The lady working there could see I was having a difficult time with walking, so she let me sit down on my walker and took my list and got things and brought them to me for approval. I had been trying to get things through Amazon but their prices are outrageous! Like 3 to 4 times what Tejal charges. They had a lot of produce too. I stocked my kitchen very affordably. We visited here yesterday and had a fantastic experience. The customer service was most excellent and one of the best aspects of our visit (reminded me of the friendliness I experienced in India.) Everything from incense to produce and all the spices you need to do Indian food authentically. I was prompted by a recent purchase of The Kerala Kitchen which I highly recommend. What we couldn't find on our own the friendly owners helped us find. And I was excited to see fresh curry leaves in the refrigerated section, a first for me! read more

I LOVE ethnic groceries, and while Tejal is pretty small and doesn't carry an enormous range of products, I was able to find all the spices, lentils, sauce mixes and frozen paratha and naan that were on my shopping list. Prices are great! As well as food, they sell cook- and tableware, religious statues, beautiful brightly-colored clothing, stunning gold and costume jewelry, music CDs, and they rent/sell Bollywood DVDs too. Until I find someplace closer to home, Tejal will be my go to place for my Indian/Pakistani cooking staples. The owners are wonderful too - so friendly, gracious and charming. I'm a fan! read more

When I visit the family in Denver they invariably clamor for a homemade Indian feast. Of course they have few of the ingredients so I have to shop everything from zero. Unlike some other strip-mall Indian grocers this place is perfectly stocked with absolutely everything required to whip up a South-Asian blowout from scratch. You can buy in small batches or if you are going hog wild, you can get your spices in the big bags. Everything is logically stowed so you don't have to wander around looking for stuff, just snake your way up and down the aisles and get everything in one swat. And yes, they have those nasty mango pickles that will blow the top of your head off and all the standard canned chutneys if you are not making your own from scratch. I cook a lot from Raghavan Iyer's "600 Curries" which is an amazing source of authentic recipes. If an ingredient is called out by Rag you can bet Tajal India will stock it, in multiple varieties no less. In addition to the dry goods and frozen stuff they have all the standard regional fresh vegies that you can't find anywhere else. You can do all your shopping in one swat without having to drive all over the place trying to piece things together. More time to cook and have fun instead of sitting in Denver traffic. I met the proprietress who is a real sweetie as well. So, a great grocery and nice people. Five Stars on all fronts. read more

What amazing service!!!! Received an Indian cookbook as a gift and needed to buy spices. The gentleman who assisted me was beyond helpful!!!! He helped me find the items and explained the different heat levels, how to properly store the spices as well as singing the praises of his wife. Am so excited that I found this gem of a store!!!! They also carry pre-packaged spices for making some your fave dishes!!! This store is worth a visit and quite honestly I am looking forward to going back!!! read more

I have recently become obsessed with the idea of preparing Indian food in my home. However, I was poorly prepared as far as spices and pastes were concerned. After a quick Google and a phone call to make sure they were open on Sundays, we were off. The shop is stuffed full of everything from clothing to Bollywood movies to 20 lb. bags of rice to fresh produce to a-ha! Traditional Indian spices. We found everything we needed, and it was all really affordable (not that I have much to compare it to). Here's hoping that we're good at this whole Indian food thing because we now have more lentils, hing, and cardamom pods than anyone else I know. Check it out! I came here in a pinch looking for some lime pickle and sandalwood soap for my father. He lives in rural west Texas and cannot find ethnic items unless he drives 4 hours to Dallas. After trying the Asian shops on South Federal, I ventured to Thornton and found this little gem. They had a huge selection of pickles and the lady who worked there was incredibly helpful in helping me choose some good pickles and mixed achar. My dad was more than pleased by the products I brought him and the prices were decent. read more

This is a gem of a store. We live in NE Denver and usually have to drive 30-60 minutes to find a Desi grocery store. Not anymore!! The owner is so kind and her store has everything we could need, including a large selection of frozen goodies we don't usually indulge in, but it's so enticing! :) We're really happy to have this great store so close to us! read more

An excellent place to pick up groceries when I cook Indian for my friends and family. The prices are pretty decent as well.

My family loves Tejal. Jacob and Molly (owners) as well as the rest of the family (Alice, Julia, Jillu) are very nice South Indian people who go out of their way to help with any questions or requests! We have been going to their store for 3 years now for all of our Indian food needs. They have a huge selection of spices, spice mixes, legumes, rice, frozen items, some fresh produce, great selection of salwar suits and jewelry and a a huge wall of bollywoods to rent or purchase. And if you are craving a savory Indian snack or a Gluco-biscuit, they have quite a few of those on hand too.
