My husband wanted a church that performed new christian music like what you hear on Air1. I was looking for a more diverse group of positive people that were not afraid to cry out Amen or just cry out to God when the Holy Spirit over took them. It was hard to get my husband to go, but I found this church right here on yelp and I dug in further and went to their website. Everything was looking good to me. After further review of their website, I showed it to my husband. I showed him the reviews on yelp, the photos of the musical production, and one of the sermons pastor Phil did online. So we went one Sunday morning, when we got up real early. And we loved it. The music, the sermon, and the people. We felt welcome by everyone we met there. The place was filled with smiling people and laughing children. They have an information station and we signed up to learn more about baptism, and for my husband, he wanted to become a part of the production team. Two weeks later we received a letter in the mail from pastor Phil with a $5 gas gift card for us to come back to visit them again. And we are very glad we did. My husband and I now work for their production team and are very happy with our decision to make this our church. This place is full of a diverse group of positive people that make you feel welcome. It is a home. Pastor Phil keeps it real, and I really like that. If you are looking for a place like this to praise God, please try it out. It just might work for you. Friendly atmosphere. Cons The Worship music is so loud, I thought that if I wore ear plugs it would be tolerable. They actually have them, if you ask an usher. On my 3rd Sunday, I remembered to bring my own ear plugs. I hoped it would make things more tolerable but they did not. I could actually feel the compression waves from the bass speakers bouncing off my chest. It actually became very uncomfortable and I had to exit the auditorium and only re-entered after the worship had concluded. Ever been at a stop light and have a car next to you blasting the bass speaker? It was annoying like that. I mentioned the volume level to an usher each time I attended and even wrote a personal email to the pastor to which I received no response. The 2nd week I complained, there was actually another lady about my age also complaining about the excessive volume level. If they would only turn the worship volume down below the threshold of pain, I would probably have made this my home church, but alas, I'm still looking. Also, as a committed Christian, I'm left scratching my head when a Church would rather blast their music at the cost of turning people away from hearing God's word for possibly the very first time.

Leader DH and her husband became too involved with my family without permission and caused years of damage to our livelihood to date. This couple told me to keep giving tides and offering so that I can have a breakthrough. Sometimes I would give over $1,000 as instructed for a breakthrough when I didn't have any issues. When I pulled my family out I was still contacted by this individual who became intensely involved to the point of contacting family members I did not know and make claims that were unnecessary that significantly interfered with my livelihood and ability to rebuild relationships. This continued for over a year with false claims of concern and increase text messages. Everytime we mention this matter it appears life becomes much more difficult and false concerns approach and what we believe as misusing resources as a way to keep us quiet. It has extended even to the point of lying about family addictions that never have been part of our family's lives. This can completely destroy a person's career and calling that the Lord has put on our family as a whole and as individuals. It is a family church, but the leaders they put in charge step outside of their boundaries and damage families by forcing themselves on families who appeared vulnerable. This need closer attention as it crosses religious beliefs obsession that causes significance hardship even after you no longer attend. It may be a church culture in the area where they seek out certain profiles to manage that is not an alignment with the word of God. We are highly intelligent and successful individuals who had our lives split open because of boundaries that we did not get permission for leaders to engage in her around our lives in the lives of our children Boundaries should be respected at all times and when a family leaves the church other leaders should not continue to text message or contact anyone's family member and build a false narrative about a concern because we decided not to attend the church any longer. I was told to let God handle it and stay silent because vengeance is the Lord's...which I think is a way to just keep people quiet when speaking about matters that shouldn't occur in a church. Impacting someone's life when they do speak about these matters is actually not letting God handle it... seems like a one-sided scripture.

I was rather surprised when random people noticed me as a newcomer and greeted me, introducing themselves and making me welcome. Since then, my husband and I have become members. DHC is a place where everyone is welcome and I have never seen a church with so many missions and ministries that reach out to the local community as well as the global community. Since my husband and I both come from different areas of the Midwest, the DHC family has become our extended family. I am very grateful that our 3-year-old son has so many surrogate aunts, uncles, and grandparents here, as we can only get together with our families a couple of times a year. I was very touched when my son was baptized and when Pastor Paul introduced him to the congregation as a person 'made in the image of God', the people spontaneously broke into applause. I recommend Desert Heritage Church to anyone who is looking for an inclusive, supportive church that isn't afraid to take risks. (That last part refers to something that is often mentioned in worship--'We are a risk-taking church, because ours is a risk-taking God').

I hadn't gone to church for over ten years and didn't really plan on going back. Then, my four year old told me, "Mommy, I want to go to church." Like all parents nowadays I decided to totally let my child run my life and dictate where we go....ok, ok not really he did say that and he and I had a discussion about what he thought people did a church (sing songs and eat cookies) and what went on there. It really got me thinking about spirituality and religion and such. So, I started the search for a church. I was looking for a church in which my whole family would feel comfortable. I was looking for some place that was open to all and did not discriminate. I was also looking for a church that did not make me feel like I had to either send my child away or sit in an enclosed place so the adults could worship in peace. I started my search on-line and went to several churches websites. I found one that seemed to meet all the criteria, but I was skeptical. I figured we'd give it two services and then try another and then another and then eventually just give up and go back to sleeping in on Sundays. From the moment I walked in I felt like this was a different kind of church. The people who greeted us at the front door were so friendly and seemed to be genuinely happy we were there. Pastor Paul gave a sermon that I felt was very relevant to me and what was going on in the world. I felt very comfortable and so did the rest of my family. We never ended up going to check out other churches although it did take us several months to decide to actually commit to DHC, not because we were unsure, but because it seemed like such a huge commitment and I didn't want to jump into anything. The DHC members we have met are so nice and caring. It's a church that takes God seriously but not themselves. So, if you are looking for a church that is inclusive of everyone and feels like a place you are wanted and cared about. I highly recommend Desert Heritage Church. P.S. Our training event was hosted in a large well equipped room with stage, full A/V support, scaleable seating space for a beverage and snack station.
