I have been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Tekniques for about 6 months now. The gym is very, very…read moredifferent than most Jiu Jitsu training facilities you will come across. The first thing I noticed when I visited was the sheer size of the place. The Jiu Jitsu area is downright gigantic! Other BJJ gyms I have visited are lucky to have 1/4 the mat space of Tekniques. The BJJ area is stocked with high quality Zebra tatmi mats, has comfortable seating, and is separated from the rest of the gym. This allows for a quiet, focused learning environment during BJJ training. The other portion of the gym contains a large tatami mat area for what Tekniques calls HIT (High Intensity Training). This class is similar to crossfit but without the hype. This area also contains a sizable Muay Thai kickboxing training area with heavy bags and appropriate mats. Other amenities include clean restrooms/changing areas and a kids' play room with a TV. Instruction at Tekniques is top notch. The adult BJJ classes are large enough to be diverse but small enough so that each person gets individual time with the instructors. Belt diversity is good - I am a white belt and am able to roll with white, blue, and purple belt practitioners every time I train. The more advanced students are more than willing to pause, answer questions, and take time to make sure you are learning the art. There are opportunities for competition, and the instructors assist students in preparing for numerous Jiu Jitsu tournaments in the area. I have a 6 year old son in the kids' BJJ program. I couldn't be more pleased. There are a LOT of kids training at Tekniques, but never so many that it's out of control. There is an appropriate student to instructor ratio. Perhaps most important (and impressive) is the care given to the safety of the students. For example, whenever the kids are training live submissions such as arm bars, the instructors are within 6 inches of the students, ready to pounce and intervene so that the student being submitted is not injured. I am very comfortable with the level of attention and safety given to my child and the other children who train there. The kids also compete in local tournaments and IBJJF sanctioned tournaments with great success. Muay Thai and HIT training is intense. The instructor is encouraging, careful, and drives the students hard. He takes time to explain the movements and exercises and will work individually with students who are having troubles. He instills a sense of teamwork, competition, and comradery in his students. Coupled with the Jiu Jitsu training, the Muay Thai and HIT classes will whip you into shape in a hurry. If you are nearby and are looking for a fun, inviting atmosphere in which to train Jiu Jitsu, HIT, or Muay Thai, then Tekniques is the place. I can't speak highly enough of the staff, my fellow students, and the environment.

My snatches and deadlifts were janky AF before going here. The Performance Fitness class he teaches are similar to Crossfit. They consists of a combination of weights and high intensity interval training exercises. Richard's Kickboxing classes are also great and he teaches us different techniques frequently. They do not have any tennis courts as they were taken out to increase parking spots, but they do have a nice multipurpose trail for those who like to bike. In total, the trail is about 10K if you do an entire loop on both sides. Overall, if you live nearby, this is a great park. She gave me a blank stare and then said oh you mean 2 race. Ok. Rude. But ok yeah that. She proceeds to ask the boys had they ever been there before. 1 of my sons friends says yes. So she goes you need to go check him on the computer with a waiver first because he has a membership so you won't pay for that part for him. Here I am thinking oh she is being helpful after being wrong. I smile. We go to computers do the waiver for 1 boy as instructed. We go back to the counter now 2 more groups have come in. We have to wait behind 1 group now since there is only one cashier/check in person although there were at least 5 other staff in the building including a manager. Anyway after we wait for that group to check in. I step back to the counter and THEN she proceeds to tell me oh you didn't do the waiver for the other two. I'm like you told me to do it only for the one that had been here before. So again we step out of line and go BACK to the computers. At this time I'm starting to get annoyed. By this time more people are coming in, so now my boys will have to wait behind several big groups when we arrived before ALL of these people. When I finally get back to the counter.....all boys are checked in. She got RUDE again. And wanted to loudly explain pricing to me and make sure I knew that the boys only got a $10 game card for what I was about to pay. Like VERY loud. I didn't hear her do this with any of the other groups that checked in before us and I hate to say this.......none of them were my complexion. Never once was I rude or matching her volume or tone. We actually walked in that place happy because we were supposed to be celebrating. Well anyway it didn't stop there. Once we got checked no instructions were given on what to do next outside of the girl at the counter giving me my receipt and their game cards. So my boys walked over to where you line up to go on the track and yet another employee was RUDE to them by telling them to back away from the gate and wait for someone to call them. They are EXCITED to be here Jeesh, so then after she yells at them they come over to me saying they not going to let her ruin the joy. They finally get called to race and all the boys are overwhelmed after the employees stopped the cars several time or slowed their speed down all during the race. Then in between their first and second race we went to their "arcade" which only has 12 games......which none of them are less than 40 credits for 1 game. $10 gets you 200 in credits. While one of the boys was in the process of playing a game they got called back for their 2nd race. It was EVEN worse than the first one. We decided to opt out of trying their food and went somewhere else to grab lunch. 0 stars would not recommend.

