It's always…read morebeen so much fun to go and make memories, take pictures with beautiful backgrounds and such awesome fun...but today when we went, I thought why even waste our time anymore!? I had to take my walker down the handicapped ramp, which was a lot easier going down than coming back up! My granddaughter was so excited. I had two of my son's with me, my daughter, her husband and Kirie, my bright and energetic ray of sunshine. She just couldn't wait to get down the mountain to play on the big toy and put her feet in the creek as we have always done. When we got down there the first we noticed was the big play place had been taken down, nothing left but a big sand pit. We thought we'd take some pictures on the bridge and head on over to the waterfall and cave to play in the water. For generations people has been coming and enjoying the cave. Years of fun and fond memories have been made here. There was already people on both sides of the bridge in the smaller creek bed playing so we merged on. Up the mountain we saw signs posted and a big wooden fence blocking the waterfall and cave!? What is this? A fence? Why? For years kids have enjoyed this place, I've never known of anyone ever hurt here! I felt that new people have come in with their fancy signs and fences, taking away the swings and slides and leaving us with nothing. We got to the second bridge and my kids went to check out the pond. There were more people in the pond swimming, which was nice to hear..at least they haven't robbed us of all the watering spots...so we had wasted a trip. Why not work on making those bridges sturdier? My son-in-law found loose boards that's more hazardous to our safety! I knew those were the same bridges from over 20 years ago because I found the same names that were carved into them from back then. If they are so worried about safety, start there! Not get rid of all the good stuff! I couldn't make it across the second bridge so I waited for everyone to come back and we started heading back to the vehicle. It's so hard for me to get down here anymore, I don't know if I'll even try it again and absolutely not with its present state. My granddaughter was so unhappy, everyone was just so upset we spent all this time for nothing. We'll find another park to take her to I just think this is such a shame, the condition of this one and the loss of more memories. It's just so sad.

There are so many places to camp throughout all of the roads by the lake. The south side of the lake is more of the park area the north west I would say is more residential people. All I can address is Sunset beach, as it is the only place in the park we visited. There are 5 cabanas on the beach that you can rent. However, if you don't want to pay to rent the cabana there are plenty of shade trees to set up under. So bring that hammock and relax! The beach is undead a sandy beach and it is safe to walk barefoot on as there is not any glass. Yay! We had a kayak and were able to use it right off the beach area. If you're in the city and need a place to go on the weekend you should check it out. Just remember, although a sand beach this is not Florida, this is Oklahoma. For Oklahoma this is a nice beach area

I've lived around this lake all my life and have basically grew up spending all my summers here…read moreeither camping or swimming. There was a time we lived right by the dam and Overlook. We fished almost daily and was able to fill up our freezer. Things have changed a lot here since I was young. Today we came out to go swimming. It was quite windy but it didn't stop people from coming out to swim. The beach looked packed with swimmers. We also saw a lot of campers filling up the campsites. The guard shack was removed and so it is free to swim right now. Everything from the restrooms to the beach looked clean and kept up. There is also still life jackets for those young swimmers or others that can't swim too well. Our little grandkids had fun dogging holes to sit in or castles in the sand. We spent about 3 hours here today but have already made plans to come again. On our visit to the Overlook we found out this Saturday they are still planning to have the July fireworks over the water. It's a beautiful sight for those who haven't went, but you want to come early enough to find a good seat or parking spot.
