You can register for any of their…read moreofferings at https://www.agapetennisacademy.com/ In addition to private lessons and league play scheduled throughout the week, AGAPE offers a three house Drill and Play session on Fridays from 9 am to Noon, for only $20. Such a deal! It's three hours of pickleball for the price of two. The three hour session starts with the Coach Meredith demonstrating a particular skill or strategy. Then the Coach circulates and monitors the students practicing the skill, giving direction where necessary. The second half of the session is leveled play. Usually there are 16-24 players. Coach Meredith sets up the games so you are usually playing against players at your level. The Coach is stationed on the teaching court. The games are timed. After ten minutes, the foursome you are playing with rotates to the next court. (You continue playing with the same players, but you mix up the teams). Eventually all the players play on the teaching court and have the benefit of Coach Meredith's feedback. Three hours of pickleball is too much for some people. Accordingly, you can leave any time you want. It's not rare for people leave at the two hour mark. Not me though. LOL. Ima be there for the whole thing. I've done the three hour Drill and Play four or five times now. It's made a huge difference in my play. I get more hits on Fridays than I do all the rest of the week combined. All those extra hits have allowed me to finally make a little progress. In addition to the Drill and Play, I've taken a few private lessons with Coach Meredith. She's really a great coach! You probably already knew that Pickleball is America's Fastest Growing Sport…read more I mean, doesn't it seem like everyone you know plays Pickleball these days? It's damn near ubiquitous. Even the E-Trade Baby plays Pickleball. It's like you can't go 24 hours without hearing someone yammering on about Pickleball. Pickleball pickleball pickleball. You're thinking, if everyone doesn't shut the hell up about Pickleball I swear I'm gonna punch someone! But they never shut up. And of course, as good as it might feel, you can't just go around punching people. So, you need to find a way to channel that aggression in a positive way. If you feel you need to whack the hell out of something, Pickleball might just be the activity you are looking for. Strange that Pickleball might be both the cause of and solution for your frustration. Of course there's much more to the game than just whacking a ball with a paddle, but the whacking part is so satisfying. A great way to let off a little steam. Ventura Parks and Recreation offers Introduction to Pickleball classes here at Juanamaria Park. Currently there are Level 1 Introductory classes on Monday nights from 6:30-7:30 pm, and on Tuesdays from 9 to 10 am. And there is a Level 2 Introductory class on Thursday mornings from 9-10. The classes run for four weeks at a time, and cost $100 for the four lessons. Legend has it that Tennis was played here at Juanamaria Park back in the olden days. You can still see the lines here that define a tennis court, but I've never seen anyone actually playing tennis. From the size of their huge ass courts, I'm guessing tennis players must've been about 8 or 10 feet tall. Just in case any Jurassic era Tennis players show up, there are signs posted to keep them away from Pickleball players. The division of court time seems equitable, but one wonders why time is blocked out for a game that's not even played anymore. And you know, there's more to Juanamaria Park than just Pickleball and Tennis. There is also a Basketball Court, for example. And there is a huge grass covered field just waiting for someone with a frisbee to show up. Plus they have those cool charcoal grills. Bring some briquettes and something to grill and you could put together a real good time here. There are bathrooms too, but I've never checked them out. I have no idea when they are open or how clean they are. But if I had to guess, I'd say they're pretty well maintained. The whole park seems very well-maintained. Juanamaria Park is where I learned to play Pickleball. It's a great little neighborhood park. I give it my wholehearted recommendation. Mikey C says: Zero Zero Two

Came to see 24k Magic - the Bruno mars tribute band. Our family isn't really a fan of Bruno Mars…read morebut they're all songs played on the radio that everyone knows so we figured why not come see what the concerts in the park are all about. We had SO much fun! The park was filled with friendly, neighborly people all eating delicious food, picnicking and dancing with their kids, dogs and families. The community here is awesome! We came a few hours early to reserve our spot with some lawn chairs and a few blankets, and got a pizza in advance to go from toppers so we didn't have to wait in food lines, but we did end up getting some ice cream from the mister softee truck! :) You can also bring your own beer and wine! Such a blast! Can't wait for the next one! Everyone was so respectful and kind to each other, this is what it's all about!

That's discriminating they claim to be a Christian based camp, but they are very judgmental and discriminating towards children. They said he can never come back. When my friends and I completed our beginner level lessons at Juanamaria, we talked about trying the Open Play here at Harry A Lyon Park. We were all a little doubtful we were good enough to hang with the Open Play players. Well, I had to find out. My coach at Juanamaria told me to come here and find Doreen, the woman in charge of Open Play. I found her, introduced myself and told her I wanted to play. There wasn't a game immediately available so, in the process of evaluating me, Doreen gave me what amounted to a private lesson. I was super impressed. It was such a generous gift. I learned a hell of a lot! Doreen immediately ascertained what level I was at and matched me with some players that were cool with playing a beginner. I was really grateful for Doreen steering me into the right game, and also appreciative of the players that welcomed me into their game. Very nice players! As it turns out, you are likely to run into all levels of players here during Open Play. There are a lot of very, very high level players. It's super fun to watch them play! But there are also a large number of average players, eager to improve their game. As far as I could tell there weren't any players worse than me. LOL. But I'm cool with that because everyone I've met at Open Play at Harry A Lyons Park has been hella cool. People are competitive, sure, but not obnoxiously so. Mostly you run into people that are clearly having a good time. Way more laughing at than cursing at their misplays. So, particularly if you are new to Pickleball and wanting to get some practice, I highly recommend checking out the Open Play here at Harry A Lyon Park. Especially if you are worse that me. There's an immediate need for weak players so I can start winning some games!
