lots of parking lots for cars and trucks and a special area for RVs and coming in hot isn't recommended because of curves and curbs and trees and a three story building and stuff like that... outside are a variety of seating, eating, or walking arrangements. inside is a very nice information center with booklets and brochures and guidebooks and upto a half dozen individuals available to answer your tourist questions and help separate you from your tourist dollars... perfect!! besides that you get the standard rest area amenities in above average condition because the bosses are on premises. it's all tidy all the time inside and out (where the late night mistakes are avoided) and I think that's swell!! read more

As far as tourists centers go, this one is nicer than many. Climate control/ indoor. Plenty of pamphlets on Texas attractions. Parking is long and narrow with few handicap spots. This could lead to a long walk if you're disabled- be aware. Vending machines on sight, and there is even a spot to get hot food behind the rest stop. Gotta know it's there or you won't see it until you leave. Yard Bird- and a crawfish spot. Definitely recommend the pit stop. read more

This rest area hit all of my requirements. They had a 180 degree turn into the parking lot to get folks to really slow down. Lots of parking, much of it shaded. Clean bathrooms. Tourist info and brochures for things to see all around Texas. And back onto the road with a decent acceleration lane to merge back into the traffic. And of course, a big "Welcome to Texas" sign for your selfie. Lots of space for a walk around for you and your dog. Drive friendly - the Texas way! When you've traveled for hours through one or more states on you way back to Texas, there is nothing that warms a Texan's heart more than hearing Google Maps say "Welcome to Texas" as you pull into this great place to walk a bit, use the restroom (maybe let the dog do the same) and look over some of brochures for your next adventure in Texas. Always like stopping at this rest area. Very clean both inside and out, plenty of restroom stalls and plenty of parking space.

The parking lot was confusing. The hours are 8-5, but I'm not fond of that. The bathrooms were okay, but even figuring out how to get to them after 5 was confusing. read more

This was the worst Rest Spot we stopped at. The stalls were nasty, and there was little to NO LIGHT in the parking lot at 10PM. A car pulled in and very slowly followed myself and two other girls that I am traveling with until they saw us arrive at our vehicle that clearly had more people. When we left we saw that the car had not parked in the parking lot and had left. Absolutely do not stop here, especially at night it is very UNSAFE. read more

Last November my husband and I decided to drive cross-country for our vacation. On the way back home we decided to drive back along I20, which I must say was better than the I40, which we took on the way to Georgia. Our plan was to take turns driving. He would drive during the day while I slept and vise versa. Unfortunately it didn't take long for me to realize we needed a plan B. I ended up having to stay up while my husband drove because my man-child would get bored and become drowsy despite the scenery and radio. So not only did it become my job to drive at night but kept my husband awake and distracted while he drove during the day. As I drove through Louisiana it became apparent to me that I would not be able to safely make it to our next destination while my husband comfortably rested next to me. If ever there was a time I wanted to choke him it was then!! I wanted to at least make it to the next town with a motel but my body was just not having it. I needed rest and I needed it ASAP. Fortunately my guardian angel smiled upon me and I saw signs leading to the next rest stop at the Texas state line, which luckily was only a few miles away. So, we finally got there and oh my gerd!!!! I have never seen a nicer rest stop! We arrived at night and noticed that it was well lit, almost too well. I drove around looking for a nice dark spot to sleep in. But there was light pretty much everywhere. I suppose for safety reasons this is good. Just then remembered I had my sleep mask and wasn't bothered too much by the light after that. The restrooms, which are open 24hrs, were clean and well stocked with soap, paper towels and toilet paper. There were vending machines with both drinks and snacks also well stocked. Parking was plentiful with areas for cars, vans, RV's and big rigs. They also have nice picnic tables and grassy areas where the 2-legged and 4-legged children can get some exercise and run around. The whole area was clean and free of liter. This is by far the best designed and well kept rest stop I've ever come across. It's modern and functional perfectly located and there restrooms....the restrooms I can't get over how clean they were! For those traveling eastbound on I20 and you need a break I would certainly pick this stop over all others. As I mentioned we stopped at night and the visitor center was closed, but what I did see of it, it was just as impressive as the other arts of the rest stop. I gotta give it up to Texas, they sure take travel seriously. read more

Every summer during my childhood my dad would take us on road trips. If we were to cross into another state or come back into Texas we would stop at the state travel centers. I have been to many of them in my life time. They are filled with great knowledge and a much needed restroom. The Texas travel center in Waskom is one of the best I have been to. The staff there is very knowledgeable and willing to help you. While my parents were using the restrooms one of the staff members start a conversation with me. We talked about where I live in Texas, where I been in Texas and gave me some really useful travel tips for the Hill Country. The restrooms were very clean and welcoming. The state has spent some good money in this center and it is worth the visit. The State of Texas publishes a travel guide that comes out every year. The guide is one of the best I have seen published by any state. It is a must to have in your car. Even if you think you know everything there is to do in Texas pick one up anyway. You will find a new adventure. read more

Without a doubt I can say this is one of the best rest area stops I've ever been to. Restrooms are very nice and clean, free WiFi, easy access to current travel information and weather, plus a friendly staff and lots of brochures. The surrounding grounds are also nice for taking a walk by yourself or with a pet. This rest area is such a welcome sight when crossing over from Louisiana! read more
