I finally realised how old and uncool I was when found out that a new Sainsbury's Local was being…read morebuilt at the end of my road, and the discovery was basically the highlight of my week. Admittedly the prospect of being delivered from the evils of the nearby Tesco Express would probably be enough to raise most people's spirits, but it was with a rather unhealthy level of longing that I gazed upon the wooden facing that for a few weeks shielded the work going on inside. The Sainsbury's is now open, and, unsurprisingly, it's OK. Nothing amazing, but it's definitely an improvement. For one thing they sell coffee filter papers, but their stock in general is more wide ranging. I even managed to buy hollandaise sauce in there, although I wouldn't recommend hollandaise out of a jar, it turned out to taste of jellied vinegar. They have more service points than the Tesco too, and the cherry on the cake is the free cashpoint. Until that one arrived it was a good 10 minute walk in either direction to get to a free cashpoint, which meant a lot of money was wasted on buying small items in the Tesco in order to get cash back.

The array of exotic fresh herbs and spices is impressive, but they also do a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables and dairy products, which are as locally sourced as possible. They also have an extensive range of special diet products - for example, gluten free, vegan and vegetarian products, and organic baby food. Prices vary hugely, though: pittas are very good value, for example, but some other items are more expensive. But with such a wide range it is unlikely you won't be able to find what you want. The main downer - as others have said - is the staff, who vary from friendly to downright dismissive. The other particular gripe is the awkward queuing system, that means that on every visit, someone who has arrived later has ended up getting served before me.

These days however, I find myself going out of my way to buy my fresh fruit, vegetables and store cupboard favourites from other neighbourhood eastern and international stores. Their produce is still great but their current customer service gets a definite thumbs down from me. The staff on the shop floor are friendly enough but the women behind the till are either cold and unhelpful or plain rude. I've had my groceries thrown and dropped into my bag so many times, I've lost count. I've talked to other female friends who have recieved the same thousand yard stare too and decided to stop shopping there altogether. Ladies - how about showing some love instead of all that A.T.T.I.T.U.D.E?

This Tesco Express has a range of goods but be aware that they're more expensive than at the Tesco supermarkets. I have to confess to buying cheese straws here for staff at work but I shop at the other shops on Craddocks Parade for my other grocery needs - William Dyer butchers for fantastic meat and pies, Card's across the road for my fruit, Allison's bakery for pastries and Stems for flowers. Even in a small parade of shops, you can find local independent businesses selling better quality stuff with more variety. So, please support them! To be fair, Tesco also offer a cashpoint service (provided by Royal Bank of Scotland), which is convenient. I mainly posted this review because of the sign I spotted on the door, which may explain some of the recent riots we've witnessed. Tesco have a big warning sign to any potential robbers on the door, advising them of a smoke system which will deploy if they enter the premises and Tesco have to explicitly say that they won't be liable for any injuries. As far as I'm concerned, if you break in anywhere, you lose all rights. If you break your leg in the smoke, tough. If the big German Shepherd guard dog bites you, tough. If the shopkeeper gives you concussion with a baseball bat, tough. It's time the lawyers, judges and politicians get on the side of the victims.

Before…read morebeing taken over by Waitrose, this used to be a Co-op and it was a fairly depressing place to shop, but now it's a Waitrose it's become much more pleasant. The most enjoyable aspect of this shop is that it is reasonably quite. It's not full of hoards of people like Asda and Tesco. Obviously, the quality of the food is of a high standard although I do find that the fresh produce can go off quite quickly. It's a little more expensive than other supermarkets so I don't exclusively shop here, but bargains can also be found with the Waitrose Essentials range. There is a pharmacy, dry cleaners and two coffee shops on site, and if you register for a My Waitrose card you can get a free tea or coffee every time you shop, plus a free copy of the monthly magazine - who doesn't like a freebie?! Parking is generally easy and I even manage to get a parent and child space on most occasions. There are also plenty of trolleys so you don't need to go searching for one. It's the simple things! Another plus point of this store is that you can order from John Lewis and pick up here which is pretty handy to save on delivery costs.

Spacious, wide aisles and courteous staff (or partners, as they like to be known) make Waitrose an all round pleasurable shopping experience. For me, anyway. Contrary to popular belief, Waitrose isn't snobby or expensive, just has some clever marketing. Sure, they do sell stuff that most people won't want or need (scented ironing water anyone?) But they get the basics right too. Like I said before, if it's good enough for the Queen then it's good enough for me!

They have the second room to the back for permanent bargain stuff or those left off from preveous deals and you can go through a fine selection of some very cheap items. staff are really friendly too.

What an interesting supermarket. It's huge, two stories tall, and has about 40 cashiers. Yup, no…read morejoke, 40 cashiers. You don't see that in the US, and they even have self service! It's a pretty typical grocery store, but it's very large, so guess what? Selection is going to be huge. Also, some things were really cheap. 1 pound for a whole pie? No joke! There is so much here that's it pretty amazing to think about. If you're in the area and you want some food that won't break the bank, then this the spot for you!

The customer services 9/10 is SHOCKING. To the point where I'm so angry thinking about it... I might actually write a letter to the big bosses. The cashiers do not engage with you 9/10... They hardly say hello, they race through scanning as if I'm taking up their time, they mumble the total... I had to LOOK at the screen because all I heard was 57. It was £10.57p. Just basically rudeness, unhelpful, and just no manners. They do not even say thank you! Or when they do, it's a mumble. I get more interaction and fun with the self service and that's saying something! I simply can't be dealing with that. It's a multimillion pound company, invest in better customer service and if you don't like your job that don't make it so obvious! I don't want to make best mates with the tesco staff everything I go in, but come on. Smile!!!! Acknowledge!!!!! The layout it extremely bad as well, you've got a aisle of fruit then veg, then fruit again, the veg. I don't know whether I'm coming or going. It's a joke. Rant ending....Never go unless your desperate... Or there's a zombie outbreak and this store is a safe place to hid.
