When I came to Jeff, I had hit a rut in my tennis game. My footwork was stalled, my backhand stuck at the level of solidly mediocre, and my forehand, while strong, not consistent. Wish I could keep the original review I had made on Jeff's request, but my experience has been negative. For context, I paid two 6-pack lessons with Jeff. I got an early request for further payment which I declined because both my wife and myself still had lessons to take, despite Jeff saying we had already taken all. This was the first red flag, but I decided to take this as a simple accounting mistake. Up until then, my wife and myself had been extremely flexible with our training hours, getting a late night email from Jeff whenever he had an opening in his schedule and showing up on the next morning despite having work conflicts or other things to attend. As soon as I declined his early request for payment, Jeff's attitude changed completely and made it impossible for us to schedule remaining lessons. After trying for a couple of weeks, I politely asked if he still wanted to coach us, otherwise I'd happily take the money back from the lesson he seemed unwilling to schedule, but neither did I get the money back nor were we able to get the lessons we paid for. Pretty disappointed with how things turned out specially given how flexible we were in taking any last minute opening he had in his schedule. read more

I am so glad I found Jeff! I knew right away he's a highly skilled, and personable tennis instructor. I have been meeting with him for months now, and feel my tennis technique (like grip, and follow through especially) has improved drastically. Also, side benefit - our sessions are excellent workouts. My body changed so much because of the drills and core workout that is hard to get by just going to the gym. Jeff is also super responsive, making scheduling a breeze. It can be scary to get on a court and suck in front of a pro tennis player, but Jeff has this positive personality and enthusiasm that puts you right at ease from the minute you meet him. I've taken a couple lessons with Jeff, and I already feel much more solid in the areas of my game we focused on. He's the first coach that took the time to talk about grip and contact point, which really cleared up misconceptions I had about my strokes. I came in as a 3.5 - 4.0 player with a very weak backhand, but within a couple lessons I already feel significantly more comfortable. He clearly knows the fundamentals well and knows what focus on without overwhelming the student with everything that could be improved. Best of all he's a fun guy and the lessons really fly by! I and my wife (both beginners, no prior experience) have been taking lessons with Jeff for about a year now. We meet roughly 2-3 times a month. Now, thanks to Jeff, we know basic strokes and are able to play one another and our friends, and have fun doing so. It is easy to schedule lessons with Jeff and he is always on time. He is also very understanding, for example he cancelled our lesson when my wife felt unwell because of the heat and did not charge us for the remainder of the lesson. Jeff is a very easy going instructor, i.e. you will not feel intimidated with him if you are a beginner. He also teaches advanced players. Note that Jeff also strings racquets. I had wanted to get back into tennis for some time but was busy and worried that the experience would be frustrating. I had played in high school (years ago) but, toward the end of that time, found that my strokes were getting much worse. So I was concerned to take tennis up again for fear of having those same terrible strokes. Jeff has helped me get over that particular hump and play more consistently and much better tennis generally. Each of us learns in a different way: through being told (audio), shown (visual), or led (tactile). Jeff presents new information in various ways til he figures out which way you most respond to. This is really helpful. If Jeff hadn't been as encouraging, skillful, and laid back as he is, I probably would have bailed. The frustration would have overshadowed the enjoyment. I've been taking lessons with Jeff for around 6 months now & I only have good things to say about him. Jeff is super friendly & upbeat & has an obvious passion for tennis & also for teaching. I took some very beginner lessons with Jeff. The classes are standard $60 per hour and he teaches in Palo Alto, usually at the PA Highschool. He's fun to chat with and makes the hour fly by all the while improving your skill. You don't have to chase tennis balls around either as he has literally hundreds of balls that should last a good 20 minutes at a time. He gave me a good deal on a used tennis racket which was also a bonus. Jeff is easy going and approachable. I have only taken 2 lessons with him and that was more than enough to get me going so that I could play on my own and learn from friends. He wasn't overly pushy with selling classes or packages of classes but he did e-mail me a few times asking if I wanted to take another class. I wasn't bothered and just replied saying I was done taking lessons for now. He's a smart guy and knows how to market himself! read more

Jeff is really nice when teaching, as a beginner I don't feel timid when making mistakes, and time on the court always flies fast. i recently started taking lessons from jeff and i'm a big fan. i've found him to be a very skilled, friendly, patient, and even funny tennis coach. he used to play for the stanford tennis team so he's clearly a great player. but he has no attitude, is very positive and encouraging while making you hit what feels like a zillion balls. he is in demand, so he sometimes has 12 lessons a day. when i see him as the 8 or 9pm lesson, he is still totally upbeat. he doesn't seem tired or anxious to get off the court. he remembers who i am (a sad but marked difference from some other instructors), is focused on where we left off last week and is helping improve my timing and strokes, and he makes it fun. my legs are like rubber at the end of the lesson, but each week i feel i am getting better, and have a lot more enthusiasm for playing tennis. he seems to enjoy teaching a wide variety of players and i'd recommend him highly. read more

I initially chose to take lessons from Jeff because of all the reviews here. However, my experience was not as stellar. I paid 260 for 5 lessons. It is hard to schedule lessons with Jeff because he has a busy schedule that is constantly changing. You can have a lesson arranged but then Jeff may change it the day before for unknown reasons. When I try emailing him or calling, he also rarely responds. Other than that, the lessons are of average quality. Lessons consist of simply warming up and hitting forehands and backhands over and over without him giving much useful feedback. If you want a good reliable coach, I recommend Coach Jim Gorman or Andy Harader. They both are in charge of high school varsity teams and are more experienced in helping you improve and are more reliable in terms of scheduling. read more

I started working with Jeff over 5 years ago, and he completely transformed my game.
