I fully intended to come back for dinner, but everything on the menu sounded good and I had skipped lunch. I opted for a burrito to take back to the hotel with me. When I got back to my room and opened up the bag, I couldn't believe how big the burrito was! Wow. As for the flavor? It wasn't bad, but it wasn't quite Mexican food. It's kind of a fusion .. of what, I'm not sure. Regardless, it was a good burrito, the salsa was okay - not great. Chips were disappointing (store bought). I know I'm spoiled being from Southern California, I'm used to getting freshly made chips at most restaurants. I'd definitely eat here again. Expectations have been appropriately managed.

Fish and Chips (what, is that Mexican? or Texan? nope just generic) - tick. It's a massive space as well, and when we were there, there were only 4 other tables. Which made it feel like one of those towns on the Mexican border, where tumbleweeds are blowing and the townsfolk are hiding behind swinging doors. Them ones. Yup, just really average, and really boring. Didn't like this brand of tequila 'n' Tex 'n' Mex very much.

I ended up going to just before a show at the Apollo…read more My first impression was surprisingly quite good, I loved the decoration but had a moment of panic when I saw the Asian looking waitress. No time to waste, we went anyway. My friend and I both ordered Tacos and had a free garlic bread because of Apollo tickets. We had two tiny slices of bread... One each. Not very generous! As for the tacos... Pointless. Not spicy. just chicken and salad basically. I could have done it better myself.

My boyfriend and I stopped in here looking for a quick bite before seeing Penn and Teller at the Apollo. It looked kitsch but in a funny way, like an old Disney cartoon before they became self-aware. We decided to take it for a spin. This place is definitely a hole-in-the-wall, but seeing one single waitress who struggled with English and looked completely confounded when I had tried ordering in Spanish (didn't even know the correct pronunciations of the dishes) at 6 pm in the evening was a little depressing. I ordered the sopa azteca and tacos (pretty hard to go wrong there). My esteemed companion ordered potatoes and grilled salmon. The sopa azteca was ok (read: edible), and honestly I was so hypnotically enthralled by my ice cold Corona that I wasn't too bothered by that. The potatoes were soggy, though the salsa was very fresh and good. The tacos were.. sad. Limp and not very spicy, with iceberg lettuce and those kind of tomato slices you sometimes see in restaurants but have never found in your own kitchen that are more white than red. I don't know how else to describe it but "sad," which is so far from the vibrancy I have come to expect from Mexican food. The salmon was passable, not "blackened" as the menu described. Much to our frustration, however, was that it came floating on a high tide of more of these mushy potato chunks that were identical to the starter that had been ordered. So, basically my boyfriend's dinner consisted of lots and lots of really mediocre potato chunks, and a reasonable hunk of salmon. It was something a server should have noted in the order, since the menu didn't even mention the potatoes in the salmon dish. Things took a turn for the worse when we needed to go and make the show, and the server was overwhelmed by most of the other patrons with the same intention. It seemed that her solution to this problem was to stand in the bar and not acknowledge anyone she was supposed to be serving. It got to the point where we finally got up (with two other parties also attempting to leave), and just stood in line for her to run our cards. Normally, such a circumstance would have left me mortified - I really hate being that sort of guest, and I will often choose not to even go to a restaurant unless I think there is time for something leisurely. Nevertheless, this server was being ridiculous, the £40 needed to change hands, and we needed to get the heck out of that dive. All in all, I really wouldn't go back for anything except perhaps another ice cold Corona. It was a pretty sad food experience.

Its fairly cheap with the usual meals on the menu. Personally Im not a big fan of the dishes that all taste the same but are presented differently; which to me is Mexican food. It has nice interior but a little bit like a macdonalds look. It wasnt very busy at all but the service was still quite slow. We were enjoying the many jugs of cocktails but some of our table thought they were deliberately not serving our food on time so we would drink more. When the food did come out it was hot and nice enough. I had a very small salmon with salad and fries. The end result was a hefty drinks bill and free cocktails!

AND there was discounts on cocktails. Perfect. It did not live up to the expectations. The nachos, admittedly LOADED with toppings, were a tiny portion and were only about 10 on the plate. Mains were divided. I had fajitas. A classic, and it didn't disappoint. Came complete with a whole little plate of various toppings including extra peppers to spice it up. My companions RARE steak however, was barely even pink, and certainly had no blood in it what so ever.. Which I'm pretty sure constitutes as a medium, if not medium well. We told the waiter and he offered to cook a new one. We were off to the cinema so didn't have time really and my companion ended up helping me with the fajitas - pretty huge portion to be honest. The waiter offered a free cocktail to compensate. Fair call. And exactly what should be done, I think. This would all have been amicable, had the waiter not be chewing food while talking to us!? And looking over, his fellow waitress was too. And I have a horrible sneaking suspicion that it was the sent back steak that they were munching on! We did not stay for dessert. Upon leaving, we saw a new display had appeared in the doorway of the special of the day - 'steak salad'. In case you think to try it, I will warn you that it looked more like 'burnt tyre rubber salad'

I am a local person, and this place is for locals but they are downright snooty and stuck their nose up when we sat down. One woman refused to share a massive table she was hoarding to herself. It's a real shame as there is nowhere for me to call my local watering hole, especially since the horrible gastropub makeover at the Grove Park hotel. Since the refurb, the menu has changed, to more gastropub style. I did notice they do an enticing Eggs Benedict along with the other breakfasts, but due to my previous experience with the other locals who still haunt this place, I won't be returning.

Benefitting from a generous pavement area, Coyote has a fair few outside tables which helps. Food is OK (quality and range have both shrunk over the years) but you can get a reasonable burger, chicken wings or the like. Frozen margueritaas are a specialty too.

Because the waiter acted so confused when my friend who was there before me wants a drink before I arrived. His movement was so slow i thought he's giving us attitude but I didn't want to raise it cus maybe that's how he operates. he stood there and wait for us to move the utensils away so he can pick up our plate is a bit weird but when he give us a long eye shut when we ask for new utensils, that's when I know he's really giving us sass. I know I sound mean but tbf I don't mind helping the wait staff out but if you just stand there and expect me to arrange the table, you would be a little surprised too, right? Tell me I'm not crazy. The food was alright. Tuna Tostada was almost £10 and it was so small you can barely taste it before you even finish the whole thing. Cochinita pibil (taco) - meat portion was relatively big but each dish only get two tacos so it barely fill me up. Steak taco - steaks are dry but the cheese on top added points to it Carnitas taco - alright. Can't go wrong really. Anyway, I'd really enjoy it if the staff wasn't rude because the outdoor seating with the sun always keeps me in a good mood but it's a shame that the wait staff was not giving.

Unfortunately, that's the best bit of this breathtakingly adequate restaurant. We visited on a Sunday- the only other clientele were families - we were unsure why until the food arrived. Our servers were lovely, fast and attentive. In fact, the food came out suspiciously quickly! Perhaps because it was quiet. But highly commended on the staff. The food though - oh, the food :( . Bland, bland, bland. Guacamole with no flavour, which is quite the achievement. Fish tacos with fried battered fish pieces from the freezer, "burritos" that are actually enchiladas because they're covered in sauce (and still bland). Soft, bland corn chips - It's all fresh - but Tex Mex should be bursting with flavour. I assume this was why it was popular with kids. So perhaps the drinks are great. Maybe it's an off day.
