Tens of billions of dollars worth. Or so they say. The building looks like a fortress but it was modeled after the palaces of Italian Renaissance bankers, particularly the Medici, to make it look important, intimidating, and secure. Between that and the "Federal Reserve Police" stationed outside (Are they federal? Are they state? To what branch of government do they report?), it's definitely imposing. I'm sure me walking by with a backpack and taking pictures was noted. At the time of the visit, you'll want to look for a kiosk rather than any storefront, like there used to be in some past photos. The exchange rate was a bit expensive and you'd expect it to be not as good compared to getting the exchange in a local country, but at least it's convenient and readily available. This kiosk is nice to have if you're traveling soon and can't wait for your bank to get your currency cash in, but be sure to check that they have the currency you're looking for before showing up. The process of the exchange was smooth and hassle free otherwise, and it's convenient to use if you don't want to go down to Philadelphia.

Terrible customer service today. All I was trying to do was purchase something from their travel…read moresection and they acted like it was too much trouble to take my money. First of all, the check in clerk (a fill-in during a lunch break) was helping the man in front of me. It took forever, and it was obvious that she was going out of her way to find information that he should have brought with him. That in itself was not the problem, though. I can wait my turn. While I was waiting, though, a man walked in and instead of getting in line behind me, walked right over to one of the windows. Apparently, he didn't have his card, but the clerk, who saw that he hadn't even checked in, told him to come over, he'd help him. Then, when the man in front of me was finally finished, I moved up. When I told the clerk what I wanted, her expression and body language made it perfectly clear that she didn't want to process my purchase. Just then another customer entered and she immediately told me I had to wait so she could check in the person behind me because "this will take awhile." REALLY? I just stood there and waited while she helped the man in front of me and another man bypassed check-in entirely, and she doesn't want to make another customer wait while she rings up my purchase??? Unbelievable. Then the regular clerk returned, the fill-in said "oh you're back" and walked away without a word to me and without telling the other clerk what I was waiting for. I've been a Central Penn AAA customer for many years and have never been treated so rudely.

When I see reviews being extremely critical of a place that has always seemed great to me, i'm sad that they only gave them one chance. if I encountered a rude person I would either assume they were busy, or I'd just brush it off as that person, and not blame the whole companyunless every time I went in there I encountered that person being rude. but, they have always been polite and helpful in my experience over 30-some years. But of course, I don't know the situation so maybe they did encounter one or two people that didn't answer as kindly as they would have liked. The other day I had to call them for roadside service and I was in a hurry and told the dispatcher. I didn't really think it would help because usually most people would say they were in a hurry and probably are, but I was pleasantly surprised at how hard the tow truck driver tried to reach me quickly. It took longer than I expected and he expected, but he got stuck in traffic where a road was unexpectedly closed. I so much appreciated that he kept in touch with me, to let me know why. And I could tell he was frustrated that he couldn't get to me as quickly as he wanted to. So I knew he was trying. This experience was very positive for me, despite the fact that it took a while. But that wasn't the fault of AAA or the tow truck driver. The dispatcher at AAA went out of her way to make my experience a good one.
