I love this place. They made my daughters baby shower cake. It was beautiful and delicious. Since then every time she goes to the near by cleaners they have to stop in. My 8yr grandson always negotiates with the owner for either a discount or a 2 for 1 deal. (His pawpaw has taught him always ask if that's your best deal). I can't review the cakes because I didn't order one. Why? Because they quoted me $300+ for a small cake for a baby shower where I told them I only expected 12-15 guests. Granted it would've included fondant, but seriously? I wasn't looking for anything too extravagant, that pricing is completely absurd. Love these cakes, almost any flavor is great. My children and husband love their strawberry cake, but my favorite is the Italian cream. I also love their brownies, cookies and cupcakes. Texas Star Bakery is one of the best bakeries I've ever been to. They do wonderful specialty cakes for birthdays (both kids and adults) and there other desserts are fantastic. Got my hair done at Yellowbrook hair salon and decided to walk over and check out the Texas Star Bakery. Small store, but very clean and inviting. Had several cute cakes in the case, a tasting for wedding cakes was going on, and there were three people in line front of me. They were men ordering cookies and cupcakes for themselves!! I placed my order in less than five minuets. I got a red velvet cupcake, banana cream, and a raspberry bar. The cupcakes were 1.50, which is cheap!!!! I am used to paying $3-6 for cupcakes in Houston. I got all three items for under $5. Didn't eat all of them that day and the items were still delicious and fresh a day or so later. Do not EVER order a cake from this place and expect it to be on time!!!!!!!!! My friend ordered a cake from here 2 weeks ago.....paid a pretty price for it too....cake was not ready when promised. She was told to come back in an hour...I took back up there and it still wasn't ready!!!!!! And there were 8 people waiting in the same situation. But of course there is a lady bragging about the place and she knows the workers and she ordered hers yesterday and she got her's first!!!!!! I guess you have to know people there in order to be taken care of. It may taste good but there are plenty of bakeries in town that taste just as good or better and can produce as promised instead of overselling. Bad bad bad business practice! I purchased a peach pie yesterday to serve to guests today. Big mistake. The peaches tasted terrible, the syrup was so sticky that it was more like gummy bears! The pastry had to be scraped off the bottom of the pie pan with a knife because it was so soggy. No one took more than one or two bites. I will be out of town Monday through Wednesday but will return what's left of the pie on Thursday. I expect to get back my entire purchase price (which was $20 by the way, for one pie). I will return to this website and let you know whether they act responsibly about what they have sold their customers. My suggestion would be to NEVER buy a pie here! read more

Something is different about Texas Star Bakery. The product I purchased does not hold up to the standard of prior years of the goods I've purchased there. Hadn't made any purchases in 10yrs. The value and quality is different. Sooooo disappointing. We did not get what was depicted online as I show. We got a Kroger confetti cake an amature could have done. Definitely, not worth the price. Nothing grand. It had a good taste, but this cake cost me $100 and it should have POPPED. It was NOT worth the price. We hated it. Yes....$100. Look at the pictures. It was the size of a loaf of bread in length. To be fair, I told the manager it was for 7 - 10 people and he suggested a 1/4 of a sheet. I was agreeable thinking we would have a lot of cake to give away. When the mother picked it up, she sent me a picture with emoji tears. I called and told him it was not what we ordered and his response was "We had to redesign it in a smaller size so it was different and the colors had to be made (?don't remember the rest of this foolish excuse)." I explained to him that he should have told me it would be different from what was online. I asked him if the mother who picked it up was satisfied. He said "she loved! it. Wrong. I got to the party and everyone was discussing the cake laughing saying "we need to go into the CAKE! business if you can get away with that!" This is ridiculous. It should not have been over $50 bucks and I'm being generous. What do you say at the counter the day of the event for a 5yr old? I don't want that? NO, but the manager didn't even offer a solution to my dismay. What would it have cost if it was a half! sheet! OMG. They must have a lot of people who don't care about the value of money and just love them for being in our neighborhood at this point. Just go to Costco for value and somewhere else for a