I am a happy repeat customer of Sportsmen's for summer camp for my kids. The team there, headed by…read morean amazing and humble Ms. Nadine Houston, runs a tight ship and I am always amazed and impressed at how they set high expectations of the kids (behaviorally) and have the kids actually listen. The summer camp schedule is pretty suitably structured for kids, comprised roughly of 65% tennis, 25% other sport activities (ball games, swimming daily, rock climbing field trip, MFA field trip) and 10% reading and board game time (these are just my estimates, check with the instructors to get exact info of course). There is time set aside for AM and PM snack as well as lunch. There is a water fountain for kids to fill up on water, as it gets hot. Sportsmen's is being considered to be the host of tennis games for the Boston 2024 Olympics, and the executive director Ms. Toni Wiley delivered a great interview on local TV recently about their involvement in the community, and partnerships with schools etc.; a lot of which I was not aware of. Their down-to-earth but realistic and professional attitude made me feel proud of them which is what prompted me to write this review. The organization added a new health and wellness wing in collaboration with BWH in July 2015 and they will start having exercise classes there in the fall. I think this is an important addition to the neighborhood and a valuable example to follow. (Took one little star away as it could use a more air conditioning, although to be fair they do have a large indoor space to cool off so it could be hard)

She was at the front desk when I called at around 3. I had called to schedule a tennis court appointment for Monday and she said that non-members can only schedule a court the same day. I booked 2 courts in the last couple of weeks, paid 60 for one hour each because I am a non member, and have already played there booking 2 days in advance MULTIPLE TIMES. I told her I have already played there, and she said that it was not true, and said whoever let me do that shouldn't have in the rudest street-like manner. However before I was told by others from the front that we could book 2 days in advance to do that and I did! Then she screamed at me, telling me that "we put members first!", and I told her that all types of members count and that she is discriminating against me. She then rudely said she didn't have time to speak with me since there were members there and loudly hung the phone up on my face, she acting like a child. Someone with a bad attitude and a short fuse should not be working since they can't treat customers right. I am your clientele WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT. Period. If you don't respect your non-members, then why don't you give me back what I paid??? Exactly.... I called again quickly and she said again this is Rhonda and I asked her if this is Rhonda. She then denied this was Rhonda though she obviously is. (What a joke) I also asked for the manager and she said there is no manager other than her. I'm not stupid, she is acting like condescending trash. She then started yelling at me again. I was the wrong person to be on the other side of this exchange. She should absolutely be reprimanded for treating non-members like this!!!!!!! I reached out to both the general and assistant general managers. If you are not currently part of this club, DO NOT SIGN UP. They treat people badly like this, but gladly take your money for rentals. You are in customer service when you work at a desk, ACT LIKE IT. ALL CUSTOMERS are king, not just some!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a huge advocate of shopping local and supporting small…read morebusinesses. Especially when it comes to specialty shops, I really try my best to shop local. I've stopped by this shop several times, and though I'm a beginner, the person I go with is pretty experienced. But for some reason, every time we came here, I felt like the owner did not want to help us. I don't know what it was, because I'm generally super polite when I first meet people - especially if I need help. I don't want to assume, but for whatever reason, the staff here was extremely unfriendly to us every time we stopped by. And I noticed this even more a couple of times when the owner was helping other customers in the store - and being extra nice to them. Even other beginners. I just felt really unwanted and out of place. I'm not going to repeat the rude things the owner said to us, but it was very clear he didn't want our business. I'm really disappointed especially since there isn't an abundance of tennis and squash shops around.

Although the normal amenities such as the Ticket Office, Guest Services, Concessions, & Locker Rooms were not accessible, the Restrooms & Vending machines were. The staff assistants are excellent, too. I am athletically inclined and do some kind of sports or a workout every day, but my FAVORITE exercise experience of the week is the Cardio Class I take with JXS! I look forward to it each week.

I have followed Joe to his company JXS Tennis Academy at Babson College and I love it. Joe is the best Tennis Pro I've ever had. When I was a young kid and teenager, he was incredible at learning how I learn and making me the best tennis player I could become, later playing for NSHS. I still take lessons weekly from Joe today and I'm now in my 40's. My wife, 8 year old nephew and I love our weekly lessons with Joe. He has made me a great tennis player.
