Horrible experience: Ted was paid and retained and then failed to file certain forms, deadlines, or even process a large majority of my divorce. I terminated him, and went with another attorney. That attorney notified me that Mr. Smith is a turntable attorney that takes money which makes since, as I never got my $1,200 left of my retainer back which forced me to file an ABA complaint against him. read more

I want to first start off by saying Mr. Panneton and his team were professional and able to work with me while being out of state. Mr. Panneton was able to build a case that reversed custodial and noncustodial roles between my ex-wife and I. As an active duty military father, living out of state, this was a very long shot however, Mr. Panneton was able to win my case. This was my second time using Ted Smith Law Group, I filed my original divorce with them however, that lawyer no longer works for them. So when I was looking to get a modification for the original divorce decree, Mr. Panneton was who I worked with. The only issue I ran into was when it came to paying off my account balance. I called on Feb. 28, 2023 and was told my final balance was $2,268.72 which I paid. The very next day I received an email stating there was a glitch in their system that had counted my monthly payments twice and that I owed an additional $1,857. This after I had been making payments for 2 years. read more

I trusted my eviction case to Ted Smith. He had me present my tenants with a 3-day notice to quit. He had me download a generic one from internet. I filled it out, sent a copy to his office for approval, and was told it was fine and to serve it to my tenants. That was Nov 21. I was told that he would file an unlawful detainer on the day after notice expired. That would have been on Wednesday, Nov 27. I have no clue why he didn't file it that day. My questions were met with, "didn't you read the materials I sent you?" He wouldn't stop mansplaining long enough to hear my questions. It is now December 3. Almost two weeks after I sent paperwork to his office for approval, he just now notices that I neglected to put the day of the week on the form and my three-day notice would not fly. I have to now re-serve a corrected 3-day notice. And wait another 4 days to start the process again. My main reason for using an attorney for this eviction was to avoid losing any more rent than absolutely necessary. Not only was he very nasty and short with me, but his negligence is costing me two additional weeks of rent and the retaliatory damage that the tenants are doing to my property. I'm sorry I did not check Yelp reviews before hiring this yo-yo. What a joke. read more

-3 April 2023: Originally went in to inquire about the process for my husband to adopt my son. The lawyer (Mr. Don Morehart) seemed knowledgeable about the process, so we decided to start the process and put down the upfront fee of $3500. -19 April 2023: I reached out to inquire about where we were in the process, to which I was told that they were waiting on us to send in the "intake forms". We were given a questionnaire to complete, but never instructed to email it back to them. I emailed the paralegal (Ms. Catherine Bailey) back and forth multiple times this day. -24 April 2023: Emailed my husband's and my completed intake forms to the paralegal. -1 May 2023: Still had not heard from Ms. Bailey, so I emailed her again inquiring about the status of our case. Never did receive a response. -3 May 2023: Called the front desk to inquire about the status of our case. I was informed that my paralegal was in a meeting and I would receive a call back. This did not happen. -4 May 2023: Called again since I did not receive a call back the day prior. This is when I was informed that I had a new paralegal named Brittany (possibly a different spelling, not sure) and that she was "finishing up" the draft of the legal document that was going to be sent to my son's biological father to terminate his rights. -16 May 2023: I called the front desk inquiring, once again, about the status of everything. I was told the draft was sent to the lawyer for review and I would be receiving it soon. I asked about a time frame and one could not be provided. I voiced my concern that it had been nearly a month since we sent our completed intakes in and we still didn't have an answer. Whomever I was speaking to at the front desk (can't recall her name currently) told me that Brittany would be in touch and better communicate with us. Today is May 24, 2023, exactly a month after we sent in our intakes with absolutely no idea what the status is of our case. Our case is pretty cut and dry...my son's biological father is willing to sign away his parental rights and have my husband adopt my son...but for whatever reason, it seems as if this law firm is quick to take your money but not actually assist you in any way. read more

I hired Ted Smith Law group back in October of 2022 to handle my divorce and custody case. If there were an option for zero stars, I'd leave probably negative 10 stars! Ted Smith Group placed me with one of their lawyers, who when it was finally time to do a sit-down consultation, did not even bother to look at my face let alone ask me about my story. However, this greedy attorney was quick to practically beg for my money then scurry me out of his office to meet with another, obviously, more important client! I was barely there for 15 minutes when he told me that they "dumped" this caseload on his lap that very morning and that I was encroaching upon another appointment. I always try to give a person or business a fair shake before just writing them off completely as bad for business. So, I asked them to provide me with a different attorney. Ted Smith actually facilitated the new attorney's intake appointment. I left satisfied; however, as time went on this attorney, Mr. Don Morehart, and his good for nothing paralegal, Cat, proved themselves to be shams and incompetent people. Don fumbled at my temp orders hearing, when he failed to enter my key witness (CPS agent) into evidence and instead choosing to call her at the last minute to appear at my hearing. She got thrown out as his attorney, like any competent lawyer, got the witness barred from giving testimony at the hearing. He also had no evidence of my ex's alcoholic and abusive behavior as he "forgot" to ask for these items during discovery. He had nothing proving he went AWOL in the Army as he failed to use the military investigators as witnesses. Resulting in my ex being awarded EVERY weekend and holiday with my two-year-old daughter. DO NOT hire this firm!! All they are interested in is nickel and diming you for every penny while making your life a living Hell. I am not one who complains too often, however, I feel it my responsibility to warn others when I feel a person is doing more harm than good. read more

