We had beers and played pool downstairs before heading up to the alley and knocking down those pins, some better than others. What I need to do in order to improve my game is work on not turning my wrist when I release the ball, I had a bit of trouble there, and my friends didn't make it any better, but I reminded them, some of us may be in the gutter, but at least we're looking for the spares. Strike bowling is the perfect place to meet up with friends if you're all keen on throwing large heavy balls down thin wooded aisles to hit a bunch of white pins. If that sounds like you, then this is the place for that. But what it also offers, apart from group packages and functions, is downstairs beside the bar they have a laser tag arena. A simple game where you put on electronic vests and back packs and run around shooting each other through a dark and moody maze in some kind of, as the introduction video states, post apocalyptic world torn apart. Between shooting friends with lasers, bowling gutter balls and drinking beer, Strike Bowling Bar offers a great and different night out.

I've also been for a few drinks and a burger and some bowling, as well as with a private party. The best part about it is that it's not just bowling, the entry level is a bar with pool tables and arcade games and a dance floor. Upstairs is the bowling, and there is a bar at the end of the lanes, where you can also order food. There's also laser skirmish, which I am yet to try (it's booked in for a friend's birthday next month). As well as karaoke rooms (also yet to try and not likely to happen). After 4pm it costs $16/game, or $24 for two. On a Saturday night this goes up to $18/game or $28 for two. Its cheaper during the day before 4pm ($14/24) and for kids during school holidays ($8) There's also a bowl and blast combo, with 1 game of bowling and 1 game of skirmish for $20.

Not sure where the disco aspect came into it, that may have just been us, but it certainly made spending our evening in a bowling alley next to a huge RSL, seem far more respectable. It wasn't. But it was fun. Turns out I'm a much better bowler when I drink too. It's situated in the grounds of Dee Why RSL, so you can't miss it. Being a sunny school holiday morning at this recently opened mini golf spot we were lucky to get the last parking spot, and the kids were excited to give this place a go. Also being new was a breath of fresh air for those who have navigated older, rundown mini golf spots. We were armed with our clubs and balls, and helpfully suggested to start at the 10th hole as there was less congestion. This was a good idea as we realised we were slower than many of the other groups, and that was mainly dads' fault! A great course with a couple of cool designed holes, reasonable prices, clean and tidy facilities and snacks, although only partially shaded makes this pretty warm on a hot day. Good for a couple of hours entertainment.

Time it right, however, and it's one hell of a fun place. The cocktails are good, the music is fun (think bad old R&B you can't help but shake a tail feather to) and, perhaps most importantly, it's close to taxis for a quick getaway.

Great new facility complete with bright vibrant colours on the driving range to represent the grass, lakes and sand. Really stunning just to look at, let alone play here! How it works is you pay for the golf balls in the pro shop, head outside to the range to the golf ball dispenser, place a bucket near the nozzle, scan your receipt and watch the magic of the balls being dispensed. There are two levels and there are auto tees in some bays. The driving range is sloped in such a way that the balls drift towards "drains" which suck in the balls and return them to the dispenser. The facility is very well maintained and looks new and sharp. The standout is the staff. They are true professionals, passionate, know their stuff, and friendly. The lessons are expensive but really worth it if you're looking to improve your game - they really helped me as they were personalised to improve specific issues I was having, rather than structured as a crash course on how to play. There is also mini golf with 2 themed courses, a cafe, and the pro shop sells a range of clubs, bags, and other gear. I'm drawn to the pretty vibrant colours of the driving range and they were what got me into golf. Have come back time and time again.

There's a spacious and breezy cafe area with decent sandwiches, coffee and cakes which you can take onto the putt putt course, but there are no bins on the one-way course meaning you have to walk through others' games to get to the one near the entrance. None of the fun windmills, castles with drawbridges or dancing monkeys on this putt putt course, it's just stretches of green, pretty wooden bridges and ponds. And since I have no golfing capabilities whatsoever, the many ponds on the 18-hole course just meant wet hands for me. Highest score meant the I won, right?
