Casablanca iced tea + lavender blueberry scone
    Kelly T.

I was exploring Byward Market and stumbled across this quaint tea store with a sizeable tea selection. I got a tea and scone combo (~$8 after tax) after I found out the scone was lavender + blueberry and came with cream and strawberry jam! For teas, they had several green/black/herbal options, the Casablanca was a light fruity hibiscus tea which was perfect for a hot summer day. I noticed that there were options to get tea for a group 2, 3, 4 which seemed to be slightly cheaper so I can see this as being a good spot to catch up with friends. The warm scone had a light lavender flavour with mainly blueberry chunks and even though my cream quickly melted when I moved onto the patio (limited patio space by the way), I really enjoyed my experience. If you enjoy tea, this is definitely a very cute spot.

I stopped in here while I was looking for souvenirs to bring home from Ottawa while in Byward Market. This store has so many different types of tea. If I lived in Ottawa, this would definitely be the place I'd go for loose leaf tea. The staff was really chill and pleasant to talk with. I got some Inuit cloudberry tea and ice wine tea to bring home and try out. For the walk back to the hotel, I got a tasty chai latte which was perfect to warm up a bit with all the snow outside.

With over 200 varieties of tea, The Tea Store is probably the biggest provider of tea in Ottawa. They definitely have the most creative combination of teas and herbs, which can sometimes yield surprisingly good results...other times, not so good. The quality of their tea is highly satisfactory and it's almost impossible to not find what you're looking for. They also carry a variety of high quality bagged tea and tea accessories. The Tea Store is somewhat cluttered since it's a store and a cafe, but I still enjoy coming here for tea and dessert, even if it means getting bumped into once or twice while I eat. They also serve a few lunch items too. The staff is consistently attentive and the prices are moderate ($7.25-$8.50 per 100g).

Cute little place that can be overlooked (placed in the middle of the market but next to random stores). Love the whole concept of being able to sit and enjoy a pot of tea and scones with others. The scones are served with whipped cream, jam, and butter. Delicious. Reasonable prices, and hundreds of different tea selections to chose from. I would recommend the blooming tea if you want something light, also pretty to look at. Great to catch up on a book or to get some work done. Bringing your laptop is okay. Huge glass windows, which allows a good view of the market, and people watching if you're feeling creepy.

This is such as awesome tea shop in the heart of the Byward Market. There are so many choices of loose tea to purchase and they have several tables to sit and enjoy a cup, as well. I enjoyed a nice cup of tea and a delicious, hot out of the oven, blueberry vanilla scone. The staff was so helpful and friendly. If I was a local, I'd be here all the time!!

So many options of different types of tea! There is a row of seats if you care to enjoy a good tea brewed for you. I choose my a coconut chai latte made with almond milk. It was strong but tasty. I love that you have the option to open the jars to smell it before buying.

A really cool place with a big variety of tea! They have a whole lose leaf tea wall with any flavor of tea you could ever imagine. Also they have loose leaf tea travel mugs and pots. The staff is helpful in telling you about the different teas. I had the spicy chili chocolate.

Their milk tea has a potent tea flavour and they use whole milk, so it's very rich and creamy. Their soft opening was June 27, 2024. They will have their grand opening in July. During their soft opening, which is when I went, they only had their 10 top selling drinks available and no soft serve ice cream. Unfortunately for me, during their soft opening they didn't have any discounts/promotions and everything was just regular priced, lol. I went with their classic Brown Sugar Pearl Milk Tea. I got the regular size ($6.50) with less ice. The sugar level is fixed. They said they could make it less sweet by giving me less pearls, lol. No thanks, I love pearls, haha. So I got the standard sweetness. The pearls were delicious! So soft and chewy. The tea had a strong tea flavour and since they use homogenized milk, it was so rich and creamy, almost too much so for my tastes, lol. Staff were very welcoming and they were so enthusiastic. There's some seating inside and a few patio tables outside too. The store is bright and clean. Xing Fu Tang is known for their fortune boxes. They're like fortune cookies, but no cookie, haha. You choose a stick from the container of sticks. And there's a number on the stick which corresponds with a numbered drawer. In the drawer is a fortune. I was in a bit of a hurry, so I skipped the fun ;) I'll need to return to try their soft serve ice cream. And they have this mango smoothie drink with strawberry boba and a panna cotta bunny on top, which I want to try too. And they have drinks with real taro, so I'll need to take my taro-loving mom here too. They are in Old Ottawa East. Street parking only. (93)

