So very little time was actually spent teaching us fiddle! The young lady spent most of the 1 hour lessons tuning our fiddles and then there was maybe 15 minutes left actually teaching us something. It obviously would have been far more productive if the lessons had been at least 90 minutes, then we would have had time to actually learn something. I wonder if it's too late to get my money back⁉

I am seriously impressed with the excellence of instruction I am receiving at South Island Music Studio. I actually enjoy learning music theory and discussing the details of performing and songwriting with my knowledgeable and enthusiastic instructor. Practicing and doing recommended homework is not the chore it once was. You can tell when someone loves what they do, and all of the staff I have met at South Island Studio sincerely love music and teaching. Even when my instructor was sick, the instructor who covered for him held an in-depth conversation with me about the function and meaning of musical timing within a piece. Her teacher had such a gentle and fun way about him that after a few weeks of lessons, we never had to remind her to practice and she never wanted to miss a lesson. South Island Studio inspires kids toward a love of music! Now that we have moved away from Victoria we will be hard-pressed to find teachers of this caliber.

There have been problems with instructors being no-shows for scheduled and pre-paid lessons with no advance notification. The instructors (who are very good teachers and lovely people) have been deeply apologetic on those occasions, but it has occurred several times and has required reimbursements of pre-paid tuition with the front office. In those cases, the front office has come across as defensive rather than supportive or solution oriented, and we've not felt positive about our experience with the conservatory or felt that our time or registration was valued.
