One of my favorite parts of the service is the greeting time: most churches give you 3 minutes before you have to rush back to your seat, but here the greeting time extends through almost the entire worship, which I think really helps build connections among members and visitors. Do be prepared for a possible culture shock if you're used to evangelical or fundamentalist Baptist churches. Redeemer comes from a charismatic background. If you prefer a charismatic church don't be deterred by the "Baptist" in the title (which they actually dropped from their name years ago, I don't know why it's still listed as "Redeemer Fellowship Baptist Church" on Yelp), you will feel at home here. The worship is contemporary, with their head pastor, John Piippo, as the lead guitarist. The pastor has a doctorate in philosophy and it shows in the emphasis on discipleship here. All the messages I have heard have been solid. I know not every layperson represents the church as a whole, but I have heard some irresponsible teaching on the charismatic gifts by some of the laypeople--never from the leadership, however.

I fell in love with Pastor Tony's preaching from the first minute I wandered into a service and his heart for the lost and for evangelizing is very refreshing. The worship music is contemporary and always leads me to praise God. I can expect to hear a solid message every time I visit, and it's also extremely engaging. The church does an excellent job of connecting with your family and getting you involved. There is a four-part new members class designed to teach the basics of the faith as well as what the church believes. The new members class is also a great chance to get to know people.

We were always welcomed in the community and never ever had any difficulties growing up. In fact my neighbors kids used to come with me to the mosque on Saturdays when their parents needed some relief and we used to go to the church with them when my parents needed a break. We were blessed to be a part of the Ohio community and cherished every moment of it. Its been a while since I have visited back as life has kept me busy but I hope and pray to Allah that the community there is just as sincere and warm as it was back then. I was among the handful of kids selected to lay the foundation of the mosque when I was a little kid and my pic appeared in the newspaper which when a kid is a huge thing. Still have the original newspaper clipping somewhere. Back to the mosque. Imam Khattab(May he be blessed) was a great person. He established a great rapport with the local community at large. It was also preached to our parents that the US and its culture/traditions are the new identity of us kids. He tried to explain in great detail that the next generation does not relate to the homeland and encouraged us to participate and become a positive influence in the society. He would ask our parents to adapt from the society what is good and shun what is bad. Saturdays were days when local people from the community were encouraged to attend lecture sermons and as he would always do, reserve the last 15-20 minutes for open discussion. It sadly seems that the new administration has not progressed those efforts of the late Imam because of the unfortunate incidents that have happened to/at the mosque/muslims of Toledo.

When I was considering converting, this was the first place I came. The community involvement is tremendous. There is a sisters halaqa class with Sister Fadia that seriously changed my life, and the Shieyk here was willing to help me and a large group learn Arabic in order to better our knowledge of Islam, mashaAllah. I am so proud to say that I took my shahada at this mosque over three years ago and I talk about how wonderful it is on a regular basis, even though I'm not living in Los Angeles. This place is amazing and there is something about it that makes me feel like I am home every time I visit. I miss the taraweeh here. I miss the design of the carpet. I miss the community. InshaAllah Allah rewards all of you for how beautiful this place is in both spirit and appearance. If you are thinking of converting and Yelped to find somewhere to come to, this is THE PLACE!
