I love cheese. I'm eating some right now. The stronger the better. I'm fascinated by cheeses that look like they have microcosms of life growing on them, and sometimes, if I am brave enough, I will try the ones that you can smell from a mile away.
My friend took me to Teddington Cheese the other day. She was buying my Christmas present there- a big pot of French Vacherin cheese, which is the kind of cheese that you could imagine eating in an alpine lodge whilst the snow falls around you. It is a little shop, but absolutely packed to the ceiling with all different types of cheese. The owners were exceptionally helpful, and guided me through the different types of cheese on offer. They specialise in British and French, but also have a wide selection of other European cheeses, such as Italian, Swiss and Spanish. They are all here - creamy, hard, smelly, strong - all the cheeses in their glory.
I am also a sucker for goats cheese, which they had plenty of. What I thought was a lovely touch was a compartment of cheeses which are pregnancy safe, so that all the yummy mummies of Teddington can tuck in without worry.
They are also a mail order company, so anyone not living in close proximity to this place can sample what they have on offer. I suggest that you do. This is an absolutely charming business, one which can indulge pretty much all of your cheese desires. read more
