I purchased my amazing Yorkshire Terrier, Peanut, from Texas Sugar Puppies four months ago, and I am so glad I selected this breeder because I now own a happy, healthy pure-bred Yorkie who is loyal, sweet-natured, and loving. I waited a long time to get a puppy, and I was scared of buying a pure-bred dog because of the puppy-mill stigmata and possible genetic issues. However, after some research, I found Texas Sugar Pupppies, and I decided to take a chance because I love Yorkies so much, and when I called to talk to her about her dogs, she answered all of my questions with ease. I drove over four hours to select a puppy, and thankfully, the breeder, Young Van Roekel, provided a warranty for my dog's health so I could get him checked out (this is a part of her standard contract with clients), so the day after purchasing my puppy, I took him to the vet to have him examined. I had them run blood tests, fecal tests, genetic tests (e.g., liver shunts, kidney disease, PLL, and PRA-prcd tests), and asked them to run any other test they felt necessary to ensure my puppy was in good health. All of Peanut's tests came back perfect, and I was so thankful because my last Yorkie, Chewy, died at nine years old from a genetic kidney disorder. Chewy was a treasure, and I was so sad when he died that I waited five years to get another dog. Honestly, I was petrified of genetic issues and the possibility of watching another dog die young. I am excited that I will have Peanut for a long time, and I am thankful that he is healthy and happy. One of the best parts of purchasing a puppy from Texas Sugar Puppies is that the breeder still keeps in contact with me. For example, she texts me to check on Peanut at least once a month, and she loves when I send her pictures of him. Another benefit to purchasing a puppy from Texas Sugar Puppies is that she provides thinking time. Indeed, when I went to select my puppy, she had four puppies to choose from, and they were inside of her home instead of outside. It took me an hour to select the puppy I wanted, and she let me pick them up, play with each one of them, and watch them play with each other without rushing me. Once I made my selection, she talked to me about his current shots, de-wormer status, how to AKC register my Yorkie, how and when to use nutri-cal, her food recommendations (e.g., small puppy breeds need small-breed puppy food instead of regular puppy food), and vet visits. She was thorough, and I appreciated that she cared enough to talk with me instead of treating me and my puppy like a business deal. I have 2 dogs that I have bought from Young. One is 4 1/2 years old and the other will be 3 years old next month. I have had both of them since they were 8 weeks old and all of their vet checks have been great from the beginning. They have always been healthy, happy little dogs. I wish people would really think about the reviews that they put online. They are really depriving good people from happy healthy companions by posting things that are either untrue or without proof.
