The food is delicious, the management and staff are lovely people. I always dine out in the most luxurious hotel.

If you don't want the full Irish (which i must say is good as they serve mushrooms, potatoes, bacon etc) there is not much other choice. I love fruit for my breakfast and bowls of tinned fruit is a poor substitute. The fruit salad only had apples, mandarin and a few bits of melon in it which is had to pick out. So i had to fill up on hot breakfast stuff and coffee. As i don't eat much in the way of bread that was ok but for my children they were disappointed not to find any pastries. The location of the hotel is just off the M8 but really there is no-where else in the little town/village other than a shop to see. Thurles is about 10 minutes drive away which is one of those grid-locked towns which should have a by-pass so that people visiting the town are not stuck in lines and lines of traffic. The evening meals in the hotel are rather expensive and without any neighbouring rivals they can be as there is not even a take-away near by that i could see. But the food we did eat was lovely, my daughter had a steak from the kids menu which was really nice. The chicken wings though were SPICY, so much so they could only be eaten with a side order of a jug of water! The pool is nice enough and the staff were very friendly, they even gave us swimming hats! Sadly i did'nt get a chance to use the gym as i had two kids with me but it looked quite good for a hotel gym. The staff on checkout were helpful, one of them kindly rang a couple of petfarms to see if they were open. They did have free wi-fi but it kept going off on me and was only really good in the bar area.

This is my first experience of an hour long wait for food which on arrival looked so simple to make up. Now it's not a gourmet restaurant but the food is nice. One hour. This morning I was woken up for the second time by a falty smoke alarm that happens to be in my room, brilliant. Bad experience, nice new hotel.

When we walked into the lobby, we felt that it was even better! It had recently been renovated and was very clean. The staff was very friendly and got us our keys quickly. We hopped in the lift and got to our floor. The corridor was also freshly renovated. When we got to our room, the door was already open and we didn't have to use the key. This was because the door was uneven. If you push it hard enough the door would close all the way. The room was awful. No decor at all. The bed was horrific. There were multiple places where the ceiling and wall were coming off. We let the staff know and they were very nice about it. I maybe would stay here in the future if they did something about the rooms. I think they are in the process of renovating them. I'd like to return and see how they do with it.

I've used spas around the world and this is the FIRST time I've ever been required todo this!!! 2nd...the spa makes you rent towels if you don't use your room towel!!! SO, your going to make me soak my towel for the spa, snd not have a dry one in my room when I want to shower later??? STUPID... I've been in five (6) spas this trip and Abbey Court is the first this trip and many others to have such stupid archaic "rules" or policies. Skip the spa and get a room discount for not participating in their nickel/dime scam!!!

The hotel itself is nice enough - rooms are comfortable, but simple and basic, but as long as you're just using the place as a base for exploring then you'll likely have no complaints. The bar meals are superb. I really cant praise them highly enough, and I'd even go as far as to say they're the finest bar meals I've ever had. The food in the main restaurant is similarly excellent, and service in both is also very good. Breakfasts, again, are plentiful and faultless. The bars in the hotel have a very olde worlde feel to them, and are very cosy and comfortable, especially on a winters night with the log fires blazing in the background. So - an average (but impressive looking) hotel, complimented by superb bars and food.

We had one castle room and one carriage room for our stay. Both rooms were quaint and well maintained. The gardens around the property are gorgeous and wonderful to explore during nice weather. The only thing to note is that in off-season the main restaurant is only open on the weekends and the tea service is not available during the week. While we enjoyed the food at Hermione's, the day we stayed there was a group event closing the main restaurant so we had to eat in the bar area. Most of the activities are off the property which wasn't very clear as we approached the date of our stay. We ended up visiting the National Stud Farm (about 30 minutes drive) and the clay pigeon shooting (about 40 minutes drive). Highly recommend both activities and really appreciate the staff helping us arrange these activities. The downstairs bar area is open late with a delicious charcuterie and board games are available to use by the fireplace which was a fun way to spend the later evening hours. Highly recommend staying at Kilkea Castle Hotel!

The property itself is stunning. Plenty to do between golf, the spa, the gym, bird flying, walking around and great food plus drinks. Thanks again for the hospitality! Cheers

So, our group had to venture to a nearby pub to order some food. We brought back takeout for a couple of young parents in our group that stayed behind with their baby. THEY WERE THEN BANISHED TO THE SITTING ROOM TO EAT THEIR TAKEOUT. Again, nobody was allowed to bring a morsel of food into their bar that was NOT serving food. There was hardly anyone there!! Just not a warm first impression. We were exhausted and starving, and that was a dumb rule. The woman at the front desk was not particularly pleasant, and she was also the bartender. Our room was sub par, cigarette burns in the tub. No extra toilet paper in the room when we ran out. And the broken thermostat was blinking the whole stay, begging for a filter change...gross. The china was also dirty at breakfast. The only pluses I will give to this place: the sitting and dining rooms were decorated well and the OTHER staff (NOT the receptionist/bartender) were pleasant. Owner also seemed nice.
