This was our first time trying Sourdough donuts. The place isn't too big, but it was packed the entire time we were there. They offer a wide range of donut flavors, cold and warm focaccia sandwiches, and coffee. The interiors were cute with the donut display being the focus point, and rightly so. There's also a window where you can see the staff measuring out and mixing ingredients. The taste of everything we ordered was delicious. We got 4 donuts. That's all we wanted. The lady who served us was really cold. As we were checking out, we asked if the cinnamon rolls on display were all they had. We didn't say we wanted one but she charged us for one anyway. We had no idea, she didn't clarify our receipt with us, she didn't communicate much at all. As we were getting in the car, extremely disappointed and upset with the service from this establishment, she ran out to give us a cinnamon roll. She said we had forgotten but we didn't even ask to order one. I thought she was coming out to apologize for her attitude. Clearly confused, instead of explaining to us that she thought we had ordered a cinnamon roll, she just extended her arm inside the car and put the box of on the dash of my car, then went back inside without a word. She could've easily remedied the situation by simply saying, "Sorry, I didn't know you didn't want a cinnamon roll." I would've let everything go right there. Instead, she just stared at us as my sister and I were clearly perplexed by what was going on. An apology could've gone a long way and I wouldn't have felt compelled to write a review. An incredible addition vying for a spot amongst the best donuts in the area. Gonna start with what's important, and that is the donut. Their flavor options are nicely varied with something for everybody, featuring various gourmet options while not going over the top. I appreciated the combination of including classic flavors alongside more exotic ones featuring things like fresh fruit, banana pudding, creme brûlée, Dubai chocolate, and even some more seasonal ones. The donuts themselves are large, and that is coming from somebody who never stops at one, these made me question by resolve (don't worry, I did not break but the thought did cross my mind). The dough was fantastic, well flavored, and the texture was great. While they were not quite as light as my personal preference, it was not that they were dense, they even exhibited that characteristic of good yeast donuts where they squish down easy, and these even easily sprang back up, they were just a tad too "bready" in my opinion. Overall, pretty great donuts that even held up to time, though they are even better ever so slightly warmed up depending on which option you got. The shop itself is nice, fairly standard but clean, modern interior with decent decor and a large display featuring all their donuts. The service was friendly and prompt. One thing I was not a fan of though was their packaging, they put 4 in a sort of takeout box, on their sides though. Yes there are small parchment paper sheets in between but it is still messy, they rub up against each other, get slightly squished, toppings get displaced, it's not too good for transport. Never seen another donut shop do it this way, I feel like donut packaging is fairly standard so why are we reinventing the wheel here. If anything it feels akin to sloppy over the top milkshakes that were trending for a bit, they might be photogenic for a post to lust over, but are not practical at all, as soon as you take the photo and close the lid, the damage is done. Now comes the kicker for me. The pricing. Absolutely absurd for donuts. I understand they are gourmet, I understand they are fresh, I get it all. A donut should not be up to $6 for some (they range from $3 to $6), and a dozen being up to over $70 is lunacy. Even if you get a dozen of their cheapest donuts, just the most basic standard glazed, $36 before tax, that makes absolutely no sense. The only reason I even got myself to get some was due to the storm they had a paper on teh door stating a "rainy day deal" of 12 for $24 of any kind. But honestly, unless I get a similar deal or just suddenly have a craving for something specific, I do not see myself returning in normal circumstances due to this. read more

We tried 4 different flavors. - The hibiscus donut had a fruity glaze that combined sweetness with tartness and was a beautiful purple color, though I'm not sure I could distinguish that it was specifically hibiscus. If you like a fruit/tart combo, go for this one! - The Dubai chocolate donut came with a chocolate glaze and was filled with a pistachio cream. This one was my favorite - the cream had a nutty/roasted pistachio flavor which balanced the donut nicely. - The chocolate peppermint donut had a chocolate glaze and crushed candy cane sprinkled on top and looked super festive. A great flavor combo as well. - The lemon pistachio donut had some bright acidity/tartness from the lemon but not super strong. The crushed pistachios added a nice crunchy texture. Overall, some of the donuts fell on the slightly drier/breadier side for my taste but I appreciated that they were not overly sweet. I would go back to try more of their filled donuts now that I know that the fillings don't seem to be too sugary. Each donut is large and they have a range of flavors to choose from. I saw an ad on social media for Tepuy Doughnuts and am so glad I did! They had a fun variety of donut flavors and they all looked amazing. We tried 3- the Berries and Cream donut, Lemon Pistachio donut, and Chocolate Candy Cane donut. All three were large enough to share and SO fluffy! They had a great density, very soft, and fantastic flavors. Each of them had bold flavor without being overly sweet or overwhelming. There was a good amount of glaze and toppings and you could tell great care went into their preparation. Tepuy Donuts is located in the Brentwood part of Raleigh. It is easy to get to from Capital Blvd/ 401and has plenty of parking. I had seen the sign near the road when driving home from Downtown Raleigh so it peaked my curiosity. So I was excited when we had a Yelp event there. When I arrived, I saw a large variety of