i've gone to several eye doctors in the past to get may annual eye exam. I chose this place for this year because of my work schedules. Others were pretty booked with 5:30PM due to high demands. Dr. Mallory Lynch performed examination. I see reviews saying she's fast but in my perspective, she was being careless. She made statements that made me uncomfortable. She might sound friendly but what i personally felt was she tried to be smart. Overall, i would not really go back again and would strongly not recommend this place to others. read more

I'd been going to tech ridge for years. The first exchange I had on the phone was w a very rude front staff person who I later came to meet in person and decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. Over the years it just got worse. Not w front desk staff but next the optometrist. Malory Lynch is a very odd woman. As other reviews have mentioned she comes off w a smart mouth. What finally drove me away as a customer was her providing the wrong Rx for my lenses only to blame me and confront me w it when I last visited explaining of headaches. Smarting off during my exam while we were alone saying "you asked for that Rx I provided". SHE told me I needed an Rx of .25 greater but had forgotten what she had prescribed the year before. Warby Parker helped me prove what she had provided the year before to prove SHE was the one who made the mistake and she grew irritate following my next visit. Refusing to take any responsibility. Otherwise she makes odd comments and snickers to herself during the exam. She's just weird. I'm posting this review a year later bc I've since been to a different provider at a wonderful new place. Very professional and they gladly provided me the right rx. Finally! Never knew what I was missing but I love the staff. I'll never return to Tech Ridge. They are horrible!! read more

I had my eyes examined for prescription glasses and contact lenses here. My eye doctor and one of the ladies at reception were both incredibly derogatory and rude. Also, the doctor gave me slightly different powers for each eye for my glasses prescription, but made them the same for my contacts. She asked if I wanted to keep both eyes the same and I said yes so I assumed that applied to both prescriptions. Now it hurts my head to switch between glasses and contacts. I won't be going here anymore solely because of the way I was treated from 2/3 of the people I interacted with, but I'm not even happy with the service that was given. read more

I had been seeing Dr. Kitchen for years and he's always been great. I had a small bump on my eyelid and he was able to help remove it and gave great advice and billing was accurate and appropriate. I decided to take my then 5 year old daughter for an exam and was suggested to have her see Dr. Carroll. He was excellent as well. Visited this practice in early 2015 to get my annual vision test and new prescription. The Dr. that saw me put me through many unnecessary tests, and through some of these tests suspected many serious eye diseases. Went to another local practice to get a second opinion and all my worries were laid to rest. Every year it's time for me to get a new contacts prescription and every year I try another doctor's office like Goldilocks trying to right the perfect one. I can honestly say I finally found it. I scheduled my appointment here after the good reviews on Yelp and because they were on my insurance's list of providers. The office is beautiful. More like a spa than an doctor's office. The check-in desk is right at the entrance and the waiting room is walled off behind it. This is super helpful when you get your eyes dilated because you don't have to be stuck waiting in an area where the sun is blinding! They use indirect lighting throughout the office instead of harsh overhead florescent lights which is much better for your eyes. It was cool to see a doctor's office practice what they preach. After the tech took some measurements and got things squared away, I saw Dr. Carroll and was so relived that he did my exam and fitting himself. In the past, I've been to places where the tech would do it and then the optometrist would just come in, take a peek, and leave. Not so at this place. I walked in with a prescription so bad I was regularly getting headaches to leaving with 20/15 vision! Dr. Carroll is really knowledgeable and you can tell he loves what he does. I left with a greater understanding of my eyes, how they work, and exactly why my vision sucks. (Considering I've been wearing glasses for 18 years, I'm surprised I didn't understand any of that sooner!) Also, I've been to places in the past that try to scam you and tell you that your vision plan only covers a "standard" contact lens fitting and that since I have astigmatism it would be an additional charge. Tech Ridge Vision charged me my co-pays and nothing else. Plus, my contacts will arrive in less than a week! My least favorite part of eye exams (and I've had them annually since I was 8), is the big machine that you put your face up against and dread in anticipation the puff of air that tests your eye pressure. No more puffs! Tech Ridge Vision had this handheld doohicky (technical term) that blew a tiny bit of air in my eye and that was it. Gotta love the 21st century. I was referred here by another health care professional. I have had some serious eye problems going on for the last month or so, and I knew I needed to get it checked out immediately, so I called and made a same day appointment. While Tech Ridge Vision was very accommodating in getting me an appointment, and the front desk people were nice, the eye doctor was not. He was very brusque, and got a little mean about wearing my contacts when my eyes were red/watery. I know I shouldn't have done that, but as I explained to him, I didn't have a choice because I needed to drive places and I couldn't have done that in my glasses. He also acted surprised that I didn't have a pair of prescription sunglasses for "times like this." Since this is the only time I've ever had a problem with my eyes, I was surprised that he didn't understand why I wouldn't drop serious money on a prescription pair of sunglasses when I'd never use them. The eye doctor I saw also prescribed me some eye drops, which 3 different pharmacies didn't have. I got my prescription on Friday, and I have to wait for Monday for a pharmacy to order them; apparently they are very new, and no one has them in stock. While I appreciate having an updated drug, the fact that I have to wait 3 days for something while my eyes are burning holes in my head doesn't seem like the best course of action. Overall, the doctor was fairly rude and prescribed me medication that has to be specially ordered. I don't think he's an incompetent doctor, but his bedside manner is terrible. However, the office staff were super nice and friendly, and very accommodating with getting me in for an emergency appointment. Update: Okay, so I went back for a second appointment and the eye doctor was a lot nicer this time, and much more pleasant to be around. He even apologized for harping on not wearing my contacts when my eyes hurt, which made me think he probably read my review! Anyway, he was a lot nicer, and made sure to schedule one more appointment to check up on my eyes again, which I appreciate. Based on the two times I've been there, I'm happy with the quality of care I'm getting from Tech Ridge Vision. The second visit was definitely nicer than the first. read more

