It…read morewas my first tattoo, so it took me a bit to land on what I wanted, and I asked a crazy amount of questions. I felt 100% prepared when I walked in to get my tattoo, and felt confident in the artwork Joel had created. The studio was super Zen and peaceful. I never felt uncomfortable or anxious- important for a first tattoo experience. I sat for 5 hours, and Joel constantly checked in with me and allowed for plenty of stops for water and walking. He was also very flexible with the session-making it very clear that we did not have to finish the entire tattoo in one sitting- in the case that I got uncomfortable. We powered through the 5 hours- because Joel put me at ease-and is amazing at what he does. Let's talk about the final product. Amazing. We made some small adjustments to the design once Joel met me in person, but for the most part the size and colors were taken right off of the original watercolor. There were no surprises when we checked in regularly with a mirror, and when I saw the final product, I was thrilled. Joel is a really unique and special artist. I wouldn't expect someone who is so unbelievably good at painting watercolor to also (lucky for us!) be such a talented tattoo artist. The next investment I make in body art will probably be Joel-again. Side note: Please set realistic expectations when you choose any tattoo artist. Any time an artist is taking something as complex as watercolor and transferring it to needle and ink on skin- you should expect some adjustments or modifications. Your tattoo artist is a person, not a machine.

I made an appt online Friday afternoon for Saturday the 22nd to get my upper lip/Medusa done. She positioned it perfect and I like that she asked for second opinions from what I hope is her husband (just because he was super sweet and there were an awesome team together.) This business is run by a person with a complete lack of integrity. I went in back in November 2020…read moreto get a memorial tattoo. Caleb McCombs lied in his portfolio and I believed he was more talented than he turned out to be. When I asked him to fix it he threw a temper tantrum, then agreed with all the grace of acranky toddler, to fix it. When he leaned in to look at the damage I smelled alcohol on his breath at which point I knew I would not ever allow this person to come near me with a needle again. I left and called Kara, the shop owner. She assured me that she would get it fixed. She even, eventually, fired Caleb. However she also began to ignore my messages. She eventually did make an appointment for me to meet with an artist. She then canceled that appointment. She now wants me to track down Caleb and have him fix it. A complete turn around from her original assurances. If it will allow me to post enough pictures I will add screen shots of our conversations. I strongly recommend calling 3 Holes Down instead. The artists there have real portfolios and the integrity you need from a tattoo artist! Check out the pictures and choose for yourself. This is the quality that Kara is happy with!
