Leonard Blake loves his vet clinic

I could not ask for a better vet clinic. Affordable, attentive and ridiculously wonderful at explaining the care options. I love this place for our babies. I would never go anywhere else.

Edit: 7/12/22 The owner Amy C. claims that the manager has been trying to contact me. She tried once on 6/29- I called back the same day- still waiting. Nothing? They pretend to care, but won't respond to me directly, only on here to save face. I've left msgs and several reviews but still not a response. Odd. Sink yourselves then.

We walked into the clinic on Mother's day and it was very busy but when we told the receptionist we were there to euthanize our 18 yr. old cat, we were immediately put in a private room. A gal came in right away to get the intake info and minutes after she left a tech came in to take our kitty back to get an IV put in his leg. Kitty was brought back to us and we were told to take as much time as we need to say goodbye and then push a button and the Dr. will come in and euthanize him. We said our goodbyes with lots of kisses and then Dr. Flanders [FABULOUS] came in and explained everything she was going to do which was saline first to make sure the line in his vein was clear, then propofol to relax him and then the final shot. Our sweet boy had a totally painless death. After death we were asked if we would like a paw print for no additional charge and we said yes and we were given a wonderful paw print with his name and a heart next to it. The price was very fair [$185] and I cannot recommend this clinic highly enough for their kindness, professionalism and compassion. The Bowmans

I called to schedule and explained that I was coming from about an hour away, so preferred an afternoon appointment because I would have to make arrangements to leave work early. The person I spoke with said she would talk with their ultrasound specialist about availability. She called me back a while later and said they had a 2:30 appointment the following Tuesday. I said that would work. She gave me no additional information about the procedure, anything we needed to do to prep and I never received an appointment confirmation. I did receive a consent for treatment which I signed and returned, so I thought we were all set. The morning of the appointment, I received a call from a somewhat confused staff member asking if I was coming in for my appointment that morning as they saw me in the schedule. I called back to speak with the person within 5 minutes of their call, but was told they were unavailable. The person I spoke with (a different staff member than the one who I spoke with to schedule) said that they did not have me down at 2:30 and that I would have to be there by 11:00 because a new patient exam is required prior to an ultrasound and the ultrasound tech was a traveling tech who was only there at certain times. I was also told there was a lot of prep for the ultrasound and my dog would probably be there for several hours. Neither me nor my husband could get away from work that early in the day. When I told the staff member this (and I was clearly frustrated) she added that a $250 charge would be assessed as a no show fee. The staff member was courteous, but didn't seem to have any interest in trying to solve the issue and with very bad timing added that I would be charged a $250 fee (which is in addition to the nearly $900 they charge for the ultrasound). I hate to post a bad review, but my experience with this office left me feeling like they are unorganized and the staff are not trained in scheduling and providing adequate instructions. Additionally, I felt the customer service is lacking. I told the staff member that charging me a cancellation fee for something that is completely outside my control was unacceptable. She told me it was not their fee, but charged by the ultrasound company and said I would have to take the matter up with their director. I felt like she just wanted to get me off the phone. She transferred me to a generic voicemail box, where I left a message and have not gotten a call back yet. If you are scheduling with this provider, I recommend double checking to make sure you are actually on the schedule and that you have all of the information about your appointment and procedure.

Extremely Disappointing Experience…read more We arrived at VEG with our dog after he was bitten by another dog and had a significant wound on his leg. We stood at the entrance ringing the bell for five minutes before anyone even let us inside. Once inside, we waited approximately 40 minutes, watching other patients being attended to while no one checked on our dog. Eventually, someone examined him and then simply texted us an estimate for approximately $2,300. No one came over to explain the charges or discuss the recommended treatment with us. When I reviewed the estimate, I saw $400 listed as miscellaneous charges and another $350 for stitches--even though we were subsequently told that our dog didn't actually need stitches. At that point, we decided to leave. We immediately drove to VRCC Medical Hospital, where the difference was remarkable. They took care of our dog immediately. The doctor personally came out, examined the wound, and reached a very different conclusion from the medical technician at VEG regarding the treatment he needed. And here's the real kicker: even with stitches and all of the treatment our dog actually received, our bill at VRCC was roughly one-third of VEG's $2,300 estimate. Based on our experience, VEG gave us the impression that the focus was more on generating revenue than providing compassionate, appropriate care for our pet. Do yourself and your pet a favor: skip VEG and drive down the road to a real veterinary hospital. You'll likely get better care, a doctor's evaluation, and save yourself a considerable amount of money.