Doesn't deserve a star. Very unprofessional. Their front desk clerk has an intense attitude and clearly a sense of job security. Someone is failing miserably with management and education. The lawyers and assistances couldn't even remember what my paperwork was for, didn't get the wordage right. Then messed up the date. Finally I speak to the Owner of the firm Mr Ted Smith himself, and he's a disrespectful prick with a condescending tone. They will never get my business again. read more

I would rather no Star this group. My family and I were recommended to use this law group by another family member. Our first encounter with them was group. We had a hopeful lawyer who was passionate, understanding and very willing to happen. After about 6 weeks, we got an email saying our lawyer had been fired and we were assigned a new one. I was mad but understood. Well, after 1 month, our second lawyer was fired. We scheduled times to meet and talk to the 2nd later on 3 or 4 different occasions and the lawyer blew us off each time. Here is where it gets exciting. We got assigned a 3rd lawyer 2 weeks before our court date ( 2 weeks being generous). We spoke via phone 3 days before the court date and met 2 days before. We were not given any information on how the court process works. We asked the lawyer if we would need people to testify for us, we asked a lot of questions that we shouldn't have had to ask, that a lawyer should just know to do. We got to the court room, and our lawyer was exceptionally late, very under prepared, and not knowledgeable on the case by any means. Overall, my experience with this law firm was appalling, and truly terrible. They are a law firm out to get people's money, and not help in any way. I would have been better off representing myself. The only nice thing I can say about the law firm is that their building is nice. Other than that, If you want to lose your trial and be represented in the most pathetic way possible, this is the law firm you for. If you want to win, stay far, far away from them. read more

Not impressed with the firm. 1) First attorney proved ill-prepared for trial (asked a total of 2 questions of the Respondent, both questions prompted by me) over the course of 2 1/2 days, then was discharged from the firm the day after trial completion. 2) Second attorney turned out to specialize in business litigation, proving ill suited to the case. 3) Reoccurring theme with difficulty in receiving docs from the law firm (divorce ruling, decree(s), court dates, etc.) I informed the law office of new docs myself by perusing the Bell County Court Docket to see when the docs appeared, then calling to ask for the docs. 4) Attorney never discussed the ruling and subsequent divorce decrees with me. Ruling by the judge is very clear; however, the attorney failed to read the docs and in turn enforce the ruling into the decree. 5) Attorney negligently failed to understand that my ex's retirement, to include disability, is 100% divisible, as ordered by the Court Ruling. FED law only prohibits the division of Railroad, Social Security and Veteran's Disability. Ex's place of employment actually provides accepted formats for QDROs. 6) Unable to remove or obtain the personal property awarded to my based upon the attorney's claim that 'if you don't check it in, you don't check it out.' 7) Overall poor service and representation by the firm. I am in the process of returning to court to remedy the procedural mistake with another attorney. It that fails, then I have the option of filing suit against the firm for negligence in that the firm cost my financially in lost retirement and personal property. I recommend potential clients stay away from this firm. read more

Unless things drastically change it would be difficult to give Ted Smith Law Group a positive rating. 5+ years have passed since the 2013 accident which caused my injuries. The accident occurred on a county road. The oncoming car crossed the center line and hit our car. His insurance company has acknowledged fault. T. Smith Law Group held mediation but excluded me. T. Smith Law Group does not keep me informed. I must call them to find out status & for some reason T. Smith Law Group has procrastinated in setting a court date. UPDATE: After posting my yelp review, I received call from the law firm scheduling a phone conversation with attorney. I cleared my schedule to receive the call. Attorney did not call. I called the firm to inquiry about the no call and the firm rescheduled a call, again no call from attorney. In looking at the reviews appears there has been a decline in client service in the past few years. read more

The only reason I am giving two stars is because of the amazing attorney I did have the opportunity to work with. The Ted Smith Law Group handled my divorce/custody battle now roughly 6 years ago. I'm leaving a review now because someone still local to the area asked for my reference on a divorce lawyer and brought them up and I cringed and thought of my experience. Had I actually met Ted Smith prior to meeting Shana Einhorn, I would not have gone forward with Ted Smith Law Group. Mr. Smith came across very cold and not personable. Shana understood what a difficult time emotionally a divorce/custody battle can be and did an amazing job at remaining professional but yet caring. I really like that she had my best interest at heart and would tell me when I was being unrealistic in what I was asking for. I trusted her to handle my case and do what was best for all parties involved. She showed up to court hearings on time and remained very professional even when the other parties attorney did not. She responded to phone calls and e-mails in a timely manner and made me feel like I wasn't just a pay check. I called her almost 3 years later and she remembered me and my case! The one time Ted Smith showed up for one of my hearings, he knew next to nothing of my case and seemed very uninterested in it. When I got upset over something he quickly snapped at me. Had I not already spent thousands of dollars to get to the point that I was at, I would have fired him immediately. He was very rude and condescending. I am thankful for Shana as she reassured me that she was handling everything and she did. It was a long few months but she got everything taken care of for me. She is no longer there so I'd never recommend them to anyone. I would encourage anyone to track down Shana though and use her! read more

