Extremely unprofessional I am creating this review in the hopes of saving other people the time I spent trying to contact and order a cake from them. I first encountered Teresa's Custom Cakes at a wedding fair in February 2020 and tried contacting them several times to redeem a coupon I'd won at their wedding fair setup, they rarely if ever reply to emails and when I finally got in contact with them for a tasting Covid hit. Flash forward a year and the fiancé and I decided to go through with our previously postponed wedding instead of postponing again and were desperately searching for a small wedding cake to feed 20 and a friend recommended them which I recognized from the fair. They never responded to any emails and when I called to try and discuss a wedding cake they said they could definitely do it but never got back to me with more details so we decided to take our business elsewhere (Crave Cupcakes made an amazing cake for us!). read more

Teresa made our beautiful and delicious wedding cake! It is important to note that Teresa sat down with us over the year mark to our wedding; we had attempted contacting other cake shops and they wouldn't even talk to us until we had less than a year to our wedding. We gave Teresa a Pinterest inspired cake photo but wanted some alterations. Teresa did not hesitate to make exactly what we asked for. We were going to save some of our cake to eat later in the year but almost all of it is gone because we can't help ourselves. We are so glad that we didn't have to worry about the cake at all on an already hectic day. We cannot give enough thanks to Teresa and Teresa's Custom Cakes! read more

This was a disaster. I picked a beautiful tiered ombré cake that was to be decorated with a cascade of buttercream flowers and I requested the cake be raspberry flavored. Teresa wasn't there when we went to pick up the cake on the day of the event and all that was waiting was an iced undecorated plain white cake, no flowers, no raspberry. It was a Sunday and I didn't know what to do so we took it to the closet Sobeys and they made it look phenomenal. I regards to the cake, it was dry, most guests either didn't try it or just took a bite and didn't finish it. If you choose to go with this bakery, make sure she knows exactly what you want. My daughter and I attended one of the cake night events a few months ago. We had a lovely time! In fact, we just ordered 4 cakes for the "take and make" for this weekend for a few friends of our. Me and my husband went for our first meeting/consultation and liked what we saw and signed a contract that day.. I had asked for ruffles going from the bottom all the way to the top, with a few fondant flowers placed on the cake where she thought would work best. One our wedding day, the cake was delivered while I was at a different location getting ready. After our ceremony and pictures I finally got to see the cake and it was NOTHING like I had asked for. It only included 3 ruffles on each tier! While the cake was delicious, that's not what we agreed upon and signed a contract for. I sent an email to Teresa a couple days after the wedding to let her know that I wasn't too happy about it being so different. Below is my response from her. "I am happy the cake tasted good. As for the design of the cake I'm sorry for the confusion. There would have been an additional charge for the ruffles to go all the way up the cake as it requires quite a bit more fondant and is quite time consuming. I hope this provides some sort of explanation. Again I apologize for the confusion." In my opinion, if someone cannot provide what you sign for on a contract, the customer needs to be notified. This was completely unacceptable. Our contract never stated anywhere that only 3 ruflles on each tier were included. The pictures provided and attached to our contract clearly showed ruffles top to bottom. Another email was sent to Teresa after I received hers, but I never received another response from her. If I would have known it cost more for what I wanted, we would have either paid more or gone elsewhere if she was unable to do it. read more

Extremely unreliable. I met this company at the wedding fair a week ago in which they offered an appointment booklet to have the opportunity to schedule a consultation with them. I thought that this was an awesome idea to get the ball rolling so I scheduled an appointment for the upcoming Friday at 3pm. The day prior they sent a text message to me to confirm the appointment, however I was unable to respond to the message immediately. I did respond to the message to confirm that I would be attending the next day and they told me that they had given away my appointment! Their request for confirmation did not say that if I didn't respond immediately I would be removed from their schedule nor did they try and contact me prior to giving my appointment to someone else. When speaking with them about this, they blamed me for not responding and "had to make a decision". What if I didn't confirm and had just shown up for my appointment?! I've never heard of any other business or profession cancelling and replacing their customer because they didn't receive an immediate confirmation response. For someone who plans to spend money on a wedding service, I would hope that it would be on a more professional and reliable company than this one! read more

