LOVED this quaint coffee shop/cafe. It's a small place with tables and a bar to sit at and enjoy all the good things. The cortado I had was incredible. I loved how perfectly hot it was and not too much milk overload. There was an exceptional selection of beverages from the sweet to the black. The sandwiches were fantastic too. I indulged in a grilled cheese that was out of this world. Perfectly crunchy on rye and it contained provolone and cheddar and apples. It was perfect. Then my husband enjoyed a roasted chicken sandwich. This was also very well done, it was pulled out of the fridge and handed to me, so this was super quick, easy, and healthy. Great breads too. Quaint, cute coffee shop where you can get all your caffeination needs. If you really need your coffee fix, ask for a depth charge, which is the equivalent of a black eye coffee drink (think Americano, but instead of espresso & water, it's two shots of espresso and coffee). I find this is a solid place to work/study since it never gets super loud. If you need a snack their grilled cheese sandwich is oozy, gooey, and crispy. Their warmed scones with plenty of butter are a treat too (but well, most things are a treat with a healthy dollop of butter). read more

I ordered an espresso, it had really beautiful crema and I really enjoyed it. I usually grab a cup of coffee before I head to work! This coffee shop is a hidden gem. They roast their own beans in house and it smells amazing! They also serve lunch, pastries, and snacks if you are feeling a little peckish. My go to drinks are their Americanos (very rich and not acidic) and their iced almond vanilla latte. There is sometimes a during peak hours but it is worth the wait. There is also seating area if you plan on having meetings or would like to study. read more

I only ever get coffee here, but the baristas are fabulous, a true neighborhood coffee shop with plenty of regular customers. Their COVID precautions have a one way flow through the café and only one person allowed at the cash at a time. They serve Happy Goat Coffee with a QR code punch card system. read more

I love this spot! They have a very cool vibe, from the unique mugs, to the elderflower beverages (which are rare and delicious), to their yummy cookies! The staff are super nice, and they help explain all their drinks. We came here on a hot day and their iced lattes are amazing. One thing I particularly loved was their coffee iced cubes! I Deal Coffee is VERY good. Definitely some of the best stuff Ottawa has to offer. However, I'm holding it to the same standard which I would any city that may hold WAY more indie coffee shops. The atmosphere is unintentionally old fashioned and a bit rustic. The booths have clearly spent their share of time there, for example. There's a lot of space for patrons though and even a cute patio for summer, facing onto Bruyere Street. The work space for doling out the coffee is pretty small but they certainly can do the job well back there! When you order coffee, they ask if you want light or dark roast. I like the coffee a lot and you can just take it to the other side of the counter for some delicious, free accompaniments like gorgeous raw sugar, soy milk and all the other standard fixings. I'm also a fan of the latte, with a little chocolate powder on top and my cranberry scone was yummy! They give you two packages of butter and knife with it, shame the butter was quite hard/frozen. Service, I've found, is not particularly warm. It's efficient, they know what questions to ask you to get it right but it's not very chatty at all. Actually once after I had looked at my bill for a scone and latte, I commented on how good the prices were (about $5.50 for both, tax in). The baristas response? "Yeah, we make it affordable so people will tip us" I already hadn't tipped......... Awkward. I'm sorry, I was paying with a credit card and didn't have change! Anyways, I'll still be going back. They have a solid product which I enjoy. Check out the back by the washroom to see where they keep the beans and weigh them! Also, if you buy a pound, you get a free cup of coffee! read more

This little out-of-the-way coffee shop has great coffee, both brewed and espresso, and some pretty tasty pastries, baked in-house or purchased from local bakeries, as well. There's nothing fancy about the place - there's a roaster and burlap bags of beans taking up a lot of the floor space, which is cool, but the tables and chairs are very bare-bones. This place is run by total hippies (I say it with love) so don't expect them to be open early (no matter how badly you need a coffee) and they close early, too. Both seem to be an Ottawa coffee house trend. While this is some of the best coffee you can get in Ottawa, it's sort of a shame they don't do more with it. read more

OMG don't miss this place for coffee and a fabulous breakfast sandwich ($4.99) on the weekdays good lunches. On the weekends we had an excellent spinach asparagus pesto frittata with great sourdough toast and a lovely salad. As good as the coffee and food is, the staff are even better! In my opinion, they make the best-tasting espresso in the Ottawa Byward Market area, and that is saying a lot. Luciano is the on-site friendly master roaster at I Deal Coffee, and he comes from Minas Gerais which is the largest coffee-growing state in Brazil. From the outside, it is not the shee-shee frufru prentiousness of a coffee shop trap. It's a reminiscent of 1960s coffee house in New York or Philadelphia. The expected pile of movie house monthly papers, two bookcases with reading material, and a vintage PacMan game table... Visual distractions while waiting. The espresso machine shoots steam through the fine powder, and the rich, dark liquor of coffee fills the cup almost to the brim. This place is one of my favourite finds anywhere, in a long time. Friendly staff (who know many regulars by name and their order), delicious breakfast served even on weekdays, plugs for working on your laptop, ample seating, FRESH pastries (gluten-free options!) and a category of its own: the to-die-for scones. And of course the coffee... a delicious artisanal brew I can't wait to drink again soon. This place is doing everything right to create a community atmosphere.