It was so sweet that she remembered that I am a sparkling drink fan. I walked over to my car and opened my Uber Eats app on my phone. Yep, I saw the BOGO deal and immediately added it. I also needed to fetch dinner. It was great that Tealive had egg sandwiches called toasteas. Such a cute name! I got a hash brown and egg toastea. My order was perfect, as I was more thirsty than hungry. One-stop shopping is also extremely convenient! My friend said to head east along Richmond Road that becomes Somerset Street West and keep on driving till I saw this place in Chinatown. It was the easiest set of directions for this tourist. Tealive is by the arch in Chinatown. I turned left into a parking lot. It generally is one that you have to pay. However, I had arrived after the pay-up parking period, so I parked for free and walked over. This store has a single step to get in and out of the store. It may be an accessibility issue to some folks. It's a deep store. There were plenty of places to sit down and enjoy dining in. I went to the back third of the store. There's a counter on the left for pickup orders. I had a nice man helping me. I showed him my Uber Eats order. He fetched my paper bag with my order. I thanked him and happily headed to my car. I safely secured my order in my car and then drove back to my hotel room to enjoy my food and drinks. Toronto has similar places that sell egg sandwiches. What they lack is offering bubble tea. This place has everything that I love, especially with sparkling tea. The hash brown and egg toastea was incredible! The egg was in omelette form. It wasn't overdone. It was fluffy and enjoyable. You also get a rectangular hash brown. I loved how crispy it was on the outside. It was seasoned nicely and was perfect. Perhaps to make you feel like you're eating something healthy, it had a tomato slice and romaine lettuce. They were fresh and complimented the hash brown and egg perfectly. The bread was toasted. You saw horizontal marks on the bread, which made me think that they use a sandwich press of some sort. The bread provided the perfect crunch, while still being soft. It held the entire sandwich together without wearing what you were eating. The toasted bread sets this toastea egg sandwich apart from similar egg sandwiches in the GTA. Here, you get a lot of bread that isn't toasted to the same extent. It's also so dry that you end up consuming a bunch of fluid to wash it down. My sandwich came with a couple of sauces. You can certainly enjoy the sandwich without them. One was cheese. The other one was a cross between mayo and tartar. They were perfect with the sandwich. The toastea tastes better with them. I was so thirst after having consumed a ton of sodium at lunch that I actually had both 3Q sparkling mango green teas that evening. It was a first for me. I normally have one immediately and the other the following day. Both drinks had no sugar and half ice. I didn't have the option to go less ice, but it didn't matter all that much. It was such a hot day that half ice sounded inviting! The drinks were divine. I loved the carbonation in them. Bubbles rule! They feel fancy when you drink them. Sparkling drinks are more enjoyable if the option is there. The 3Q toppings were pearls, coconut jelly, and sago. They were the perfect trifecta in these drinks. You got chewiness, a bit of sweetness, and different textures to devour while sipping on the perfect combination of mango flavour with perfectly brewed green tea. I loved this place so much that on my final full day in Ottawa, I ordered takeout from Tealive again for dinner. My order was the same, except that I tossed in Japanese strawberry shortcake. It did feel like a carbon copy of my visit. Even my order the second time felt like my first visit. The same sandwich and sparking bubble teas were yummy and consistent. I was impressed. The Japanese strawberry shortcake was delicious. It was the perfect portion, with layers of cake, whipped cream, and strawberry puree. I am normally not a huge fan of whipped cream, but I enjoyed how subtle it was. The strawberry flavour was spot on. I loved that it tasted like real strawberries. The strawberry slice on top was a nice touch. The cake was moist and fluffy. This dessert hit the spot. My sweet tooth was happy. This place was awesome! I long to return to try more toasteas, drinks, and desserts. This place had macarons. I'll need to get some next time. Toronto and its surrounding area need at least one Tealive. Please come here! I am thrilled that I can return here for excellent food and bubble teas. I just need to do another vacation. (304)
