If you like to make big payments to get ahead on your loan this is not the lender for you. They have a limit on the amount you can pay towards you loan per month, subsequently you'll pay more interest. After being with them for only 6 months we refinanced and when we called to get our GAP refund they informed us that they do not return the GAP payment. So there goes $1,800.00 Not worth the low interest. read more

I have had an account with The Credit Union of Texas since long before they changed the name from Dallas Teacher's Credit Union. It used to be a decent place to do business. Over the years it has steadily gone downhill. There's a reason you won't find a lot of long time employees at their locations anymore. The whole reason I use a credit union is because banks are awful. This particular credit union is no better than the worst of banks. I highly encourage all members to look at their statements. Everyone I've talked to that banks with them also have these charges and said they also have never used it or turned that on. They started charging a monthly bill payer fee. We have never in the history of any of our accounts used this feature. But we've managed to be charged for it every month for over a year. When we realized what was going on and tried to contact them about getting this resolved, they wanted to only refund the last 3 months. Oh, no ma'am, the charge should have never been there. You will refund all of them. They are literally stealing this money from our accounts and trying to be slick about it. That's not an establishment I want to continue to do business with. I went to this credit union because my work has a bunch of ATM's and it would be nice to do deposit and retrieve money. However, the machines at work are outdated and it does the job, it does take awhile to deposit the money as it takes 3 times to get all the money out. When you sign up, you need to have an appointment unfortunately as they turned me away at around 3pm when I wanted to sign up. I came back the next day to setup account To setup account takes around 45 minutes and they give you a bunch of papers for your account all the legal stuff which can be overwhelming. They tell you what you need to have a "free" checking and not have fees. Make sure you ask as there are ones where they charge you a fee if you go below a certain amount. Service was okay. Now the confusing part is setting up your account online as they do not tell you the password to sign up. I had to call customer service and they told me the default one which Believe is the year of your birthdate and last 4 digits of your SSN I believe. Then, transferring money can be tricky as I had to do it on the computer instead as I kept on getting errors on the app. read more

I've been a member of Texans Credit Union since 1965 with a minimum of .001% dissatisfaction. Today while trying to get my online banking Icon set up again which I accidentally deleted I caught Hell while talking to a customer service Rep. The 1st Rep (Wanda) got me all set up to do that after I answered all of the questions correctly that she asked When trying to get my account open there was a prompt to send a code to my telephone (land line which has been on file since 1965/and today it's waiting for ATT to fix the problem with it. I called back to get my land line # changed to my cell phone # on my account & again was faced with more questions for verification. 1 question asked was what was the number on the last check I wrote- couldn't find my check book to answer that question (I'm not a check writer) so, I was denied access again. Called a branch # and was told I failed 2 tries which I explained to them I passed the 1st of questions & was calling to JUST get my cell phone # as my primary # which they already has because I receive text messages from them periodically. My only choice from them was to drive to a branch office to prove I'm the person making a change to my acc't Needless to say I'm yet locked out.. Ooh BTW e-mail account down at this moment Think it's time after 59 Yrs. Membership to transfer my accounts to a bank nearer to where I live?* read more

Hurdle, after hurdle, after hurdle in opening account. Just opened account. Tried first online. They didn't get my drivers license attachment so I went in. Tried to fund account with CC. That seems to have failed. Mgr said tellers could clear up the problem. They couldn't. Wait for manager to finish with another customer. Manager was very helpful in getting account open. Got home, tried to log in. No PW was given to me. Of course, they were closed by then. So I click Forgot PW attempting to get a reset. System fails to recognize my email address. I switched banks recently after using Bank of America and always having so many headaches with them. I was looking for a credit union in my area and had heard great things about Texans. This branch is absolutely great they are always helpful and ready to help with anything that I might need. Horrible customer service. I stopped by at 4:30pm to take care of some banking, only to find all the doors locked with a woman inside who refused to let anyone in (despite posted hours of being open until 5:00) who only passed a slip through the crack of the door with the locations of other branches (even though there was no way to make it to any other branch in time). What use is a bank if the few branches they have close early unannounced? Trust and reliability are critical characteristics of a bank. If I can't even rely on them to at least be open and available during their regular posted business hours, what else can I trust them with? If they can't even get the easy things right (like staying open), then how can I rely on them and trust them with my money? Or anything else for that matter? This is hugely frustrating, unacceptable, and completely unprofessional. I'm closing all my accounts tomorrow. read more

