Hubs and I were in Madison and I remembered reading a review on Yelp for Teresita's Tamales. I looked the business up and found out it was very close to where we were and a right turn in so we headed there. The food truck is located by a Chevron and easy to see from the road. We walked up to the window and placed our order. The lunch special was two Carne Asada Tacos so we got an order to go. We added a cup of Esquites, corn, and three chicken and three pork tamales to go. The Carne Asada Tacos were delicious, as was the Eaquites, and the two varieties of tamales. Our foods were so good we pondered which we liked best. The tamales are the best I have eaten. They have a bit of a spicy kick to them. If I were younger, I would eat more than the one I had. My stomach can't eat hot like I could years ago. The tacos were my favorite and hubs agreed but then said the tamales were awesome. The lady at the order window brought our food to our car for us. That was very nice of her. We enjoyed our trip to Teresita's Tamales Food Truck and we will be back to try other tasty items. They have excellent food and customer service. I think, after trying this truck 3 times, I've realized these tamales just aren't for me. I wanted to like them so terribly because they look delicious, the folks running the business seem lovely, and EVERYONE raves about them. But I can't write it off as a bad batch or anything after trying so many times. The first time was a couple years ago right after the truck got its start. It visited a neighborhood in the OXR area and I made the drive over to try because I wanted to see what everyone was raving about. It was so popular and, as a result of being new, fairly slow -- and I wound up waiting in line for over an hour. I didn't like the tamales I got very much, but I wrote it off as it being the tail end of service and them being run ragged from the insane lines. The second time, my order was beyond messed up and I didn't realize until I'd gotten home and it was too late to get it fixed. The only thing that was right was my corn in a cup...much of which spilled in the plastic bag because the lid wasn't attached properly. Argh. Finally had some luck at a truly solid go of it at the Piper and Leaf Maker's Market a week or so ago. My parents and I wanted to share a light lunch and so we got a tamale combo to share. And, once again, it didn't do much for me. All three times, I've found the tamales fairly dry and, while not flavorless, not exactly bursting with flavor, either. Here are some observations: These are the more traditional style of tamale (as opposed to Delta hot tamales, which my mom loves), and like I said, I found them pretty dry on all my attempts. This is improved some by the addition of salsa or queso, but these are all added costs (fairly high ones for the meager amount you get - think fast food ketchup sized cup), and it's also easy to forget to order them. It would be nice if a combo came with your choice of at least one. The salsas, both red and green, have vibrant flavors and some kick. The rice and beans are standard but unobjectionable. They do usually have some vegetarian options, which is nice. I've tried the pork, chicken, and rajas (veggie) tamales. The best of the three, to me, is the pork -- it is faintly spicy and more moist, imo. But FWIW my parents like the chicken more, so who can really say? What I HAVE enjoyed has been the esquite (corn in a cup). It's been refreshing, with a pleasant texture and combination of flavors. I'd order it again. I've also enjoyed the pleasant service I've received each visit. In more recent times, they've expanded to doing dishes other than tamales: tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, etc. They also sometimes offer dessert/sweet tamales, like pineapple or pumpkin. All of this sounds intriguing and I'd be willing to try it in the future. If more traditional tamales are your jam, then by all means give this nice local business a try. I truly think the problem is more a me problem than a them problem, but that's just my experience. read more

So, I stopped by today and wanted to give these tamales a shot. Mind you, tamales are my all time favorite thing! So I'm pretty versed in this arena. I must say, these were very very good! Along with the tamale, of course I had to get some street corn, and it also, was great! I'll definitely be a faithful lunchtime customer, and hopefully they don't leave this area anytime soon. My wife got food fr The truck. Tamales but they were awful. It was like eating the dryest food ever. Worse tamales I have ever had. She even warned the guy at the place Dayi g I know good tamales living g in Arizona for 10 years. She got chicken tamales which is not my choice but that being said I still tried it because he ensured her I would like it. Wrong. The chicken and the masa was so dry. I thought maybe it is me so I gave them to my son. He tried it. Same thing way too dry. I do not recommend this place especially if you ever had real tamales. read more

I literally stumbled upon upon the food truck at the UAB medical center on Governor's today. I purchased a half dozen of tamales and a cup of street corn. At first I thought the tamales were a little experience compared to the price I am accustom to paying in Houston, TX. However, I realize taste and size matter. With the purchase of the tamales I could mix and match the pork, chicken and vegetarian. I chose the pork and chicken. Both varieties were good but the chicken was the best. The size of the tamales is twice the size of those I have had in Houston. All of this made the price ok. The Street Corn was equally as good. I chose the cup since I was driving and sharing the food. Don't let the fact of this Food Truck parked in the corner of an Exxon Gas Station fool you, as the food there is really good. I had a chicken tamale today and it was full of delicious meat. Sure you can find them for less, but you get fatty meat with no flavor too. There is one only one picnic table in the parking lot, so plan to eat in you car. Placed an order for a dozen tamales (mixed green chili chicken and red chile pork), elote on the cob, pico and crema in advance via phone. All was ready promptly and the tamales and elote were packaged separately from the cold items. The tamales were still warm when we got home. My favorite was the puerco rojo- so meaty and flavorful - but both were delicious. The pico was fresh and nicely spiced and the crema was a great balance of citrus and cream. My husband and I finally were able to try these tamales and we ordered one of each with a side of sweet corn. Needless to say the tamales were a little dry but the corn was outstanding. We also tried the watermelon drink and we weren't a fan due to it not being sweet at all. It just tasted like straight watermelon and a water with some type of spice. Stopped by on a whim. Heard great things about it. Mexican food is my all-time favorite. I ordered the combo (with green chile chicken tamales) and a street corn. The combo comes with 2 tamales and refried beans and rice, as well. Ratings by category: Street Corn: It's amazing. I wish I had gotten two. Or three. Tamales: So good! Moist, not dry. Very good with the green chile sauce poured over them and some sour cream. They're kinda small-ish. (About a quarter pound each.) Beans: ‍ I have no idea. They might be really great, but my combo order was served with two servings of rice, instead of one of rice and one of beans. I was disappointed. I really like refried beans with rice. Rice: Meh. It was okay. Not that great. Price/Value: Pretty expensive, for what you get. I get it. The owners have to make a living, and the city probably charges plenty of $$ in food truck licensing, fees, taxes, etc., which has to get passed along to the customers. Service: The lady who takes the orders super friendly and welcoming. The man working the "back of the house" preparing the food was working very hard. They seem like a good team. Ppl were ordering and receiving their food very fast. Final Thoughts: If you like great tamales and Mexican Street Corn, you really can't go wrong here. I'll eat there again, I'm certain. Perhaps next time I'll get a dozen of the tamales and skip the expensive side dishes.