My whole family went here a couple of years ago when we first came to Austin and never again. We just wanted updated glasses and contacts prescriptions. They ended up charging my husband over $1,000 for a standard glasses exam and new glasses and my child $700 for new contacts. They billed our medical insurance for our medical condition -- Myopia. Yes, we know. We've had myopia (near-sightedness) for several decades now. What a total rip off. We now go to Dr. Ho at Vision Quest, next to Costco Gateway. She's a no nonsense optometrist who charges $90-$100 per exam. Her glasses and contacts prescriptions work better than Tech Ridge's. read more

Never going back. Dr. Wolf (who is no longer with the practice) was condescending, awkward, and rude when I went in January. I simply made an appointment for an annual checkup to renew my prescription for contacts. But he put me through several unnecessary tests that didn't reveal any new information about my eyes. He pushed me to try several 'new' brands of contacts that he assured me would be better than my current Acuvue Oaysis, but I didn't like any of them. He failed to inspect me in the new prescription before giving it to me (I was sort of relieved not to have to go back). Now I find out that the prescription is not right, after I already ordered and paid for 8 boxes of contacts. They (front office) gave me crap for not reporting this sooner and almost tried to charge me for a re-check, but I refused to pay for their mistake. When I went back in, Dr. Kitchen did the re-check, and not only tried to blame me several times (for things I didn't do), but then gave me a guilt trip about coming in for an exam with 'old' contacts, explaining that this leads to mis-guided diagnoses and incorrect prescriptions. So...in essence, he was telling me it was MY fault that Dr. Wolf changed my prescription, even though the office were to blame for not requiring a re-check before finalizing the numbers. Why can't doctors ever admit they are wrong? Take responsibility! read more