unlabeled donuts that looked good but wasn't sure what was what. For the event, I was to get a coffee and two donuts. I assumed that would be a separate transaction as I decided to buy some extras. When I saw the online receipt, I saw that the lowest priced donuts were given for the freebie rather than the one that I had ordered for the event as the freebie. I thought that was a bad business practice as I had declined the coffee and was spending extra at the business and got shortchanged as the idea was to get repeat business. I didn't realize the donuts had different prices at the time or were so expensive at $3 to $5. The toppings on them are good and they were trying to be creative but the dough/topping ratio is off and they are very chewy and dry. I expected a sourdough donut to be light and fluffy. Overall: A really cool place for donuts, I would definitely stop by at least once to see what they are about. Food: The donuts here were very unique; a lot of them were flavors that I had never tried before. It's similar to duck donuts, but I would say less oily. The flavors that stood out to me were the creme brulee and Dubai chocolate. I've never had Dubai chocolate before; it had a very dark and nutty flavor. Been driving past the now open signs on Capital Blvd since they opened this doughnut shop recently in the old Brentwood shopping center. Finally stopped on my way into work one morning this week. It's very small inside, but didn't matter to me, cause I was getting to-go. There was a very nice-looking selection of doughnuts to choose from. Ended up with 8 total (for around $32 before tip). Let me just say that the Lemon Pistachio is worthy of the 5 stars alone. Those of us that ate it agree it was the best of the selection. And could just be the best doughnut either of us have ever had. Also tried a cinnamon one (least thrilling of the bunch, but still good), salted caramel (good), maple bacon (really good), and creme brulee (crackle on top and loaded with cream). My mom went by one afternoon for a crème brûlée doughnut but they were sold out. They suggested that she place an order online for pickup. The following week I did that, for a 10:00 pickup. I arrived at 10:20 and the line was out the door. Ts a very small place, one large bar table against the wall, like a high top. There were a couple people sitting and standing eating. I waited in line behind five people, with two people working up front. One taking orders and one filling the orders. I feel it would have been more productive to ask if anyone has a pick up order, since you pay online and they can hand you your order as opposed to reaching the cashier and informing them that I have a pick up and I still had to wait for them to fill it. Every time I drive into Raleigh or to the grocery store, I drive past all the signs for Tepuy donuts on Capital. I'd heard about their delicious handmade sourdough brioche donuts. So, I figured Valentine's Day morning would be the perfect time to try out these beauties. Because of the holiday, they were out of a fair amount of flavors when I was there (though they were cooking them up in the back!), but the service was phenomenal. I opted for 4 flavors (though I wanted to try them all). The chocolate glazed was classically delicious and came out warm. The s'mores donut was listed under stuffed donuts, though it didn't seem stuffed. Nonetheless, it was tasty - tasted like the chocolate glazed but with a toasted marshmallow. The crème brûlée donut was a standout - the exterior was perfectly crispy and the inside was packed with crème filling, which was fluffy and not overly sweet. Lastly, the nutella donut, which was just coming out from being cooked and coated in powdered sugar, was phenomenal - not surprising though as I am a sucker for nutella. Today we spent $46.99, including tip, on a lemon pistachio donut, a cinnamon roll, "The Mortal" sandwich, and the daily special, a French dip sandwich. Originally, we were drawn here for the donuts and were pleasantly surprised to find an expansive menu of savory options as well. The donuts are the clear star of the show, exceptional in flavor and texture. The cinnamon roll was also excellent, though I personally would have liked a bit more cinnamon. Overall, the savory side feels like a work in progress. If not for the donuts, I would have rated the place 3 stars. So far, we've visited Tepuy three times. On two of those visits, we ordered sandwiches, and the experience has been mixed. The sandwiches are made with fresh focaccia bread, which is excellent. However, the kitchen is slow, expect to wait at least 20 minutes for food. On our most recent visit, one sandwich took 45 minutes. After waiting half an hour, we checked in and were told it would be out shortly. Fifteen minutes later, it still hadn't arrived, so we took it to go. We received a brief apology at the end, but no real explanation or gesture to make up for the long delay. The sandwich we took home, a roast beef with caramelized onions, was disappointing. The roast beef was dry, and the onions were not truly caramelized; instead they were simply cooked and then sugar was added to compensate for the lack of carmelization. Also It lacked salt, leaving the sandwich tasting overly sweet without salt to balance out the flavor. In fact, every sandwich we've tried so far has had at least one glaring issue. Without the excellent focaccia bread, they would be a clear miss. Priced between $13 and $14 with no sides, the sandwiches simply don't deliver. A final note: the shop offers only bar seating inside and limited outdoor seating that faces Capital Blvd and its busy parking lot. read more

I'm not typically a crème filled donut gal but crème brûlée is my favorite dessert so I decided to give their version a try. As well as grabbing my tried and true - chocolate icing with sprinkles. The sourdough donut is so thick and fluffy! Where other donuts melt in your mouth, these feel hearty in a way. The crème brûlée was exactly like what you would expect with the hard sugar outer shell. I'm still not a crème filled donut fan but I did enjoy this one. And of course I gobbled down the chocolate icing with sprinkles with reckless abandon.