I wasn't going to make any comments about Teresa's Cakes but after the nightmare that she put my friend through I figured I should comment as well. We got married in July and booked Teresa. We had set up for the cake to be delievered to our reception room about 1 PM the day before the wedding, while we were there setting everything up. We got there early and started to get to work. At 2 PM there was still no cake so my huband-to-be tried calling Teresa but got no answer. Finally at around 3:30 Teresa showed up. There was no apology for being so late. The cake was delicious and looked nice but I was a little stressed out and annoyed at how she was late. read more

When I booked my cake with Teresa in January 2012 I was confident in my decision. The layout of her cake sampling was professional and she seemed organized. I ordered a $350 dollar cake and $50 cupcakes for a gluten free option. I paid her a 50% deposit via email money transfer and she said she expected the other 50% mid October. My wedding was November 10th, 2012 On October 21 I went to her place to drop off some decorations we had agreed to meet at 1 but she was in an appointment with some other clients. Her husband and business partner took us in and wrote on our cake order sheet that we would like our cake to be ready for pick up 830 am on Nov 9th, 2012. He took my decorations. On November 9th it was a terrible snow stom. My husband and wedding party were driving up together but were delayed in the snow. They arrived at Teresa's at 9:30 am and Teresa was surprised to see them. She said that she didn't have the cake or the cupcakes ready. She said she could have them ready within 2 hours but with the bad weather they really could not wait. As it was the drive took them over 8 hours and my rehearsal was at 6 pm. After my husband left I received a call from Teresa. She said she was very sorry and that she would be giving me a full refund along with paying for my solution I found in Medicine Hat, a years worth of free cakes and the top layer of my cake to put in the freezer. Under the circumstances I thought that was very decent of her. I was very calm when this was happening. I was in Medicine Hat already and very busy doing last minute things. Some family had arrived but the majority of my guests were driving down in a convoy with my husband. I am a coordinator for work and I guess that makes me "roll with the punches" well. I got off the phone with her and drove to a few bakeries in Medicine Hat and Redcliff to see what I could do. There was no way to get a wedding cake on such short notice. I ended up ordering a slab cake from Redcliff Bakery which cost $46. I called Teresa and gave her the information. She said she would call them back. On Tuesday, November 13th I received a phone call from the baker who said they had not gotten a call with payment yet. I was already back in Edmonton. I said to them that I would call Teresa and figure out what happened. I called Teresa who said she forgot and that she would call right away. On wednesday I called the bakery to confirm and they said they had not received payment. I called Teresa who said she didn't get an answer that she would call them back right now. I called the bakery after an hour to confirm and they hadn't received a call. I paid them myself. It was not fair to ask them to wait any longer. When I was talking to Teresa on Wednesday I also asked her about my refund. She asked me if I could give her a week. This seemed a little fishy to me but I wanted my money so I was compliant. After her actions with paying the bakery I was a little worried about her keeping her word so I wrote her an email stating that I paid the bakery and I expected a refund on or before Nov 23rd, 2012. A full 2 weeks after she failed to produce a wedding cake for us. On November 22nd, 2012 I had not received correspondence from Teresa. I called her to see where she was at with my refund. She said that she was very busy and had not had time to call me and that she would send the transfer tomorrow (friday) afternoon. She said that I should be aware that email money transfers have been acting up lately that it might take awhile for me to receive it. This seemed to me like a quailifier for more time. We also discussed the top layer of the cake for the freezer. She said that it would cost her around $50 dollars to make so that she would make it and refund me around $350. I said if it was a matter of getting charged I did not want the cake. She said she would make it for me anyway. Sunday evening I emailed her stating that her lack of response was interpreted as dodging the payment and that if I did not receive concrete evidence that I was getting my refund by 4 pm Monday November 26 that I would be opening a case against her with the better business bureau. I received a call within 10 min. She said that "the situation is clearly stressing you out and here's what I'm going to do for you". She said she had been out of town and that she would come to my place with my money. The way she talked to me was not resentful and more annoyed. It was the first time she had acknowledged that she put me in a stressful situation. She came by my house within an hour with the money. From her webpage I know that she was at a cake auction. She delayed paying me until she had cash in hand. Brides Beware! Do not buy a cake from someone who asks for so much money up front! . Since the day she paid me she has not contacted me. I am not getting a cake for my freezer and I would not expect to get any free cake from this woman. She does not deliver on her promises!!!! read more
