My sister-in-law is traveling to Roatán in June and had been struggling to find a place that could process her 1st passport application. The choices were: - pay a crap ton of extra money to a passport expediting company - wait until two weeks before travel so she could personally put her application in at the Houston office (seems stupid) - use the post office... oh wait then she would miss her trip since the 1st available appointments (just to take the paperwork) aren't until July The International office took care of her in minutes! I really don't believe this place even needs my two cents because it looks like everybody else is saying pretty much what I'm going to, and that is that the International Office offers by far the best possible option light-years beyond any place else in Austin, Texas to get your passport. I was at the Mockingbird post office on S. Manchaca Rd. A kind gentleman overheard me attempting to get on their schedule to get a passport through them, which would have been a grave error!! Post office sucks if that's where you are thinking you want to go get your passport. The gentleman informed me that the place I needed to go was the International Office of the University of Texas. He told me he was in and out in 30 minutes, was able to park nearby, and that they had the best possible rate for getting your photo taken right there on the spot. I went this morning, had virtually no wait, everybody was super friendly and super informative. Bottom line, stay the hell away from the post office for your passport and go here. Unless inconvenience, aggravation, and long wait times are your thing. Then yes, saunter on down to the post office. read more

I went here yesterday to get a passport. Although, I really have nothing to compare the process to (as this was my first time getting a passport), the process was so quick and simple -- I was very relieved & impressed! I walked in and the friendly guy at the front desk immediately began to help me. He went over all of the things I would need, I then gave him those things, he took my picture, then I waited maybe 7-8 minutes, paid him, signed my application and I was out of there!! I don't think I was there longer than 15 minutes from the time I walked in the door to the time I left. The only *slight* downside is that there isn't any parking right at the building (or at least I didn't see any). There is plenty of street parking though and there is also a UT Parking garage across the street (No charge if you're there under 30 minutes, $3 if under an hour). The garage is open to the public -- you just need to get a ticket when entering & make sure you pay @ a kiosk or at the office before leaving. read more

Went here for a renewal and was told that I could mail the forms in, myself. However, I did get a photo taken for $12, and asked to have it retaken, without any complaints. The nice lady at the front even went over my application to be mailed, to ensure that I wouldn't have it returned. My original was done at a post office, and I wouldn't hesitate to use this office, over that. Things to keep in mind- check or money order, for the state department. $25 fee for processing with new applications can be paid via cash or credit. Same with the photo. Short lines and walk ins.. I went in and submitted my application on Tuesday, May 19th and got my new passport in the mail today, Friday, May 29th. 10 days. (It might've even come yesterday, but I didn't check my mailbox yesterday.) This office was quick and easy. I had my paperwork filled out, they checked my ID, etc., someone took my photo for $10 (this saved me a trip to CVS or Walgreens, which typically charge $11 or $12 anyway), someone looked over my paperwork to make sure everything was accurate, I paid $184.85 by check to the U.S. Dept, and $35 by card to the office for processing and my picture. I chose expedited processing AND overnight shipping (even though I had a month until my trip, better safe than sorry). This ensured 2-3 delivery. I got it in LESS than 2 weeks (oh, and Monday was a federal holiday!) When I went in, there were 3 people ahead of me. It was 45 minutes between walking in and walking out. Not bad for what I was expecting to be a bureaucratic hot mess. TL;DR Go here. Especially if you need it done well and done fast! read more

Went today to get my kids passports renewed. Very positive experience. Much better than all the horror story reviews you find about doing passports at the post office. It was a bit of a drive from Round Rock, but worth it. We were there about 45 mins total and i think that was fair. They weren't overly busy (we got there at 12:30 on a Thursday) and were wonderfully helpful in explaining and double checking our applications. They even had a tv playing kids shows in the waiting area, which helped. I recommend parking in the public garage across the street, and it only cost $3.00 for under an hour parking. Surprisingly fair. I had taken the kids photos already and had them printed, but they showed me that they weren't quite within specifications, so i psid to have the three kids photos shot right there. They were nice and helpful about it. If you have to get a passport for any reason and you live near Austin, I recommend the UT International office. read more

If you are required to apply for your passport in person look no further. This facility and its staff are worth the drive (even if you live further out like Round Rock, Georgetown, etc.). It's walk-in service only so no appointment is necessary. They can take passport photos on site which can save you making a separate trip. Parking is close by at the San Antonio Garage. Our recent visit was nice and smooth and the staff very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend! read more

All these good reviews have turned into lies because everybody started coming here and now the lines are painfully long with barely any seating. They have one employee doing every aspect of the process for each person and it takes forever. We got here like 5 minutes after 8 (when it opens) and there was a long line already. I talked to some people that came before us and they said they had gotten here way before 8 am and it was locked so they waited in the car and just a few minutes later there was a line outside waiting to be let in. read more

