Made the best out of a COVID-19 situation... outdoor seating, great ambiance and great food! Definitely give it a shot if on LBI!

My son had stopped in a few weeks ago while down for the weekend and he told me I HAD to go with him for the Crab Legs. So off we went and managed to get a table right away. How we did that I'm still trying to figure out. Ordered the steam pot featuring mussels, peel and eat shrimp, clams, corn, carrots, potatoes, a piece of sausage and a couple of ginormous King Crab Legs. Everything was fresh and tasty. The Crab Legs were AMAZING! I wish we had the guts to order the Chowder Fries...next time for sure. Just go and enjoy yourself. read more

I was down in LBI for a couple days visiting my parents who rented a house for the week. We decided to give Terrace Tavern a try, and I am glad that we did. I knew ahead of time that they had steam pots which I always prefer when eating seafood. I ordered the Rajun Cajun pot which is loaded with 2 types of crab, shrimp, clams, mussels, andouille sausage, corn on the cob, and potatoes. If you order this for yourself (like I did) prepare to be in a food high afterwards. It's ALOT of food. Once you get down to the clams and mussels it really seems like they never end. Everything tasted incredibly fresh from the crab down to the corn on the cob. I highly recommend getting a steam pot if you venture into Terrace. The decor was modern, contemporary, and didn't seem Beach like but it was okay because it was clean, the beer was ice cold, and the waitress was really nice, attentive, and had a perfect smile. Went here 2 years ago it was amazing. Just left there 10 mins ago... food was awful. We should've known the rest of the food was gonna be awful when they screwed up nachos. I could've made better nachos in my microwave and saved ourselves a couple hundred dollars. Clams on the half shell smelled fishy, tasted fishy. It was my first time at Terrace Tavern.... lived in The area for 16 years and I'm Sorry to say it was my first BUT IT WONT BE MY LAST!! I am so impressed with the service and food. As a daughter of a restauranteur, I am hard to please and notice many things that most may not even think about, but many times I said to my fiancé how great everything was and the attention to detail even though it was a packed house I felt like we were extremely well taken care of, Jill and Janet and all the staff were amazing to say the least! I have to say, Jill and Janet were also very proud of the establishment as they raved about the food choices we got, very knowledgeable of all the items, very quick to fill our drinks, very friendly and accommodating. If I was their employer, I would be very proud of them and the way they rave about the restaurant and care for each guest, and as a patron I'm proud and impressed too! Seriously, I was extremely impressed!! I walked out last night saying I have to leave a review because everyone should know how great it is! We got- oysters, street corn, broiled seafood combo, Caesar salad and pizza and we loved it all! This place will definitely be our go to from now on! The atmosphere and band was amazing too! LBI is great but we have had poor service by wait staff during our stay in 2019. Sadly, mediocre service is what we experienced at Terrace Tavern. We were a party of five and sat at a six top on a weekday night with no wait. Despite the size of our table we felt very crowded because the staff did not clear appetizer plates and unnecessary flatware, glasses, and silver from the table. This restaurant feels like a sports bar with TV's on the wall, a bar, and tables lining the exterior wall. The noise level is high, meaning it is a bit hard to have a conversation over the noise. The food was good but I felt it was a bit pricey, especially for mediocre service. I would not run back to this restaurant. P.S. Our bill was in excess of $200, with only one adult beverage for the table. read more

