I hate so much that this is the bagel place closest to me. They truly never get anything right and they always just stand there. They have no concept of multitasking it for a busy bagel place. I don't know how long I've been buying bagels at NYBD, but it surely over a decade. For 20 years, almost every Sunday has been bagels and lox with my parents. When they were more mobile, before the pandemic, they went and picked up two dozen every couple of weeks, and froze them. During the pandemic that became my job. But somewhere over the last year or so the bagels changed. They are soft, they have no bite to them, and they're just not New York bagels anymore. Here is a sad story - I was loyal to this retailer for many years because I loved their bagels that reminded me of home, and when I say I was loyal I'm taking about coming into the store to get my monthly supply during the pandemic. But I won't be coming here to get my bagels anymore. I had an incident where something in one of the bagels my kid ate caused an allergic reaction and I called to complain and ask for a make good because normally I got the whole wheat everything and they did not have it. So I ended up talking to the owner and after he refused to help me out so I decided that it was best for me to stop coming here any longer. Why should I stay loyal to someone who is not loyal to me? Highly overpriced, small portions, owner is a complete dbag. I once left and went back later to pay for a second cup of coffee and they told me I already paid for my coffee today and that I can refill for free. So I was like "awesome, this is where I'm going to buy my coffee every morning. It's overpriced but not with free refills. A month goes by and then one day, I come in and one of the kids I was friendly with, told me the owner said if I'm going to get a refill, it has to be within an hour of buying my coffee. Like, what? Either charge me for a second coffee or don't but don't tell me there's a one hour restriction on refilling my drink. Ridiculous. Then as I was leaving after the employee told me this, the owner called me over and told me I couldn't cut the food line to get coffee anymore because it's not fair to other people. Which again, his employees rightfully told me to do in the first place. At this place, each person, orders, then the same person who takes your order makes the food and then the same employee, cashes you out. They do this stupid system 1 customer at a time so it always takes extra long to get your food. It's seriously so stupid and even more stupid that I would have to wait in line behind people who are still looking at the menu, deciding what they want and I just want a cup of coffee. I would have spent probably $1-3k annually on coffee at this place but since the owner is a dbag, I'm going somewhere else and you should too. read more

I ordered a Hungry Man -- you know, sausage, bacon, ham, cheese, and eggs with home fries (not French fries!) -- real potatoes seasoned with bell peppers and onions on a hero. The clerk had no idea what that was, so I had to point to the French bread and requested out: toasted with bacon, eggs, cheese, ham, and sausage. Then we turned around to grab some coffee -- and guess what? Every single coffee pot was EMPTY! I've been to plenty of delis, and the coffee is always ready to go for us coffee lovers. When I say that, I actually mean that it was better than most other bagels that have tried here in North Carolina. well, makes New York bagel different than any other bagel is the consistency. You have to have the right chewiness. You have to have the right crusting and you have to have the right seasoning not skimping on it or trying to make it but it's not. It's very impressed with the bagel that I had had the right consistency. It was chewy in the middle but also it was not as fresh as coming out of the oven so we will take a look at it more in the morning when I go one day see how it fits is and fluctuates with that. read more

I ordered the pastrami, egg, and cheese on a garlic bagel. After taking the picture, I immediately devoured my bagel. It was chewy, flavorful, and SO satisfying. There was a lot of pastrami on my bagel which was great, but it was not spread out too evenly -- some bites just had pastrami and some just had egg and cheese. The pastries are always stocked - I've tried a lot of them but my favorites are the blueberry muffin, apple turnover and blueberry danish. It was My girlfriend and I first time coming jn and I let the gentleman know he said "cool the board is there if you can read it" the menus is on a whiteboard and half of it is erased so you can't see half of what they have. We were next in line and this lady tell us rudely "can you guys move so I can cash out my customer" with this stank face and after she cashed out the guy BEHIND us proceeded to tell a coworker that she needs to tell people to wait for the person who took the order to cash them out and then stormed to the back speaking another language. My husband ordered a MILE HIGH corned beef on rye. It was pathetic. For $10?!?!? No thank you. Never again. My son ordered pork roll egg and cheese.
