So when I came to NAKID I was not expecting much different, but was stunned at how different and how much more fun I had! My team is the Awful Waffles which was a team in a different league, we were all so fed up with the competiveness of the other leagues. Where they cuss you out if you make a bad play, make a bad call as a ref, basically have no regard for sportsmanship, and to top it off the league is ran by douchebags.It was so refreshing to come to NAKID, its fun still competitive(in a good way) AWESOME TROPHYS, cute girls for you guys out there, as well as flip cup tournaments every week!!! (AHHH HEAVEN!!) You gotta give it a shot!

There are some business names that scream, "Try Me"! Like "G-spot Thrift Store",…read more "Bite Mi," "Mooseknuckle", or...NAKID Social Sports. Anyone who patronizes those businesses is bound to be the kind of person who doesn't take themselves or life too seriously. So, one star for the concept and creation of Austin's Chapter of NAKID and one star to the fun ppl I met during the 8 weekly showdowns of ball-kicking during the actual game and ass-kicking during the subsequent flip-cup games. The withheld stars speak to the management of the league, to the abundance of fluff in advertising, and lack of information given to players. The owner/mgr actually lives in DC and apparently that chapter does well--proof that actually being available during the games is a real bonus. Instead, he flies down for the first game to welcome everyone, for all of 15 minutes, and for the closing ceremonies of awarding the trophy. In between, he is not attentive during registration nor during the season. For example, Tshirt sizes requested were totally ignored...we got way too many smalls and not nearly enough medium and larges as ordered. We showed up for the first game, and I--a newbie--was dubbed Captain. NO rules, nada. Quickly downloaded the iphone ap. Presto, ready to go. There are other instances, but the most irritating was when he emailed to survey which of two given dates we wanted the playoffs. After the votes were in and the date set, he emailed to tell us that the date was being moved to a date (that didn't work for almost my entire team!) not before mentioned bc some players wanted to attend the UT football game. I'm an Orangeblood, but really....? As it turned out, many of us weren't able to attend the playoffs. Considering that many of the players were non-paying (solicited by NAKID friends so they'd have enough players to form a league), this was a rip-off. The fluff pertains to the amt of free alcohol that turned out to be quite limited. IF you are the reffing team that week, your team gets a $20 tab at Gibsons--not enough for one drink per player if all your players showed up. Our first trip into Gibson's found them surprised at our arrival. Apparently, there was no prior arrangement made and NAKID was assuming that last season's deals were still applicable. We ended up standing around until someone figured out what that arrangement was. by the way, Gibson's was fantastic about all this! The "partying" they advertised amounted to a bus trip for a winery tour, which looked fun for the 8 or so ppl who went. Too bad we weren't told about its impending possibility until too late. INcidentally, all 8 were from one team whose lead player picks up and brings the equipment to the games (an assistant? don't know, was never told--she is super nice though). As for information dissemination, they wanted us to sign up on meetup website, which I did. As a result, I got emails as well as meetup messages, almost none of which were redundant and yet neither one had full details. There was no go-to place for information. For ex, one week we showed up for the game to find no one there except for a few players from some other team (not our scheduled opponents). Apparently the games were moved to another field not in sight of where we were scheduled to play. A stroke of luck --contacting the roommate of one of the players in the know--got us to the correct fields and by the time games started, it was already becoming dark--not good for catching flying balls. IN kickball at least. I am glad to have experienced Gibson's (free, fun Bingo on Thurs nights), Luke's Inside Out (great food trailer), and Flip Cup (my college drinking game--quarters--is outdated). In sum, this league is not "a skid-mark on the underpants of society" (movie, Dodgeball), but I think I'd rather spend my time at Mooseknuckle, in my newly acquired hot pants from G-spot, playing Flip Cup and following it with nibbles at Bite Mi.

Or possibly, it was a combination of all these things complete with the new friends we've made thanks to this journey. Old friends, new friends. Young friends, Old friends. Whatever the case, Monday night's have never been so much fun! Team IcyHots started out a smattering of friends, acquaintances, yelpers, complete strangers....a few short weeks later, we're teammates, friends, WINNERS! But to tell you the truth, even if we'd lost every single game, it wouldn't have made a bit of difference. WAKA rules!

I love being catcher (not a euphemism), because I love chatting with all of the other kickball players that I love. There's nothing not to love about WAKA.

Ladies Gaelic football is an exciting, fast-paced field sport that has elements of soccer, basketball, and volleyball - it's both fun and challenging. Recruiting for the ladies Gaelic football team has really taken off, probably because we get a lot out of our regular training sessions and the game itself is a blast to play. We now have an active group of more than 30 women training with us twice a week (Tuesday evenings at Burr Field, 7 p.m., and Saturday mornings at 9:30 a.m. at Zilker Park on the Great Lawn), under the direction of our certified Gaelic Atheltic Association coach. Our team has a lot of great athletes and also welcomes (and trains!) players with no prior experience in our sport. The Celtic Cowboys club also includes a men's Gaelic football team, a hurling team, and more than a dozen soccer teams (men's, women's, and youth). Off the field, it offers a variety of social events and community service projects throughout the year.

