Two 8bit with cheese, a golden axe (fried chicken burger), chips and onion rings. Great presentation!

8bit's new CBD location is in the perfect spot to get a huge amount of customers (and far easier to get to than their previous Footscray store), however if you are planning to eat in, their seemingly always packed store can be a little off putting. I finally took the plunge recently and while it was just as difficult to get a seat as I imagined it would be, we managed to luckily get one before our food came. I had their 8bit with cheese, and thought it was really nice and a good filling burger. Their chips were also quite nicer than the average chips you get in some burger stores. However I found their onion rings not so great. Their service was good, and hopefully in the future if their store quietens down a bit it'll be easier to eat in more often.

One of my pals who lives in Melbourne swears by 8Bit so I thought I'd have to give it a go - at 9:30pm on a weekday. Whoop de doo and glad I did - how convenient as well if you had late night burger cravings! I really wanted a hotdog but they were all sold out by then which is understandable. I settled the After Burner to spice things up (ha...) with japapenos, red onion and chipotle - what could possibly go wrong? Nothing. Every bite was a delight. The proportions were just right, the sauce was tasty and the patty plentiful. The chips were nicely salted as well. Lastly if you don't get anything thing at all, get the nutella milkshake. Because nutella milkshake. Decadent.

I heard about this place when I was perusing my yelp app one afternoon, and due to the rave reviews that it got I decided to go an check it out. The problem was that the line outside was huge, and I really didn't have all that much time for lunch, so I decided to come back here for dinner recently. Well, the lines were still pretty long, and it was probably fifteen odd minutes before I got my burger, but it was certainly worth the wait. I would probably recommend you take away since there aren't a huge number of seats in here, but then again it is on Swanston Street. Once again, I've found a place that does some decent chips (along with topping) and a really good burger. I just have to find the time to wait in line.

The hunt for Melbourne's best burger joint continues and sadly is far from over after a visit to 8bit's city location. I should say that my visit happened to coincide with White Night which may have affected the standard of burgers, however the issue was not with their staff or service, it was with the burger itself. The patty was just dry and overcooked - it was a rather large thin number - unlike your standard burger thic/ round concoction. I think this may have affected the end result as maybe that is the shape of their usual patties and that is what they usually cook, as the burger I was served was overcooked and nearing the point of crispy at the edges, meaning there was no taste to the burger really at all. The 8bit sauce was a welcome addition in the flavour department, however obviously nothing can really be done when the burger patty itself is a let down. I should note that despite being under the pump on white night, the staff were still happy and helpful, sadly the product just let them down in a big way, so much so that I can't see myself wanting to make a return to give them the chance to redeem themselves, especially when there are other places in the CBD that deliver on deliciousness!

8bit is a great little cheap eat right in the heart of the CBD. It's usually busy so has a good atmosphere and it's bright and funky. It's very much a quick eat/take our place so while there's not much seating it's usually possible to get a seat without too much of a wait! We had hotdogs and potato gems! Hot dogs are tasty, we had the Brit dog and wonder dog, both were yum and they are pretty big. They were happy to adjust our order slightly as my other half didn't want all the toppings on his. It's fast food, it's not fancy but is nicely presented, tastes good and is a step up from most comparable places.

Should be called 2-Bit burgers. Shocking service. Ordered 2 burgers and a shake but only received 1, luckily we hadn't left the store. They then took the burger out of the bag and placed it on the counter as they couldn't identify which one they had given us. The remaining burger was ordered without an ingredient due to an allergy issue. We saw they realised they had included the ingredient and opened the burger and used their fingers to scrape off the item and then bag it for us. We highlighted the issue and they said there were sure there was no ingredient remaining. Not wanting to cause a fuss we left only to find the allergy ingredient was covered over with sauce. I liked the old school Atari shop theme but that's where the best part ended. Someone will either die or sue them. They have a great peanut shake.. The boss needs to do some quality control.

I don't understand why the CBD location isn't as good as the 8bit in Footscray ? My food/experience was great - everything was appropriately crispy, tasty, & fresh. Yes they were busy but it was lunch time & it is the city - so that's expected. Good places are busy for a reason ! All I know is that it was so tasty that we were still trying to finish all of our food even if we were full (shared between 2 people) - it was too good to leave behind. Honestly ranked pretty high on my top 5 burger list now. Wanted to try more off their menu since they offer hot dogs, shakes & gems. So defs coming back here to have food comas for sure - 10/10.

