Normally I wouldn't write a review about restaurant chains however this one has won my heart and soul. TGI Fridays Melbourne Central is very conveniently located in the heart if Melbourne very close to RMIT. It offers a great all round American menu from Burgers to Tex Mex. I also love this place because it does express lunches for the suits that can be preordered online. There is also a fabulous outdoor deck which would be awesome for a boozy lunch! Try it. I absolutely had an awesome experience here! What a great venue. Great size and great layout! Love it! We went as a group and sat on the balcony with great view of the state library! Happy hour was on and drinks were cheap so a few Long Island ice teas for me, and they were yummy! Then onto the food, I had the jack Daniels burger, delicious meaty and great flavours! The portion size was not as big when comparing to the price that you paid for it but it was delicious! I had the jack daniels ribs and the sauce was yummy! Loved the cocktails and the price was good but i loved the selections. If your seating outside on a Friday or Saturday then I hope you dont mind it being abit loud as next door as a pub/club. Awesome place! The food is amazing. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic. It's got a great vibe inside suitable for just about anyone. To too if off, the location is also perfect with the outside area overlooking Swanston St. and the State Library. Been in Melbourne for a couple of weeks and really wanted a bit of American food. One can only eat so much teriyaki chicken, ramen and rice bowls. The menu is not like the Friday's in the US. I ordered the appetizer with three plates to share, Mac and cheese balls not very good, tastes like Kraft mac & cheese on the inside, very dry. I thought it would be more like the fried mac & cheese at The Cheesecake Factory, another US staple. The fajita nachos were terrible, all onion, very little meat, one of the four nachos didn't even have any chicken at all. I ordered a mudslide from the bar and it was excellent. Service was good too. I went to the one in New York last year and it was absolutely disgusting !! However Melbourne one I visited whilst on a short weekend away from Sydney. Were not greeted upon entering and had to wait around for 5 minutes for a waitress to seat us the chef just stared at us. The waitress sat us down and gave us menus and waited ages to come back and take our order. I ordered the starter of calamari which came with on top of soggy leaves and drenched in aoli which it doesnt say on the menu that the sauce is on the calamari and not on the side like a normal restaurant would have it. My sister ordered the honey mustard chicken wrap, the wrap was good but the chips were stone cold! And my calamari was slightly warm but not close to being hot enough to want to eat Do not recommend eating at any tgi fridays. I got a hair in my nachos at the eastland store! read more

I can't eat their food as it's not suitable for Coeliacs, but I can comment on service and drinks. When I walked in and said I wanted to get a drink I was told I could sit at the bar. I sit down only to be told by the manager I needed to move around the other side of the bar. Eh whatever. The place looks like it's American counterpart and obviously they are going for the American sports bar feel but they miss the mark. When I sat down a second time I noticed my favourite beer I used to drink in the States - Blue Moon. Years ago I looked for this and just couldn't find it in Australia. I can now no longer drink regular beer as it is not gluten free and was prepared to be very disappointed but luckily for me (not the other customers) the plastic on the taps told me they don't actually have it.. whew! I asked for a cider (which was on the happy hour list) only to find they didn't have it on tap even though they had a tap for it. Asked about happy hour wines and they only had one option for white which was too sweet. Nevermind, plenty of other places have chardonnay I'll just go elsewhere for that. Finally settled on a bourbon and diet coke. The post mix was soooo watery and flavourless. .truly the worst mixed drink I've had. Horrible. The bar tender was not unfriendly but not very interested. Shame considering they are going for the American bar feel as the service is certainly something you do get in the States. Judging by other comments, I'm guessing you get better service when you do order food (and perhaps don't care that the drinks you want aren't on tap or taste watery). read more

Okay, so we walk in the door and the manager is snapping his fingers at a waitress to come and serve us, she doesn't so he comes over very disgruntled and gives us a half assed apology while trashing his wait staff- SO PROFESSIONAL. The waitress approaches us within a minute of being seated and asks if we are ready to order...um no?! She says she'll come back in a few. The manager comes back over to take our order several minutes later, but not without the smartass comments like calling us boring if we don't order something outrageously spicy or alcoholic from the menu... Yeah this guy is somehow a manager! Our food comes and our waitress who had not been doing too much actual work comes over and asks if everything is okay.. I order another boring non alcoholic drink while she's here...the bar guy brings us both another drink...when we explain that only I ordered a drink he apologises and offers the other "on the house" for the mistake.. Then when it comes time to pay we are directed to the bar...we show our entertainment coupon. Which gives us 25% off the total bill. First the manager disagrees and says the coupon can only be used for mains and it's a waste for us to use it as we ordered a lot of sides to share etc..then when I said no, it's 25% off the total bill he said we can't use it on promotional (club card) items- club card items- have been unchanged for years and are not promotional, not that the coupon excludes any promotional items anyway. We decide it's not worth the argument... Even though the membership coupon has no such restrictions on it, it's not worth the hassle of talking to this guy who's a smartass with an inflated ego- he must feel pretty important for being manager of a food chain store... Lesson learnt, when we next go to TGIs we will head to our local, not the Melbourne central one with the bearded douche. Two stars for good food...even though TGIs maintains that consistently across their restaurants. read more

Went there on a Tuesday night, ordered 2 burgers, and had to wait about 45 minutes for them even though the restaurant was mostly empty. Were nearly late to a concert, was at the point of 'in 5 more minutes we're walking out and cancelling the order' before they actually came out. read more

I hate giving negative reviews but I feel like this TGI Fridays sadly deserves it. Don't get me wrong, the location of this TGI Fridays is fantastic, however the service and the food in my opinion is not. I went here recently with my boyfriend, my best friend, and her boyfriend and we were really disappointed in the over all experience. We were seated in a great spot, Ill give them that, right in front of the bar and TV however that didn't make up for the cons of the experience. We ordered our meals after 15 minutes of being there, after waiting an hour we were starting to become really restless and angry. Our waitress finally came over to tell us that about 20 minutes prior to her coming up top us, their was an issue with the machine and our orders didn't go through. We understand that this can happen from time to time, but we would have liked it if she had told us when she found out, 20 minutes earlier. Watching people around us receive their meals before us who had been there for a less amount of time then we had was frustrating. We finally received our meals after waiting an hour and 35 minutes. My steak was rare, when I requested medium rare, My friends boyfriends pasta was not hot, but almost cold, and the rest of us who had ordered chips, had over cooked, rubbery chips. We all walked away from our tables with a lot of food on our plates. While we waited a waitress did not come and speak to us to see if we requested drinks or anything else, I feel like the service and the food were very poor. The waitress we had too, was very rude, banging the plates on the table and didn't want to even smile it seemed like. We aren't cheap skates, but we thought that because of the poor service money would have been taken off the bill or a voucher or something would have been offered, but no. It wasn't, we were given the full price bill and treated poorly. We will not be attending this TGI' Fridays again. Our experience was horrible, but we hope if you all choose to go here, your experience is a much better one. read more

Nice meals although the honey mustard sauce is very hot and spicy(not supposed to be) and the mash potato has coriander in it(surprise) no thanks. We would have had the chips, please tell customers what's in the food so they can make an informed decision. read more