Dr. Carroll is the best doctor I've ever had! He explains things so thoroughly, and at an appropriate level for each and every patient. He makes an effort to get to know his patients and makes me feel like he is treating all of me, not just my eye health. He strives to understand what role vision plays in our lives, from work to leisure time to being outside. He puts our issues in the context of our everyday lives and that helped reassure me I was getting the best care possible. Not to mention the office is beautiful, the staff is very kind and helpful, and it's always very easy to get seen when I need an appointment. I am super impressed with Tech Ridge Vision and Dr. Carroll and recommend this practice to anyone, whether you need routine eye appointments or have more complex issues with your eyes. I've been a patient of Dr. Kitchen for at least 10 years. I receive thoughtful service and his level of care for my vision goes wells beyond the typical eye doctor who just wants to sell you a pair of glasses. He does take his time with you but he is very thorough. I feel like I'm in good hands with Dr. Kitchen. Also, his long time staff are wonderful and treat me like family. I highly recommend! I will not give a one because I don't know that this young man can help the way he acts. He did harp alot on the usage of my.contacts and its the way he comes across that disturbing. He also insisted I call him doctor which I can understand but is offensive when im about to cut him a check for 400 dollars. All and all its the fact this young man is so offensive that makes this experience less than stellar. To preface this, I could have had really terrible past experiences and just not have realized it. Also, I am not very demanding which typically means I do not receive amazing service or a lot of attention paid to my needs or comfort. Well, this was really the exception. First, I am used to waiting past my appointment time. I did not have to wait. In fact, the entire administration process was incredibly easy. I had come in for contacts. This is the part that has brought me to write a yelp review despite the fact that I don't write yelp reviews. I was asked if I slept in my contacts. I was never asked this before, and its much like telling a dentist that you don't floss. I did get the obligatory lecture (if you want to call it that- ), but also a reasonable plan of action on how to break my habit. I was first given a pair of contacts that the FDA did approve to sleep in, simply because I did mention that I sleep in contacts. However, they watched my eyes when I put them in. And like with every other contact I've had, it was uncomfortable for the first few minutes. They gave me a different contact. This is not something I would have asked for because I thought contacts were supposed to have an initial discomfort. But the second contact i put in, I felt no discomfort whatsoever. Also, I had never been shown how to properly put in contacts. I was simply told to open up my eyelids with one hand and put the contact in with the other. For the first time, I actually received some step by step guidance on doing this, and it made the process easy. In any case, I have rarely received that much attention in finding something that is going to work for me instead of a doctor simply saying you need to use accuvue oasis and you need to replace them every two weeks. So, in conclusion, I wish I had gone here the first time I had gotten contacts (or the second or third or fourth), and would highly suggest this to anyone looking into contacts. read more

I wish I could give this place 10 stars! My doctor was Dr. Carroll. I was beyond blown away with every aspect of my experience here. Let me start from the beginning. In the middle of the night my cat accidentally scratched my eye. I could tell something was wrong and I knew I needed to see an eye doctor ASAP. I called this office at 8:30 am, basically as soon as they opened, and told them what was going on. They said they could see me as early as 9:30! Not only a same day appointment but an early one too! Thank god because my eye was really hurting. I got there about 20 min late because the highway was closed and they still saw me right away. I sat down to fill out the paperwork and the woman working the front could tell the sunny waiting room was hurting my eye so she brought me back to sit in a darker room. I thought that was so considerate of her. And before I could even finish my paper work the doctor was in to see me. Dr. Carroll was awesome. Probably the best eye doctor I've ever been to. He quickly put some numbing drops in my eye to help with the pain, and got started right away. He took a picture of my eye and showed me where my cat had scratched it (ouch!!) I thought the picture of my scratched eye was pretty cool and I wanted to take a pic with my phone, but I knew it wouldn't turn out that well, so Dr. Carroll offered to email it to me so it would be better quality! Yay! Then the woman helping him (I wish I had gotten her name because she was awesome too) put a contact patch on my eye to keep it safe. She put the contact in so gracefully! I was totally impressed because she made it seem so easy. Then it was time to check out. I was a little worried all this was going to cost an arm and a leg - but it was very affordable. I ended up paying around $150 for everything. I think that's very reasonable since I don't have insurance. And they helped me out even further by giving me some samples of my eye antibiotics instead of having me pay a crazy amount ($100+!!!) at Walgreens for the prescription. So awesome they saved me that money, I can't say thank you enough!!!! Everything about this place is pleasant. I am really blown away at how much they helped me and how quickly everything happened. I feel like the people working here genuinely cared about my scratched eye and getting me help quickly. I can't say enough good things. This is my new eye care spot for sure. read more