LOVE this place! I tried to make an appointment at USPS, but they said they didn't have anything for 6 weeks! Then I saw this place. They serve UT students and the general public. There was no line at all when I went and it's suppose to be 'busy' season according to the post office. I think there might have just been two people that came after me, but that was it on a Monday at 2:30pm. It's probably because UT is out for the summer. I had come here for my first US passport and was blown away by how quick and efficient the process was! The staff was super helpful and I noticed they even had toys to entertain the little kids who were in the office. I was in and out within 10 minutes and this was such a huge contrast to previous experiences in dealing with legal documents at government agencies. We went to our local post office and they said we had to get there at 7:30 am to sign up to "maybe" get an appointment. Our friend had just told us about this place and said they were fast. So we drove 30 minutes south to get here. They have a parking lot right across the street so that was easy. As soon as we got in, it was super fast and easy. I had already looked up on the website what I needed so it went smooth. Just had to go get a money order from the bank. Luckily I'm with Wells Fargo and there was one up the block. After we went back the process was easy and painless. They even do your photos for $12. Turnover time is pretty fast as well. They did amazing and the customer service was great! read more

Such an easy time getting passports. They're open almost every day, open to the public. We were one of three FAMILIES at the office applying for passports on a Wednesday afternoon. We were in and out with applications and pictures in about 45 minutes. The guys working that day were particularly outgoing or smiley, but they did their jobs quickly and correctly. After having trouble getting an appointment with my nearest post office, I did a little more research and found this place. I decided to give it a try, and I was just amazed. I went in a little after opening on a Monday, and there was no one else waiting. It seriously took me only about five minutes altogether. The staff was very nice and made sure I had everything I needed (they even appreciated that I already had my photocopies, but they will still make them for you). I thought getting a passport was going to be tough, but this place proved me wrong. If standing in long lines at your local post office doesn't excite you, if interacting with "cheerful" postal employees doesn't float your boat or if waiting 6+ weeks for your passport to be delivered doesn't get your juices flowing, then this little gem of a place might be the solution for your passport needs. It took all of 20 mins from the time I parked my car to the time I walked out the door. The staff is courteous and efficient and as long as you have your DS-11 completed and have all your documents in order, the process is quick and smooth. Parking is paid (San Antonio garage) and finding a spot can be painful but even factoring in those inconveniences, you will get your work done way faster than at the post office. And you will have your passport delivered quickly. I received mine in a couple of weeks without placing any sort of expedited request. There are no guarantees here as that depends on how quickly DOS processes the request but you can count on these folks to dispatch your passport and assorted documents to the DOS ASAP. So, get your passport renewed (or apply for a new passport) through this office and then let other folks in on this little secret. read more

This place is perfect. My other attempts at getting passport (at other places): Post office 1: website said you had to make an appointment. Called three times, phone just rang and rang and rang... Post Office 2: Website said you had to make an appoint,ent. Called and was put on hold for 20 minutes, finally hung up. Post Office 3: Said walk-ins welcome. Went and there was a huge line, they also informed me they only took the first 20 people (which I was not one of) Then this place (The International Office) was AMAZING. Go HERE for passport services!!! We tried dotting all of the i's and crossing all of the t's AND getting mom, dad, and minor to the District Clerk's office on 5501 Airport at 8am. There was already a bunch of people there and the front desk wouldn't accept our digital photo and asked for a birth cert when we didn't need one. I was incensed! Then, the lady condescendingly asked if I had looked at their website to get all of the requirements. Of course I did! That is where I knew that they WOULD accept digital photos and did NOT need a birth certificate if you had an old passport!!!! What a PITA, dragging everyone out (missing school, missing work) for unfriendly service by people predisposed to NOT doing their job. Well, rather than argue with people who don't know their own process, determined and furious, I dug in and tried to find another place we could go. Lo, The International Office at good ole UT. They accepted non-students and walk-ins. We were in and out in less than 15 minutes. No wait, nice people. Wait, what? Didn't need the birth certificate, minor was 16, so didn't even need both parents, quickly processed, friendly, knew their stuff, and no wait. What else? Oh, free 30-min parking in the garage around the corner. Yup. I hope that I remember by renewal time (another 5 years?) to beeline straight over here, rather than go to a post office or DMV-esque cattle call. read more

Arrived at 2:26pm on a Friday during spring break and finished at 2:52 (almost 30 min.) The parking garage is a minute and a half walking distance. If you did not fill out your DS11 form prior to arriving, do not worry, they have extra forms in the office! Staff was super friendly, quick, and the wait was not long at all. **Sidenote: Your phone service may not work on the second floor, but a quick run downstairs will get your reception back. read more

I was stunned by how quick their passport renewal process was. I showed up at 1 without a check/ money order but was directed to where I could get that. The bank was only two blocks away and took me no more than five minutes. I spent no more than ten minutes in the office and even took my pictures there. I showed up with all my paperwork filled out, and my money orders (I recommend you do that as well). They were able to take my picture there, and get it sent off. I highly recommend skipping the Post Office and coming here instead for your passport needs. I walked right in with no appointment and was in and out in about 10 minutes. Staff was friendly and office was neat and organized. I originally looked up my local post office on Manchaca, and the web stated I need to call them for an appt. I tried over the course of a week to call and schedule, trying at different times of the day, and they never ever picked up the phone. Finally I drove there and waited in line 20 minutes to make an appt for the following day. The next day I arrived for my appt, and after waiting 10 minutes past my scheduled time, I was told I was missing page 2 of the application. I asked if I could just fill out page 2 really quickly (which would have taken about 90 seconds to fill out) and was informed that they were out of page 2 and didn't have any more copies. Really? So I asked when I could come back, and the next available appt was more than 5 days later. Hey, how about going to the website, Post Office, and printing off some extra forms? Anyway, that same day I just drove down to the office at UT and was in and done super fast. You suck, Post Office. read more
