to explain to me what the difference was, she couldn't. Supervisors are abs useless as well lol. Once my tax return hits my acct, good riddance! Very disappointed since this is a bank at work acct and the guy who helped me open was fantastic.

They have an excuse for everything and continuous misinformation. If I listened to them, I would've incurred penalties and charges. The manager is ineffective and dismissive.
