This KOA was a nice place and just off the 40. We stayed overnight. No concrete slabs but it was level enough for us. The trees didn't block our satellite dish, which was nice. The grass in front of our rig had dog poop so that was disappointing. They have a building where registration is, pool table, store with camping items to purchase and a cozy bar area. We ate there and had the wings. They were delicious. The servers were all very friendly. We would come back and support another KOA.

    And the lot.

The campground has two areas. One is lovely the other is not. The costs are the same. No shade, tables, no space. I'm attaching the views from Mt camper door.

Great KOA! Friendly staff, shady pull thru sites with full service. Awesome K-9 dog park with a nice swing for the people. Office offers food to include Hunts Bro pizza, burgers, wings, nachos, etc. Right off of I-40 - easy off and on the interstate. Pool is currently closed due to COVID. Would stop here again!

Sites all had a little grassy lawn area and were a bit further apart than some other KOA's.

It was ok. It looked old and a little run down. The bathrooms and the showers could have been cleaner. Good for 1 night.

Great campground to stop at, right off the main highway. Very small but the facilities were clean. An easy spot for a one or two night stay.

There is also a free boat launch at the lake so worth the short drive from the campground if you are a boater.

The U.S. Forest Service Administrative Office is west of town on State Hwy 47. The staff there are extremely friendly and helpful. Be respectful and you should have no issues at all, no matter if it's your first hunt or you're a seasoned vet. Black Kettle WMA covers 30,710 acres near the town of Cheyenne in Roger Mills County. Located in the mixed grass prairie, it is a mixture of rolling sand hills, red shale hills, and wooded bottoms. The late-season offers good opportunities for white-tail deer with a good area of coverage for stalking and blinds, but minimum availability for tree stands from what I saw. There are also a lot of controlled burns in the area from what I could tell. Upland sites are vegetated with mixed grass species including big bluestem, indian grass, little bluestem, side-oats grama, and buffalo grass and brush species like shinnery oak, sagebrush, and sand plum. The red shale hills are dominated by shortgrass, sagebrush, and occasional mesquite trees. The wooded bottoms are dominated by cottonwood, elm, and hackberry trees. The average annual precipitation for the area is about 24 inches. I went just a few days ago and it was nice and sunny, but fairy breezy for the antlerless season. We are talking 20mph winds + The sunset is about 5:29 but because of some area vegetation it seems to get darker a bit early so keep that in mind. Management efforts focus on producing native wildlife foods such as ragweed and sunflower, although some small agricultural food plots are planted annually. This makes for a good hunt if planned properly. Wildlife water is made available on most units. Primitive camping is allowed on entire WMA in accordance with US Forest Service, Black Kettle National Grassland regulations. Three developed camping areas are also available including Skipout, Spring Creek, and Black Kettle; no RV hookups available. Lodging and restaurants are available in Cheyenne. No shooting range available. Fishing Opportunities are limited to Spring Creek Lake (60 acres), Skipout Lake (60 acres), Black Kettle Lake (80 acres), and several small ponds. I really enjoyed my time here and plan to make this an annual location to hunt. I'm looking forward to turkey season for sure. Not sure which property it was (but it was 100% private as a lot of adjacent land is in that area, so always check the interactive map and when in doubt, contact the WMA as maps can change and be outdated, even online) but I spotted a good 50-60 turkeys who's interest were perked as I let out a call, so I'm sure they've seen some activity. Be safe, have fun and happy huntin!
