This led to us searching for a bridge care solution until our spot in line was called. Insert Buiding Kidz. With only a few weeks until my paternity leave was ending, I reached out to Jackie to see if they would have an opening for him in January. Over those few weeks, we were able to tour the facility and enroll, with Building Kidz fully aware that he would only be there for three months. During those three months, I couldn't have asked for an easier transition to daycare as a new parent. Ms. Rosanna, her team in the Infant room, and any staff we interacted with showed so much love, care, and attention to our son. We loved that we would receive updates on their app, including feedings and how much he ate, diaper changes, and photos and videos of him playing and learning. There is also a messaging system to chat with the teachers during the day. We have even received some art that he created, creating precious memories for our family. Even when he bumped his head one time, we were immediately notified, sent a picture of the injury, and was updated through the day. The pick-up deadline is later than our new daycare, which is nice, although the parking situation outside can become difficult during peak times. This great experience made leaving after the scheduled three months that much harder. We had intended reasons to switch daycares, and it had nothing to do with how Building Kidz cared for our son. If, for whatever reason, things didn't work out at his new daycare, we planned to bring him back.

They didn't ask about my child's specific needs or any tips for his care. I doubt his teacher read his large stack of paperwork before they started his care. My son usually is quick to tell us about all of his meals and when we asked him what he ate at school he said "nothing" and was ravenous when he came home. We were concerned and when we picked him up the next day and asked how he was and how he ate, the lady at the door shrugged and said he was not in her class. We tried calling the office to see how he was and never got past a voicemail. My son seemed to be fine and doesn't appear injured in any way, but I would never know if there was an incident because THERE IS NO COMMUNICATION other than hello and goodbye at the door.

They have tricycles, sand toys, a vegetable garden, swings, a giant play structure, a mud kitchen...the list goes on. The new Director has super creative ideas and a wealth of knowledge when it comes to kids this age. The Co-op structure is brilliant. It really is the answer to the 'village' we all need as parents, but no longer have. If you want a school where you get to know all the other families and their kids, and create lifelong friendships, this is the place for you. I've also learned a ton about my own kids (my 2nd just started at PCNS this fall) - how they operate in their first real social group, what their challenges are, etc. AND I have learned plenty about parenting, from watching how the teachers handle big feelings and tricky situations, to seeing my peer-parents with their own children. PCNS is a play-based school, and what the children really learn is how to interact with each other socially, and appropriately in a classroom. All of the PCNS Alumni that I know are now in Kindergarten and TK at local schools are thriving. It's a lovely school and an absolute gem in Pacifica.

We have never had any issues with the staff at Milestone. All 3 of my kids along with my nephew are very vocal and have strong personalities. They will be the first the tell us if they got in trouble, if the teacher told them not to do something, etc. My kids absolutely adore the teachers there and loved attending. I have been by to pick them up or drop stuff off to my kids at various times during the day and have never witnessed anything inappropriate. The staff goes above and beyond to communicate with my husband and I whether it's an illness my kids are experiencing, a new project they completed, an upcoming holiday party, or to simply just share pictures. If my kids are out of school for an extended period of time due to illness or vacation they always reach out to check on them or even just to say they miss us. At a very young age my kids were taught how to read, write, count, and learn many other skills most kids learn during or after kindergarten. My kids' teachers at their new school always talk about how advanced and smart my older 2 kids and my nephew are. I'm grateful to the staff for the wonderful education and care they provide.

What was especially hard for us was that we weren't told there were serious concerns until about six months in. At that point, the teacher asked to meet with us and told us that he "shouldn't be crying this much at this stage." The conversation felt less focused on how the school could better support him and more like we were being asked how to manage his emotions for them. As parents, that was really unsettling, especially given how young he was. There were also other moments that didn't sit right. We were told our child was crying during an overstimulating freeze game because it seemed like he "didn't want the other kids to be happy." On another occasion, when he was upset, a teacher pretended to call us in front of him and then said it went to voicemail. Those approaches felt confusing and absolutely not appropriate for a toddler. Our son also learns by observing first, but he was often pushed to participate before he was ready, without much flexibility to let him ease in at his own pace. We also had concerns around communication. For example, we were told sunscreen had been applied during outdoor time, but when we checked the bottle later, the seal was still on. His small wins also often felt overlooked and brushed off. When he completed projects or showed progress that felt meaningful to us, those efforts didn't seem to be encouraged. Looking back, there were other things that gave us pause as well. There was no waitlist and very few children in the class, which didn't stand out to us at the time but now feels like something we should have paid more attention to. When we ultimately decided to withdraw him, what stood out to us was that no one asked why. There was no follow-up from the teacher or director, no conversation about our concerns -- just a short message with the financial details. Two months after leaving, our son started at a new school, and the difference was immediate. Within just three days, he was happy, comfortable, and excited to go to school. He is thriving in an environment that better understands and supports him, which confirmed for us that the issue was not our child -- it was the care and environment. I'm sharing this so other parents, especially those with sensitive toddlers, can ask very specific questions about emotional support, communication, and how concerns are handled.

Why would you give me a tour just two days ago in September, and then say that I can't have another one until the next year? "That's when the waiting list opens"....got it. I was promptly hung up on. So now it comes time to tour again. We come back and make an appointment over the phone. The school is a school but...the people just don't seem like they care at all. The tour was so lackluster. It took all but like 15 minutes. I've spent more time looking through a grocery store. I don't think they're paid enough to give tours, let alone look after your kids. I've seen high schoolers give better tours at the children's museums. I could have been guided around with a lifeless robot. Hell, if robots could critically think, then they would be like, "...Damn. You're making me look bad." The ratio is 7-8:1, at the toddler age. It's ideally supposed to be 5-6:1. I guess the school is affordable, but it seems too good to be true. It's too affordable for something that's supposed to be Montessori, so I'm suspicious. RESPONSE: "...genuinely wonder if your review may have been intended for a different school." Does your version of Montessori teach children to deflect and gaslight to protect a narcissistic ego?

My husband and I are both happy with the childcare that Young World has provided for our kids. Our daughter (4) and son (1) have been attending the school since they were infants (at 8 months and 6 months). We appreciate the fact that the kids follow a daily schedule and have a routine. We also like the curriculum that the school provides. Over the years, we have seen our daughter develop mentally and academically. Thanks to the teachers there, she has learned a lot. She's learned her shapes, alphabet, numbers, colors, writing, etc. Aside from the curriculum, the kids have a bit of fun too. They play outside in the playground and do a ton of art projects. During holidays, kids will get to celebrate (dress up for Halloween, Easter egg hunt, etc.) Pre-Covid, the school would bring in performers (magicians, lion dancers, etc.) and the kids would also put on a yearly Christmas show for family. The school also just started using an app where they send photos/updates and messages to parents so you can keep in touch with the staff and see how your child is doing. Sure, we have seen staff turnover, but there are a few teachers who have been there since our daughter started. It's great to know that these teachers are now watching our son. Both kids do come home sick occasionally, but that's just the nature of going to school. The school does do a deep cleaning at the end of the week. Now with Covid, they are even taking more precautions to make sure everyone stays healthy and safe. Overall, we have been happy with Young World.