This bank us the worst bank to do business with ever! I'm trying to pay off my auto loan and they cashed my check but it only shows $5,000 available. First they tell me they put a two day hold on large amounts and today they told me it is a seven day hold. Do NOT bank with them if you can help it!! read more

I'm seriously considering closing my account here, it's becoming so annoying. A little background. I do the majority of my banking at a different Credit Union, which I like. But, my husband wanted me to get a small account at a different bank for a little side business I do, so we wouldn't get our info crossed. My other Credit Union is super friendly, and helpful (even when one of my children was living overseas, and they weren't set up for a foreign address, even taking the time to explain to my teenage kids how to use their accounts, how to do online banking.) This bank is a kind of dated and unprofessional looking, and customer service isn't great. The tellers (at least the one I've dealt with the most) seems less interested in giving prompt, warm service, and more interested in whether you've filled out your deposit slip correctly. There are signs prominently displayed telling you it's not allowed to be on your phone, to wear a hoodie or sunglasses. C'mon. Other banks seem to be able to maintain security without being so uptight and unfriendly. But, seriously, it's just a bank. I don't need a beautiful lobby and stellar staff to plunk my check into my account occasionally. What really IS annoying is that EVERY SINGLE TIME I make even the tiniest deposit, they have to ask me, in a pushy, salesman-ish way, if I wouldn't like to get a car loan. No. I just drove up to this bank in a car, I like my car, I don't want to buy a car, and I don't want to have to freaking explain that every. single. time. I run into the bank. I'm usually running errands when I do my banking, I want to run in and run out, and I don't want to have to fend off a pushy salesperson disguised as a teller. Annoying. This morning, I got a little notecard sent to my house, thanking my recent transaction (I deposited some money. That's what you do at a bank), with a business card included in case I ever need any help with anything else. (Hint hint. Like, y'know, that car loan...) Sheesh. It's starting to feel a little creepy and desperate... Is it too much to ask? Are my expectations too high? I just want to run into the bank and make my transaction. I don't want to have to explain myself. I don't want you to contact me. This place is absolutely pathetic. The customer service is ridiculous. Slowest tellers I have ever experienced in my entire life!!! Expect a twenty minute wait, no matter how many people are in line ahead of you. Even if every window had a teller at it, only one will be working, and it makes no difference what time of day you go. One of the the tellers is exceptionally rude, and treats everyone like they're an idiot. Horrible. I've been with Texans since 1982 (when it was Texins - for TI Employees). I've always been a huge fan. However, in the past 5 years it has deteriorated into a horrible banking experience. Their errors are continually resulting in fees for me. Their website and online banking is awful (they even save your security info in browser cache, so any time you clear your cache you have to recertify the whole computer!). I've told them this is not how to store security info, but they don't listen. They have gotten too big and greedy to listen any more. They have shut down most of their locations and I have to drive way too far to get to a surviving ATM machine. The interest they pay is absurd, their customer service is horrible, they search for ways to charge you fees, their website is mediocre, their locations are very scarce (along with ATMs) and I constantly struggle (around unpublished rules) transferring my money between my Texans accounts! I would never have thought it would come to this, but after 31 years with them, I will be closing all of my accounts and giving another credit union my business. read more

I walked in and there were 4 people waiting to be helped, after 5 min of standing there no one said a word about helping me. The customers had to say "is anyone going to help us?" After which the banker said "I'm busy helping the drive thru, you just don't understand" -- after which she proceeded to argue with the customers. This is the third time I have been greeted this way. I just opened an account with them, and went in to make a deposit today. I found it odd that they didn't give debit cards on the spot or offer temporary cards. What a total inconvenience, because cards have to be mailed and it takes up to 2-3 weeks. Are you freaking kidding me?!?!?! I gave it 4 stars because they were nice, and everyone greeted us. I have several accounts with Texans Credit Union and they offer low fees, great account options, credit lines, dividends and low affordable rates on new vehicle loans too. I receive 5 star service almost all the time including when I lowered my auto loan rate with them recently. Felicia at TCU in Carrollton TX did a great job of helping me with a vehicle loan. Five big stars for her!!! Oddly, TCU won't let me cash a check in their office regardless of my balance. That's bizarre. Maybe it was one new Teller? Overall, I give TCU five big stars. read more