Wow. My dad and I had an awesome time at The Backyard at the Terrace Tavern. Happy Belated Birthday drink! The decor is awesome. The atmosphere is chill and fun - yet safe. I'm pretty positive it's the cleanest and safest place to have a drink and food out during a pandemic! Everything is so well thought out! The hostess is making sure everyone follows the rules in a very polite way. The drinks were off the charts and the food was insanely delicious. We had the black and blue mojito and the rusty scupper to drink. Both were perfect... probably the best mixed drinks I've ever had out. No, definitely. The crab cake (gluten free to boot) was next level. Again, easily the best crab cake I've had.... ummm.. everrrr! The crab nachos- forget it. Those huge pieces of lump crab, that sauce... After years of hearing great things, but rarely venturing north of bay village, we figured we'd give Terrace Tavern a try. We were only disappointed we waited so long! The food was delicious. We ordered a number of appetizers, all really good, especially the steak bites. My crab clusters were just what I was craving, my husband's shrimp was perfect, my kids loved their fish and chips, and pasta. Good beer selection and kid friendly frozen mocktails. We decided on the terrace after looking at a menu in our rental and it looked really good! We get there to see the ownership has changed and the menu was totally different. We Decided to try it anyways...First, they have excellent crab chowder!The Mahi tacos were horrible! The fish was so dry but according to our waiter, that's what the sauce is for...lol. Fish and chips were good. Mahi wrap, same dry fish but in a wrap, softshell crab po boy was a 10 on looks but a 4 on flavor. It was very salty. All in all we spent a whole lot Of money on a meal that wasn't too good and that hurts. Also...a note to the waiter, who was very friendly BTW, please don't clean the table while people are still sitting there. Walked into the outside tent area to meet friends that were there for a few hours. Sat down at an EMPTY table that apparently was empty for a long time. The manager came out and was beyond nasty going on and on that we couldn't seat ourselves when not one of us said a word and immediately got up to give the table to someone else. I just left this place and the bartender was the rudest person I have ever encountered. The female manager is even worse. We ordered two drinks and apparently the bartender did not hear our drink order. When we told him this is not we order he cursed and proceeded to throw the drinks in the sink. He continued to curse at us and jumped over the bar wanting fight us. The female manager did not try to fix the situation and said she backed the bartender. Every other patron said we were right and the other bartender agreed as well. The only one who acted professionally was the bouncer outside, who was also called into to try to control the situation and the bartender. Will never patron this place again!! Truly not worth your time or money. Two stars because my first visit was so-so and I loved the crab legs, but my boyfriend definitely was not a fan. Happy hour service is sad despite having numerous bartenders working and having a very limited menu. We sat for an hour and a half just to sip on soda and eat the wrong order of clams. This was our first time here. Our meal was fantastic! The bartenders were great and Our waitress Maddie was excellent. However I would never recommend this place to anyone based off of an interaction with a nasty employee on our way out. We were exiting what we thought was the back exit to the backyard when someone started screaming Hey Hey Hey confused I turned around and was greeted by the nastiest employee there screaming "you can't exit this way". Which I sincerely apologized and said oh sorry as I didn't realize this wasn't an exit since it required by law OSHA that there should be two exits... Then this employee blocks me from turning around to exit the correct way after I apologized? So you just scream at me that I can't exit through the back exit required by osha but then you are blocking me from exiting to the front after I apologize? That's confusing.. anyway I then exited the front way and as I am turning to get my bicycle she opens up the gate and starts screaming at us again. Completely unnecessary as I already apologized for exiting the "incorrect way". She treated us as if we didn't pay our bill after we just spent over $100 at this establishment. She then starts screaming at us that we aren't allowed to park our bikes there- this was our first time visiting and we just parked our bikes where there were multiple other bikes parked... if you aren't allowed to exit the back there should be a sign "no exit" and if you aren't allowed to park your bikes where there are other bikes parked there should be a sign "no bike parking". After a very enjoyable experience this very rude employee just ruined it. We were very nice customers saying please and thank you with two little kids not causing a ruckus or being rude so this women's attitude was absolutely unnecessary. I could understand if we treated our servers poorly or were being loud but There is a way to talk to customers- all she had to say was excuse me I'm sorry this isn't an exit instead of screaming "HEY HEY HEY" and coming out the gate to scream at us again when all she had to say "oh I'm sorry our bike rack is actually around the front". This woman must be on a power trip for no reason and clearly doesn't know how to talk to customers and is going to lose this place a lot of business. All I can say is WOW. We went tonight to sit at a high-top and watch the Giants game. What a mistake that was. First of all, I ordered the Clams Casino Linguine without peppers. They came with anyway. Oh well, not a big deal -- didn't say anything. I ordered my second blueberry mojito. The waiter came back and apologized for the delay, the bartenders were really into the game. Okay. Whatever. It was fine, until I was finished with my meal and my drink had still not arrived. It came after the meal and the waiter apologized. All was well until we payed the bill. I had asked to speak to the manager about my dish and my drink delay, but to no avail, the drunk bartender came to speak with me. I asked, "Are you the manager?" He was drunk off his ass. We watched him take at least 3 shots within the time that we were seated. He replied that he wasn't, but that he was the most senior person there. I explained the situation and he replied that he would take the drink off the bill. All was well again, until we were told we were required to pay by cash only due to their credit card machine not working. This was after we had requested the bill. My spouse went to get money out of the ATM at WAWA, we payed our bill at the counter, and the same bartender that was the said "Manager" proceeded to THROW all of our money back at us across the bar. We started collecting the money, and began to leave. He SCREAMED at us across the bar, "WHERE ARE YOU GOING." We were so confused since he had thrown the money back at us, we approached the counter again and paid. We will NEVER return. We were considering doing our Rehearsal Dinner at the Terrace Tavern next month, but due to the service, spend your money elsewhere. Went to LBI to enjoy the corvette car show. Got hungry and ran into this funky little Joint!! In a great way, I mean their food is excellent and the owner and staff are top notch!! My hats off to you Mr and Ms. Sweeney!!! My husband had a soft shell crab sandwich and I tried the Clams Casino, truly a winner. The topping was very light, moist and the clams were not diced and then returned to the shell with too much bread filling like some places do. And the clams were clean, no sand. I had terriayki wings too. Very good. Wings were not over cooked or over sauced. We were treated like we were old friends. Give this place a try if you swing through LBI! read more

I have been a huge fan of this restaurant forever. Today I took my family out to enjoy the atmosphere and food. I feel like I was raped. I had a dinner for 4 and only a few cocktails to a bill of $260. I am sorry you lost money in the pandemic but you just lost a lifetime customer. The portions are smaller and the prices tripled.