Don't pay attention to the low rating posts because of Dr. Wolf. He's no longer there and was replaced by Dr. Carroll who is wonderful. I have been going to a different place for years and a year ago decided to try contacts. I am a difficult fit for contacts because I have better than perfect far vision but poor close up. (Presbiopia) As hard as they tried they couldn't get it right. After searching for alternative types of contacts, Tech Ridge came up as a preferred choice for this brand (Duette) which is half hard and half soft contact. I called and they got me in and Dr. Carroll greeted me and right away asked me how long I had been pre-diabetic. Wow, how did he know that? Must have been from my list of meds. He then explained to me the importance of eye health, what diabetes does to the eyes and how. He did a complete exam and used some of the coolest machines I had ever seen. He offered up some suggestions and even had me try on a pair of Duettes and an RGP lens since that was why I was there. He said he wanted me to experience the way they feel. First we tried a different pair of soft lenses that were far better than my old prescription but we decided to go ahead and try the duettes. We are still working on perfecting them, but I have never met a more thorough and patient eye doctor. He first told me I would be a difficult fit because of my perfect distance vision but he didn't care how many visits it would take. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Kitchen for the first time today, he came in and offered up some of his opinions. They are very good (they should be, they both have a Doctorate in Optometry) So as far as I am concerned this is as goo as it gets. Not to mention the rest of the staff are really nice and helpful too. I guarantee you will know more about your eyes than you ever knew before! read more

My fiance and I are both patients here. The front desk is always helpful although they're not always super cheery like other offices. As long as they're nice and helpful, that's good for me. Dr. Wolf is very knowledgeable and I feel is very fair when it comes to trying natural solutions to issues (i.e. letting the eyes rest with no contacts for a couple of weeks) rather than shelling out tons of prescriptions. He makes me feel comfortable during my exams and listens to any issues I'm having. You can tell that he is passionate about the safety of our eyes and making sure we are taking care of them. That's what he's there for right?! The assistants are also pleasant and make me feel comfortable as well. I also like that the office is always clean and they will re-sterilize any machine you are about to use right in front of you so you know it's clean. The reason I took off one star is because on my previous visit, somehow the doctor wasn't alerted (or didn't hear/see the alert) that I had arrived for my appointment and I ended up waiting for about 30 minutes before someone finally went to see what the hold up was. Especially since their hours are basic business hours during the week, I didn't have much time to sit just in a waiting room during my lunch break. But, I think that kink got worked out though. He's very patient and his voice was very soothing which eliminates any anxiety that you might feel during the examination. Getting my glasses was a breeze and they are great, although 7-10 days is a pretty bad turn around time. On the other hand, my husband has had a terrible time getting his. They talked him into clip on sunglasses which require little metal pieces embedded in the lens. When he went to pick them up - no metal pieces (after waiting the 7 days to even get that) so they had to send them back for a redo. Because of their office hours, he has to take sick time at work to pick up the glasses. He got a message 2 days ago that his corrected glasses were ready. He takes sick time to go get them today - and they weren't even ready!! Now he'll have to go back a third time, using more sick time, to pick them up. Good god, what is going on?? Dr. Carroll is fantastic. The best eye appointment I've ever had. To put that in perspective for you, I've worn glasses/contacts for 21 years. Dr. Carroll was professional, informative, friendly and easy to talk to. You can tell he truly values every single one of his patients, because he takes the time to get to know you. I did not wait long at all, maybe five minutes before I saw Dr. Carroll. I did not feel rushed, like I usually have at previous eye doctors, in fact Dr. Carroll took the time to thoroughly answer all of my questions and explain in detail what he was doing and why. I left my appointment with a better understanding of my eye health overall and a feeling that I had someone who genuinely had my best interests at heart as my doctor. This place is great. The office runs very well as compared to many doctor/optometrist's offices I have been to. The lady in the front office (I believe Tara was her name) was very helpful. I had just recently switched to a different vision insurance plan and we had a few issues accessing my information but she was very patient and got everything sorted out. They were very prompt to get me into the exam room once all of that was done. Dr. Carroll really made my visit here a wonderful experience. I am a fairly complicated patient in that the prescriptions between my two eyes are VERY different. This makes it difficult for me to see well with glasses,. Therefore, I wear contacts. I've been to several different optometrists in the past without great results but Dr. Carroll did a great job. He took his time doing my exam and explained everything to me very thoroughly (which I had never experienced with an optometrist before). My vision now is better than it has ever been. He got my prescription perfect and took the time to make sure the lens he put me in was comfortable. He even took the time to show me the difference between my vision with my previous prescription and the prescription he has me in now. On top of that they ordered my contacts and I expected to have to wait a week or so for them to come in (that has always been my experience before) but I got a call the morning after my exam saying they were ready for pick up. He will definitely be my go to from now on. I really can't say enough nice things about everyone in this office. read more