We played several different games like wheel of fortune, family feud, and price is right. We had so much fun. After the games we returned into the first room and had food. The main trail located near the playground loops around making it .5 miles, but if you take the stairs up to the field there is another.5 miles of paved track. Also off of the main trail near the backside soccer fields is a walk way that takes you pass the parking lot and the trail continues around. All in all it is a nice park with friendly people. There are no steep hills or rocky areas making this trail an easy walk/run. The park is also equipped with soccer fields, a basketball court and small playground. My dog loved the walk and getting to meet other friendly dogs, however there is not a separate dog area or any big open spaces ( besides for the gated soccer field)

His mission is clear: Making training accessible for everyone in the community despite age, size, and experience. He has seen it all first hand. Injuries, championship medals, multi fight one night tournaments, bloodshed, cage fights, you name it. Through it all his passion remained. I began my jiu jitsu journey May of 2016 under Professor Maajid and it was hands down one of the best decisions of my life. He helped me to understand the cerebral and unconscious aspect of the art early on. Of course I didn't retain 97% of what he taught but he stuck with me until I began to retain the info. I earned my blue belt under him in May of 2017. It gave me a new confidence. Yes, I've been a victim of bullying for many years in the past because of my size. A staggering 5'5 160lbs doesn't necessarily scream "Come at me bro!". That fear of being picked on by the drunk guy in the bar or the big dude walking around looking for a fight is no longer there. I can't beat everyone by any means but I can finally hold my own in the face of an altercation but I've learned to try to avoid them at all cost through his teachings. He helped me grow and practice a healthier lifestyle. His patience is unmatched and his ability to help you create your own tactics on the mat is top notch. He has stuck with me through the periods I was not able to train and all. Whether you're a 6 year old girl, 19 year old transgender or a 50 year old man, Professor Majiid welcomes each and every one of you to Mongoose Jiu Jitsu with open arms and a loving heart. I've watched the kids dog pile on him after a tough Saturday morning class simply because they have so much fun learning the art. He is a true inspiration not only as a professor but as a leader. This is a great place!! Awesome management. I love bringing my kids here with coach Justin and professor Maajid they are amazing.The instructors are patient, friendly, and knowledgeable. Everyday theres something new that they learn.Yes, of course they learn how to defend themselves, gain confidence and get in shape, but the progressive nature of working towards the next stripe makes it unique and makes them work hard to earn it. This is a great place to go if you really want to lose weight and still be able to eat what you want. My co-workers and I joined the gym in June and all of us have already lost close to 15 lbs! The instructors are very encouraging and will push you to your limits. I always leave feeling empowered and proud of myself and what I have accomplished. They have an incredible judo program twice a week as well. I am not a member of this academy but I pop in occasionally and pay their mat fee. Every time I would bring him it felt like I was torturing him because he had legit fear and I could see it in his eyes. When I said I was canceling his they said they understood and it was fine but then continued to charge me. Master Miron said he would reimburse and make sure it was canceled but never did. Then my oldest wanted to stop because his brother wasn't doing it with him and I wasn't about to force a 4 year old to do something he truly didn't want to do. When I told them I wanted to cancel both o was suddenly told "oh, you actually signed the 12 month agreement and are obligated to pay for the whole year." EXCUSE ME?! they have my signature on a piece of paper that I was falsely informed of while they took advantage of me having an 18 month old with me as well, always busy and never able to sit and talk about any contract. Never in a million years would I sign a 3 and 4 year old up for a 12 month contracted class. THEY ARE THE WORST. ONLY SEND YOUR ENEMIES HERE.

The instructors are extremely good with him and are patient in teaching but also good at maintaining and teaching self discipline. We have seen big improvements in his attitude and respect of others. He looks forward to every class and always wants to attend the additional opportunities as they are offered. Their after-school program adds an additional layer of opportunities and instruction. He is learning the value of working towards a goal.

Master Kim and the other instructors are great with her, not only teaching her martial arts, but respect and discipline which has carried over to her behavior at home. I started taking lessons myself nearly 6 months ago as a way to work out and relieve stress. I have more energy than I have in years, my strength and flexibility have improved tremendously and I really enjoy taking classes here. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else!

I have a child that has been attending martial arts classes at Umas (United Martial Arts Systems)…read moreand its a good fit. I'm reviewing this based on the younger 5-8 age group Little Dragons and Junior Ninjas, but not teens or adult age groups. And I won't be commenting about competitive sparring & tournaments because this hasn't been an option yet. I don't know the actual martial arts style, but I assume it is Japanese based (not Chinese Gung Fu, Korean Tae Kwon Do, or Filipino Kali). The atmosphere for this school is friendly & nurturing. This is not a school that teaches students to be hostile & aggressive, nor is this the method they teach. Students are taught to use self control and be respectful to the instructors, each other, and the people in their lives (e.g. parents & family, teachers & schoolmates, etc.). The main instructor is Mr. Miles. He and the other instructors are dedicated and well experienced. The lessons teach students to give it their all in class and if something doesn't go their way to keep trying. The great thing here is Mr. Miles applies this to real life by having students continue this mindset at at home & in school. Umas is a great place for your youngsters to work on self discipline, work on self control, & teaches mastering something is not the end but continues on.

The amount of time the children spends…read morein class is too short not only that I recently switched jobs and my hours have changed so I'm unable to take my child to practice anymore and it's just me, a single parent. I was told to email management about my situation just to be told no. I contact management again and explained everything and the only way to cancel would be if I moved 25 miles away or of a disability. I'm so pissed because things happen all the time unexpectedly and I definitely wasn't expecting to change jobs and I'm willing to show proof of new employment but no one is trying to hear what I have to say. They're only concerned with getting payments. If I wouldn't known that when I first inquired about the lessons, I WOULD'VE NEVER SIGNED UP because things happen. This program is not for parents who don' have helping hands to help with taking the child to practice.
