I spent May 1 through May 6 in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center recovering from life-saving aortic valve replacement surgery performed by Nishant Dinesh Patel. Every patient in that cardiac ICU is under Dr. Patel's care, and the hospital staff clearly knows the process involved with follow-up appointments and post-operative imaging. My follow-up appointment with Dr. Patel was scheduled for May 14, and my chest X-ray at the hospital was scheduled one hour before the appointment. Dr. Patel's office is literally across the street from the hospital. Instead of simply contacting Dr. Patel's office to obtain whatever referral paperwork was apparently missing, a hospital employee called me on May 13 and unilaterally moved my chest X-ray appointment to Friday -- the day after my doctor's appointment. That was not only illogical, it showed a complete lack of customer service, common sense, and compassion for a recovering open heart surgery patient. Rather than doing the job they are paid to do and coordinating directly with the physician's office, this employee chose the easier route: push the problem onto the patient recovering from major cardiac surgery. Patients recovering from open heart surgery should not have to fight administrative battles or be forced to correct scheduling problems created by hospital paperwork issues. At a time when stress and elevated blood pressure should be avoided, I was forced to deal with unnecessary aggravation because someone could not be bothered to make a simple phone call to Dr. Patel's office. The medical care I received from the cardiac ICU nurses, rehabilitation staff, and Dr. Patel himself was outstanding and compassionate. Unfortunately, this interaction with hospital administration was the complete opposite. Hospitals need to remember that recovering cardiac patients are human beings, not paperwork files to shuffle around for administrative convenience. Nurse Hannah who did my intake, bloodwork and IV was professional gentle and caring. And the Doctor Olivia was able to catch something the other hospital didn't which helped explain why I was feeling so bad off. I appreciated everyone's thorough attention to detail to get me feeling better so I can go home and enjoy Thanksgiving with my family. The girl at the front Lesha was knowledgeable and kind.

They treated both me and my family with the utmost professionalism and genuine tenderness throughout my entire stay. All I can say is thank God I'm not suicidal and waiting on them. A couple tips if you're going to actually go to this office: 1. Don't ever leave a message for the nurses because they will not call you back. You will need to call multiple times and always try to speak to a receptionist in hopes that she will catch a nurse for you but even then it's unlikely. 2. If there are any issues with your billing or insurance (even if you were unaware or it's an issue on the insurances part) the receptionists will rudely announce to the entire waiting room that you are delinquent. I'm pretty sure that violates HIPPA but regardless it's rude and unnecessary. 3. It will take them weeeeeeks to get what ever documentation you need so always plan ahead. I needed a letter for my ESA (emotional support animal) for the airlines and it took me over a month to get it.

Finally things got better. Now, however, I'm 6 weeks of trying to get a simple preop appt scheduled. I go for an appt, then they say I need blood work, a MONTH after getting bloodwork. Ok. No problem. Get the bloodwork (which always takes a week or two) and they say they need an X-ray. Surgery is 6 days away. This is virtually impossible! Why not tell me this 3 weeks ago when you said I needed bloodwork? Why 6 days. 6 fucking days. So now, I'll need to reschedule surgery, reschedule the specialists' preop, reschedule the cardiologists preop. Seriously folks, wtf? How in the fuck can you run a successful business of any type with no communication in house and with your patients?!?! To shove a patients blood pressure through the roof weekly, is flat out ignorant. You're supposed to help, not complicate someone's life for gods sake. And why doesn't yelp allow a zero star review? This place definitely deserves it. If you valued your sanity, your mental and physical well being, and like keeping stress and anxiety low, don't come here!!!!!!! Choose life!
