I was visiting ATL for the weekend and wanted to visit some yarn stores so the Craftivist came up in my research. I saw that they host events for people to come in and work on their fiber arts a few times a week so this sold me on visiting! When I stopped in, I was greeted and there was space for me to sit down. I even got some help on my project. It was so nice to be community with people who love the fiber arts for a little while. I look forward to supporting their business since they also ship!

I recently had a private knitting lesson here…read more The instructor begin with telling me the different types of forms yarn comes in, ie. hanks, skeins and balls along with other information about knitting. After the introduction the instructor picked out a wood circular knitting needle for me. The reason for choosing the wood I was told it would help hold the yarn better for a beginner versus a metal needle. When it came time to choose the yarn I was told to make my choice from a small area. I picked a mustard yarn. The next day I received an invoice from the store because I didn't pay for the items. Silly me. I assumed because I was only allowed to pick out from a certain section that it was included with the lesson that I had paid for. Unfortunately, because the yarn I chose was quite small. It has been difficult as a beginner working with it. There have been a lot of starts and stops which I would expect but more so because of the size of the yarn. I have since learned as a beginner I should have a bulkier yarn. When I left that day, I had not gotten the hang of the cast on, or the knit stitch. Five minutes before the class was to end we had just finished casting on and that didn't leave much time for the knitting since the store was opening. Since taking the class I have been able to get the hang of the cast on and the knit stitch thanks to Sheep and Stitch on YouTube. I think the reason I didn't get the hang of it in the store was because of the teaching style. It just didn't mesh with my learning style. I would definitely recommend the classes to anyone here. Very professional staff. Because the yarn I ended up purchasing isn't good for beginners. I did call the store to see if I could exchange it, but I was told they would not accept it because it had already been wound. The staff was very nice. They were very helpful when customers came in.

Atl Glassworks has extremely high prices for basic things that you can learn online. I have always…read morelearned better in person so I booked a class figuring it would be an investment in my craft. I suffered a severe emergency and missed my class and following up with the company as soon as I was able to and was told that I can get zero refund or reschedule. So I am out $200+ dollars. I understand small business cant take a loss on the supplies but it isn't like they couldn't be used in another class. A full or partial refund or reschedule would've helped me a lot in a time of need due to the emergency. I realized just how easy it is to learn online and will be going that route. 1/10 overall. Edit to update: 50% off of a future class????? Like I'm going to come back when you can't give some grace for a mental health CRISIS .. not a "mental health day". I was not in a state to notify ahead of time or I would have. I didn't just forget to put you on my calendar. Just because you're a small business doesn't mean you shouldn't treat people like people if anything you should more so. That is what makes good word of mouth for small businesses. I have plenty of other sources I'd rather get help from. That have good business practice and don't steal peoples money when they're down.

One of the members suggested a PAINT N SIP via Zoon with HAPPY HANDS HAPPY HEART ART STUDIO. WHAT A FUN TIME. What an excellent idea, what an EXCELLENT choice. Since most of us (with the exception of one, can't draw a straight line) we enlisted Sheila (the gifted and most pleasant owner of Happy Hands) to ZOOM us through our December meeting. She mailed our supplies (outline-canvas, paints, brush and plate). Sheila set up the Zoom meeting and she was instantly part of our crazy group. She is talented, patient and walks you through each and every step. What a novel way to rid yourself the COVID19 doldrums than to support this black owned business and have so much fun in the process. Our experience with Chris was ideal: the food was BETTER than what I've had in Thailand. Chris included everyone in the cooking process with clear direction and was great at giving us the little tricks and tips that we will need to be successful when we do this at home. He also allowed the evening to have a natural flow that made this a really fabulous bonding and fun time for my team to get to know one another outside of the office or a loud restaurant setting.