First off the reception is very rude. You think being in military town they would have little knowledge. Careful with dealing with ted smith law firm. They will charge you for ever call, email and pointless meeting. Do your homework before picking this law frim. They will give your lowest Quality service. They don't care about you or your family but as long they get their money. I had Nicholas as my attorney. 1500 retainer and 1500 more. Nicholas setup pointless meeting to sit in a room and charge me $325 an hour. Funny how my ex wife did more work on this case to finish it then he did. He would've milk me for more then $5,000 if I continue with him. He made many promises then forgets who I was the next day. They do not care about you or family but only the money they get. read more

I first met Mr. Smith in 1974 as I had been deceived by two riffed Army Captains who gave me as colateral items of equipment in their business in return for a loan to their business. Their business failed and I went to collect the equipment. However, they] Small Business Administration had first dibs on that equipment. I asked Mr. Smith to sue to regain some of the monies I had lost. He advised me that they were bankrupt and if we did sue the only one making any money would be him (Mr. Smith) as I would get a judgement against them, but no money. This firm assisted me with a moving violation and failure to provide financial responsibility while driving a rental in the Killeen area. The fines were exorbitant and I thought unfair for an out of state resident. The law firms fees were fair and they were good about answering my questions and keeping me updated with the process. It all turned out just as they said it would and they saved me a lot of hassle and additional fines. I would definitely recommend this law group. read more

I never complain about anything, nor have I ever wrote a bad review. There is nothing else I can do about this anymore so hopefully I can warn others. I tried to get a portion of my money back, not even all, and they did not even attempt to fix my horrible experience. I had an odd case from years ago that I was trying to get resolved for my drivers license at the end of last year (2014). I interviewed 4 lawyers and knew that I needed someone that would take a different approach since it was a difficult judge in a small county that I had the ticket in. I found a great lawyer at the Ted Smith office. I had this ticket/case, and a regular speeding ticket. She convinced me that she had connections in this county and would try a few different approaches. I had explained to her that if she wasn't sure she could at least save me the money I was spending there was no need and I might as well would have put the $750 I hired her for towards the ticket. We had postponed everything to the beginning of this year. One day on February I received a phone call in the middle of the day with a man saying that he was me new lawyer and she had left the firm. I wasn't too happy and expressed this as well. We then emailed back and forth a few times. I had to explain everything over again. I had to send in the same paperwork I already gave the other lawyer, even the copy of my drivers license which in my opinion was very unprofessional for them to have all this information that wasn't transferred to the lawyer that took my case without even my asking. I spoke with the lawyer once on the phone explaining everything again and he then emailed me later saying that there is nothing he can do. I expressed that I would like a portion of my money back seeing how nobody would ever pay $750 for a speeding ticket to get deferred. I could have done that on my own and it was not what I hired her for, it was just a case that she said she could get resolved as well. I asked for 2/3 of my money back when the lawyer told me he spent 8 hours working on the other case which there is no way possible and he himself stated he called twice and the prosecutor in the county said they could not change anything. I am extremely upset with not only the fact that nothing was done, but the unprofessional way it was all handled. I feel as if they felt they were doing me a favor. It was a horrible experience and like I said nobody would ever pay that to a lawyer for something they could do themselves. I would strongly advise anyone to not go to Ted Smith Law Group. The front desk worker, Raechelle, was always friendly when I came in and very professional. I worked with my paralegal, Mallory, for a few months and she made sure I was informed of every step and was patient with me needing to ask a lot of questions. Had two lawyers from this firm handle my divorce. First lawyer I found out was let go. I switched over to another lawyer Mr. Bailey, who though amicable did not seem very well versed in Texas law. The office was very slow in getting back to my emails, this was especially difficult when I had emergencies with the ex concerning the children. Police were called multiple times, yet the office was slow getting back to me, despite the severity of the situation. At last, divorce was finalized, but final draft was never completed, despite repeated attempts to get in touch with the lawyer to question what was taking so long. I was repeatedly told that said lawyer was in court and "would get back to me." After waiting for two months, I hired another lawyer, who finished my final draft in two days. Everyone at this office was nice, but very slow with paper work. I had to ask multiple times about the status of things, or to get certified copies of my paperwork. Overall very lax attitude about everything, and after the thousands of dollars I've spent, I expected my case to be treated with more urgency. Stay away. read more