I can't say enough good things about T3. Where do I even begin? T3 is basically a triathlon…read moretraining group, but it is so much more than that. They are hard core about getting you to a level you never knew existed, yet fun loving and very team spirited at the same time. The coaches are awesome and I feel like I have gained so much from training with them. If you are just a beginner at triathlons or an experienced triathlete, this is a group that embraces people of all levels and goals. There are people of all ages and ranges that train for the sprint, olympic, half ironman, and ironman distances. I started back in April of 2008, with their swim clinic. Yea, I could swim..maybe doggie paddle swim a couple 50 meters or so, but I REALLY didn't know HOW to swim. They taught me how to do it efficiently, with proper technique. 1 year ago I couldn't swim one length of Barton Springs without freaking out or hyperventilating. Swimming was the only thing keeping me from competing in a triathlon...but here I am now training for a half ironman. Yes I knew how to run..yes I had a bike, but really I didn't know how to put all the pieces together. With them, you have coaches to help you, teammates to push you along the way and give you advice, and practices that will kick your ass. Another great thing about the group is that they have a very flexible training schedule that can work for anyone and everyone. They have swim practices everyday (morning, lunchtime, and night), they have spin class 3 times a week at different times, they have track and run practice 3 times a week as well. On weekends there are group long rides and runs. You don't have to be a triathlete to join, many people train in all 3 sports, 2 sports or even just 1 pf the sports. The skies the limit with flexibility. If you are looking for a triathlon group to train with, this is IT. I don't mean to sound like this is some marketing ploy, because it's not. This is the real deal, and I am willing to put the smack down on anyone that chooses to challenge this review, because T3 is absolutely, positively THE shit.

We've played in this league for four seasons, and unfortunately, things have only gotten worse. The…read moreBuda/Kyle or "South Austin" division has become completely disorganized and unsafe. Referees often don't ref, rules aren't enforced, and we witnessed multiple kids get hurt this past season. The whole point of flag football is non-contact play and teaching kids teamwork and rules -- but instead, the lack of oversight has made it chaotic and unsafe. When parents or coaches try to raise safety concerns, some referees become argumentative rather than taking accountability. If you value your child's safety, I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere. We will no longer support this club until major changes are made, and I suggest other parents do the same.

We put our kids in this league. An 8 year-old and one 10 year-old. They had the kids practicing…read moreone hour before the games. One weekend was canceled due to weather. They claim they cannot do the practices due to make up games for the rest of the season. There was only one practice and all the kids played street ball instead of real basketball during the games. My eight-year-old was in a 7 to 8 year-old league and ended up playing nine and 10-year-olds in the playoffs. The other team's kids were telling them their ages. You usually can see one or two kids in the entire league where you question their age. This team had five or six players that all looked over eight years old. I don't think this league checks ages or enforces them. It's pretty sad to allow a team to play down an age bracket just to win a championship.

That is what makes a place like Austin Pickle Ranch great. They have nice indoor courts, which means you get to play pure pickleball without dealing with the blistering Texas sun or fighting strong outdoor winds. My favorite if the first one in the left as you enter. It's a solo court! Having only played a few times myself, it is the kind of place that makes you wish you could play more often. If you are looking to dodge the elements and get a few games in on well kept courts, Austin Pickle Ranch is the spot to check out.

Don't get me wrong, I like Pickle Ranch. And I'm no expert in pickleball…read more Pros: Music is fun and lively. Plenty of courts to go around. Seems consistently clean and amenities are fine. Cons: Maybe not so much cons, I just think APR has become a bit stagnant compared to East Side Paddle Club. ESPC is cheaper, with more courts, and just as many events, clinics, and open plays. ESPC also has family plan, which is very nice on the wallet. Level of play seems more challenging at ESPC compared to APR, and just generally more buzz. Still very solid place to pay, I just think they need to be more innovative or come down in price.

Both of my daughters have played multiple club seasons and we've taken advantage of private lessons…read moreas well. I couldn't recommend Euroway more! I have sincerely enjoyed watching their skills and confidence grow. I was looking for a club where my girls would be challenged to grow their volleyball skills and held accountable to their behavior - good or bad. We're looking forward to another great club season!

Not to mention all of their staff are all extremely friendly and can direct you on where to go and who to contact. If you're into competitive tennis or just hitting the ball around for fun, they can direct you to social groups and teams that may be looking for players. I love CATA and they have helped me out tremendously. I suggest that if you're into tennis and want to meet some new people, give them a shout and they can help you out!

I hadn't even read the previous Yelp review when I called CATA…read more I was newly back in Austin, trying to find SOMETHING to help me loose weight and get fit. Tennis was something I hadn't done in 10 years, but wanted to give it a shot again. CATA was able to help me find a facility that met my needs (low cost, close). The even assured me I wouldn't be the only overweight person there, and that many people are getting into Tennis for fitness. I've since had a private lesson at Caswell Tennis Center (very centrally located) and start group lessons next week!