I chose Texans because it received a good review here - so I am going to add something to help others out if you are thinking about joining this Credit Union. First - my experiance has so far been less than enjoyable. Their people are pleasant enough, but their policies are just as stiff and unforgiving as those of a bank. I have belonged to MANY credit unions and this is by far the worst one. I will admit - I am spoiled. I was with Velocity Credit Union in the Austin area - and they are wonderful. So it is a bit of a shock to find out that my new Credit Union has no branches in my neighborhood and that most of their branches are horribly difficult to find and have lousy hours. Then you find out that they have no overdraft protection for new members and I don't know anyone who hasn't made a clerical error that causes a problem every once in a while. They don't even extend protection to members with direct deposit. So - if you are looking for a Credit Union that treats you like a human being - Do NOT choose Texans Credit Union. You will be disappointed if you do. read more

Horrible customer service. I recently purchased a new vehicle & the financing is through Texans CU. It is almost impossible to make a payment, I called & spoke with a nonhelpful employee (Yolandia) that clearly does not want to work in customer service. The correspondence we received states "If you are interested in online banking or ACH for direct payments, please contact us at 972-348-2000 or stop by your local branch to discuss." Last month I had some difficulty making the first payment, but after some time/effort I was able to make the payment. This month we will go in person to make my car payment, as calling the number listed on the correspondence does not help, or if you pay by phone (using a checking account) there is a $15.00 charge. This will be the last month we make a payment to them, as I will be contacting my local bank as well as Navy Federal to discuss refinancing options. I do NOT recommend using them for any financing purposes. (FYI- my husband & I have excellent credit, have owned several homes & many cars using various financial institutions and have never had this much difficulty trying to make payments) read more

This has been a hugh nightmare of a credit union, customer service was the first thing I noticed which was horrible someone answered the call on a speaker phone where anyone around them could hear our conversation. This was so uncomfortable for me because I didn't know if they were in a calling center or near a bank lobby & mentioned it to her. The response I got was it's okay my phone headset is broke, ugh! So our our entire phone conversation regarding my person account was on speaker. Another time I walked into the lobby and there were 2 tellers & only myself in line (customer) and the teller nearest me looks directly at me to turn her back and a minute later the other teller ask if they may help me. I couldn't help but feel as if I walked into a business that treated me as if I need them and they were providing me a hugh favor for their services of handily my money. There were another time where I was in the drive-thru and waited over 5 minutes to be told that they forgotten about me LOL'. This unfriendly, outdated, mold smelling lobby, tired fee monster of a bank has one goal only and that is to charge you fees and drain your account without informing you. I opened a checking and saving account and they were over the top trying to get me to refinance may truck and house with them. I'm glad I didn't. I was told there is no minimum balance amount and they never bothered to tell me about an inactive fee. Do they really think I would leave my account open so they could take money each month for inactivity. I would close that account and take my money not let them rob my account dry. Those broke OGs don't send a paper statement each month so you might never know how their sticky fingers are slowly draining your account. For sure no one will inform you from the bank they are too busy taking your money. When you confront them they are smart asses and don't want to help you get back the money they have stolen from you. It's a very low rent bank with low rent employees who don't give a flip about your problem. The loser supervisors don't call you back they are such sorry customer service weaklings. They refused to investigate fraudulent activity on my account. They just don't give a rat backside about you. Don't waste your time with this dinosaur of a bank. Up until Texans installed a new computer system, they were a great place for online banking. Things went smoothly. THEN, they installed a new system with a contractual third-party paying the online bills. Since the new system went in I have been unable to access my account. Calling the help line for the new system meant up to 30 minutes of waiting until the person on the other end was free from other customers who had called in. I would go through the routine, and only be able to enter my account after the system was reset. Then the next time I tried to use the account the new system refused to recognize either my id nor my password. This billing month scheduled payments were made sporadically with some being paid and others ignored. This is the 'exciting new' Texans online banking system! read more

I was with Texans Credit Union for over 20 years. They used to be the best bank out there. But since CEO David Addison took over the bank was run into the ground and had to be taken over by Federal Regulators in April of 2011. Texans was ranked as one of the worst run banks in 2011. In September of 2012 they replaced their online banking system wich has created a lot of problems for their members. All of your automatic payments were lost in the process. No accounts or passowrds were brought over to the new system. Members like me who had the same account for 20 years now had to start over from scratch and create all new accounts. None of the automatic payments were carried over and communication to it's members was extremely poor. Texans was not preparied for the volume of complaints from members so response has been slow or even nonexistent. I had little confidence in this bank when the NCUA took over its operations, but after seeing how this online system was handled I have no confidence in them at all. I am moving all of my banking elsewhere. read more
