After signing my 4 year old son up for the amazing Little Dragons with Sensei Jared and seeing how much fun he was having, I was inspired to look into and take classes myself. I had taken Tae Kwan Do back in college, but it had been quite some time. I met a mother in the class that had started taking classes after similarly being inspired and loved the adult class. Sensei Fariborz and the entire community of Team Karate Centers was so welcoming and supportive. I was concerned about taking a class with so many different skill levels, but Sensei Fariborz created and provided an amazing app that was game changing. It contains all the curriculum and many of the skills taught in the class for self practice. This allows me to work on the skills and techniques needed for my belt independently, and then bring questions for improvement to the class. I feel like the school is seriously embracing the tools available to us today and it's EXTREMELY helpful. I cannot speak enough of the community at the school. As i mentioned before, my 4 year old takes classes there as well, and we are far from being unique. I've met so many families taking classes together. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this center for kids. And they refuse to have basic health and safety protocols to protect children. I was very exciting to have my special needs son start karate but this won't be the place. An owner that says the rules shouldn't apply to him sets a bad example. I have to say, I was a little disappointed with this place. I bought a Groupon for here, the staff is really friendly and some of the instructors are great. But overall I'm not a fan of the fact that they combined the kids with the adults in the same class. Also, they don't have any classes on Fridays I didn't sign up for a membership. But I have a feeling this is great for kids. It's just not very focused and all over the place. I wish there were clearer lines from style to style, from technique to technique and for the age range of classes. read more

So it's been nearly ten years since my children became members of the Team Karate Centers family. Wow! Time has really flown by. They have learned so much from so many wonderful people there. I should know this because I have been training under Master Fariborz at this facility, since 1987, when I was only 7 years old. Everything I have learned from the martial arts, I have been able to use in my daily life. It is not only learning self-defense, but life skills that lead to a certain way of life. I looked this place up on Yelp and am floored they do not have more reviews. Many many more reviews. My daughter trained here for some time. This place is big, very big. It's very kid friendly. Maybe more so then places I'm accustomed to. But make no mistake, this place has a lot of very high level fighters/instructors, many whom I know or know of. The owner Is Fariborz. Fariborz trained under Steve Sexton a personal friend of mine. Steve Sexton is a living legend in the San Fernando Valley. He even has a book written about him from his bar room brawling days. Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, any of you know who he is? Well he teaches her as well. Pete "Sugerfoot" Cunningham? He's here as well. This place has the best of the best here. Not just Hapkido guys, but professional champion kick boxers. They teach ground fighting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu too which is my style. They take from all styles rather then just study and teach one style. If you live in the San Fernando Valley I highly recommend this place. If you have kids then I give this place a 6 star rating. We just enrolled our 13 yr old daughter for classes here and I had no idea about the history of this place and the famous dedicated teachers here such as Steve Sexton and Benny "The Jet" to name a few. But most of all the teachers really care about the students and teach more than just martial arts, it is respect, confidence, etc. they really care and take the time to one on one train. I had originally signed up to learn karate and achieve a black belt however, I left with knowledge and friendships that have changed my life. Both of my kids went to TKC for 4 years till they received their first Black Belt. They were both elementary schooler & now teens. For four years both of my kids eat their dinner , finish home work assignments at TKC right after school before starting their karate classes till late evening. This place is amazing! My 3.5 year old son is very anxious and doesn't like participating in sports or activities with strangers. (Runs away, cries, etc). We took him in for a trial and Mr. Ryan was amazingly calm and patient and worked with my son to make sure he was comfortable! My son is actually excited to go back!! I have been a student of Master Fariborz's since I was six. I am now 28. In the 2 decades i've spent there I have learned so much. We first learned traditional hapkido techniques (including throws, falls, and joint locks). Over time Master Fariborz blended in grappling and kickboxing techniques leading to Hapkido Blend. Over my time I have had unique opportunities to train with some world champion wrestlers, boxers, grapplers and kickboxing. Currently advance students have the ability to train with Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, a childhood role model of mine! More important than the physical aspect of the Martial Arts, Master Fariborz emphasizes the mental and spiritual needs. This is what makes Team Karate Centers and Martial Arts as a whole so powerful: when you can be mentally and spiritually ready for something physical--be it a sparring match, or a long exam for your next belt--you will be ready to face any challenge in life. Two of the greatest things I have taken from my time at TKC is to be Goal Oriented and Focused. Being Goal Oriented doesn't just mean knowing what you want, but being able to plan out what's needed to reach that goal. I recently started training here at Team Karate Centers and it has been a wonderful experience. The teachers and classes are top notch and the students are all so friendly and helpful. I love the idea of "Hapkido blend" where they incorporate a combination of techniques and principles from a variety of Martial Arts styles, including Hapkido, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do, Kali, Kobudo, Wing Chun and weapons, all of which provide me with a well-balanced, "streetsmart" self-defense style.