I've been to a dozen veterinarians and this is SO weird; they never have a problem with things like this when they know you're out in the car. We were at a loss as we did NOT have a vet and didn't have a way to get him in a crate. Silas wasn't socialized as a kitten so we took him on as no one else would. He is not a mean cat, just quite anxious. Silas was a replacement kitty as our first cat died in the Gatlinburg fires -- Silas has a special place. Although we cannot hold him we can pet him. I called many vets that day and was frustrated by the answers I received. WE REALLY NEEDED HELP AND NOONE SEEMED TO CARE. (It took 2 days to get Silas into a carrier) Finally, I called AESC and knew after talking for less than a minute that this is where we were taking Silas. When we arrived at AESC the staff quickly got Silas to an exam room and within 2 minutes Dr Rutherford appeared. He addressed Silas' pain immediately, (he had been hurting for 2 days), and had x-rays completed in minutes. The doctor listened, was knowledgeable and we discussed the possibilities with respect to the surgery Silas needed. His jaw was broken in 2 places and he had additional superficial injuries as well that would heal by themselves over time. The surgery went well and we continue to care for Silas at home. He was discharged the same day as the surgery. So grateful to have found this clinic. Hopefully we will not need emergency services again. I brought my nine-year-old Pomeranian to Animal Urgent Care after a seizure because his regular…read moreveterinarian had not yet opened. I approved bloodwork to look for metabolic causes of the seizure. The bloodwork was useful and ultimately showed no obvious peripheral cause. What I found frustrating was discovering that an IV catheter had also been placed at a charge of $120. I do not recall consenting to catheter placement; I recall specifically consenting to the bloodwork. No fluids or medications were administered through the catheter during his visit. The medical record states that catheter placement was approved, which does not match my recollection of the conversation. After several hours, the treatment provided consisted of examination/observation, bloodwork and placement of the unused catheter. Hospitalization for continued neurologic observation was recommended, which I declined in favor of taking him home and following up with his regular veterinarian, who knows his neurologic history and current medications. I understand why an emergency clinic might want IV access available in case another seizure occurs. My concern is not that the clinicians considered it medically reasonable; my concern is that a $120 procedure was performed that I do not believe I authorized, and I did not understand until later that the catheter had not been used to administer any treatment. In an emergency, owners are frightened and making decisions quickly. Clear communication about what is being proposed, what it costs, whether it is diagnostic, therapeutic or precautionary, and obtaining explicit consent before proceeding are extremely important. My primary concern is the IV catheter and the lack of consent. The catheter had already been placed before the veterinarian came to speak with me. I was never asked whether I authorized placement of an IV catheter, and I was never told that it would cost $120. What I was specifically asked to authorize was the emergency/triage evaluation and the bloodwork, which I approved. The medical record subsequently states "IVC placement approved." That is not an accurate account of what occurred. I did not approve catheter placement. By the time the veterinarian discussed the diagnostic plan with me, the catheter was already in my dog. It was never used to administer medication or IV fluids. When I decided to take him home, I also had to specifically request that it be removed. Ultimately, I paid $610 and left without any treatment having been administered to my Pomeranian for the seizure--no seizure medication, no fluids, and no other therapeutic intervention. I understand that examination, bloodwork and observation have value, but for our particular situation this emergency visit was not worth the cost or the additional stress to my dog and me. In the future, I will make a seizure-management plan with his regular veterinarian so I know exactly when emergency care is warranted. His regular veterinary clinic opened approximately 40 minutes after I arrived here; in retrospect, I wish I had kept him safely confined and comfortable and waited for his own veterinarian. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this clinic.