design. Ordered a cake and I could have gotten the same thing at Krogers bakery for much less than what I paid for at this bakery. I was told how it was going to be decorated a specific way and it was not what I expected based on what Valerie the person that assist me described. Totally disappointed first and last time to order a cake at this place. There is nothing to brag about in a cake at this bakery, save your money and try even Costco they have better cakes or Krogers, save your money.I beleive in commenting good or bad based on what I get and do not only post bad revfiews. The cake was ho-hum; nothing special about it. I ordered a simple white cake with a superhero theme and paid extra for cream cheese frosting. I knew it was late notice, so I didn't ask for anything fancy. I really appreciated that they took my order on such late notice, but when I picked up the cake, the cashier told me the baker said they normally don't take such orders and next time I should give them more notice. Well, if that was the case, why did they bother taking my order over the phone and tell me it wouldn't be a problem? I shouldn't be scolded for something THEY AGREED TO DO. It's not my fault they mismanaged their time! The cake was lopsided (SERIOUSLY!!!) and the decorations were nothing fancy--just streamers running down the side of the cake. Well these guys must be doing so well that they can afford to ignore customers requests. I contacted them four times, twice by phone and twice by email, trying to get an estimate on a cake and never got a response from them. the second attempt by phone I was told to resend the email but was asked to write "first name last name cake" on the subject line to insure it wouldn't go to their SPAM folder, I did as requested and still no response. At least some kind of acknowledgement would've been appreciated. Sadly, my daughter was disappointed she didn't get her first choice in the cake she wanted, but we searched elsewhere. Wanted cake pops bc it's easy for 2-year-olds than huge cupcakes. She gave me a price ($5-$6 each) and said come in the next day to look at options. I went in the next day and the man at counter (dark shaved hair) was exceptionally rude and acted like I was crazy for even asking for such a thing. They made us a beautiful barbie cake for my mother, who wanted one when she was little but never got one. I picked out a very detailed dress design, and they went above and beyond to make it look stellar. My mother loved her cake, and not only did it look AMAZING, but it tasted AWESOME! I purchased a wedding package with a venue that was to include by wedding cake through Texas Star Bakery. I was told they were great and was very excited to have my meeting with them. The arrangement of the meeting process was an ordeal but finally we set a time. My (future) husband, mother, and I arrived at the dirty little run down looking bakery on time. For about 15 minutes I couldn't even get someone to acknowledge us. Finally, after threatening to leave I was told that someone would be right with us, but not only would it not be who I had bee corresponding with prior, but it wouldn't even be a baker or designer. Finally, this poor girl who was nothing more than an attendant sat with us. She told me to look through their photo books for what I wanted. Not surprised, I didn't find anything even remotely close to what I wanted - Please note: I wanted a very simple fall theme that wasn't cheesy or overdone. That's it - not too much to ask for right? After trying to explain to this girl what we wanted and her running to the back to ask the baker if it this or that would work, I said (again) can we please just meet with the baker? Nope. No can do. At this point I was livid and trying to stay patient and nice because it clearly wasn't this girls fault. We tasted the cake, it was fine but certainly NOTHING special. Nothing more than a grocery store cake - we were finished. All three of us had wasted over an hour of our time and the baker couldn't even take 60 seconds to introduce herself. Aside from the absolutely horrible customer service, the shop looked like a dump. It was dirty, messy, and unorganized. If you want a birthday cake, save yourself the time and go to Tom Thumb. If you want a wedding cake, do anything in your power to stay away from this place. I contacted my venue and said I would ABSOLUTELY NOT be using this place even though it meant I would be paying significantly more for my cake, Texas Star didn't even bother contacting me to apologize for the embarrassingly poor service. read more

Just finished one of their cupcakes and wish I hadn't eaten it. Too sweet!! It was an almond raspberry cupcake. Sounds good, right? But the raspberry filling was like you get in a doughnut and was not tart. Overall the cupcakes and cakes taste like an inexpensive bakery, not homemade at all.