Just like in Footscray, I ordered their 8bit with Cheese. My patty was slightly dry compared to the one that I had but I don't mind. Love the buttery bun!

Has Melbourne reached peak burger yet!? Apparently not because 8-Bit just keeps expanding. While there are burger joints going up everywhere the team here have really gone all out on the theme and branding - this will be the most instagramable takeaway bag you will ever see! We love the fries and the burger options are slim but well made. One criticism is the sauces used which are all brought in and nothing to write home about. It would be nice to have a little more variety. Still excellent fast food. There is usually a little wait for food to come out but it's worth it. You will struggle to find a table if you have a group of more than two people so better to come here solo, as a duo or get take away and enjoy the sights on Swanston st. Yum burgers!

Over the past 12months burger joints have opened up in and around the city, with most succeeding in various ways. The heart of the success, is the burger, without a great burger there is little chance of success of a great burger joint. 8bit in Melbourne CBD is a burger restaurant that, you guessed it, serves a variety of burgers and sides, as well as a selection of "gourmet hot dogs". This week I visited twice. The first venture into this funky venue I ordered the FATAL FURY with Jalapeño & Cheddar Sausage, Cheese Sauce, Chilli Beef, Jalapeños, with a side of onion rings. On paper this hot dog ticked all my taste boxes, so I was really looking forward to munching down on my Fatal Fury. Unfortunately this dog was Fatal, but not in a good way. Firstly the Jalapeño & Cheddar Sausage, had no flavour and was actually unpleasant to eat. The chilli beef was bland with little heat. The best part was the bun, but unfortunately it's bum was soggy which made it really hard to eat. So with fatality of the dog I was praying that the onion rings would save the day. Not to be. The onions itself, nice, but too much batter and undercooked. So as 8bit's core product is their burgers,I felt it only fair to go back for a second time and sample their burgers. This time I ordered the 8BIT WITH CHEESE. Beef, Tomato, Lettuce, Red Onion, Pickles, Mustard, Cheese, Ketchup, 8bit Sauce. With a side of chips. This was a step up from the hot dog. It was a good burger, but not great. I think it was the beef patty that let it down. They advertise it as being served medium, but mine was serve well done. In fact it was very well done and lacked flavour. The fries, disappointing. I got served the scraps, with only a few fries that had potato in them, the others just small chucks of over cooked chips. In a time that the burger is the flavour of the month and a great deal of good burger joints out there, 8bit just need to work on their beef patty. The only redeemable part to 8bit is the price.

In time this will hopefully improve to become a great place, but at the moment they need to do work on improving the visitor experience. The retro arcade décor is cute, but the lack of air-conditioning on hot days, the loud music and the staff who seem to not quite know how to take orders make it a not particularly pleasant place to visit. That's a shame because the food is pretty good. The chips are better than most burger places with a lot of flavour and just the right amount of crunch. The burger was tasty but they also follow the annoying trend of slightly under-cooking them.

Awesome branding and concept. Graphics look great. Burger was a bit hard to taste, overpowered by too much salt. I will try again though

The name suggests a connection to the street or bridge in NYC. Am I correct? Located in the alley between Flinders and Collins, parallel to Russell, it was a bit unexpected to find this eatery here. With plenty of tables on the patio and inside, the atmosphere was inviting. Being alone, I didn't want to occupy a larger table, so I decided to grab my order to go. After glancing over the menu, my eyes locked on the 'Reuben,' thinking 'this can't go wrong.' The staff were kind and friendly. Despite not dining in, they allowed me to sit and wait at a table. After a few minutes, I received my order and rushed back to the hotel because I couldn't wait! Excitement led me to open the box like a treasure chest, revealing a huge sandwich - the portion I had been searching for. In Japan, where I live, the general trend is to reduce portions to maintain prices rather than increase prices to keep portions consistent in the face of inflation. Now you understand how crucial this is. Another crucial aspect - the taste was on point. With a generous portion of meat, it dominated the experience along with the sourness from the pickled cabbage. It was a bit too sour for my taste, but I assume that's how a Reuben usually tastes. Overall, I was really pleased with this place and would love to come back again.

I have to say, THIS is by far.... THE BEST recommendation we've ever received! The restaurant was a tad bit difficult to find, having not been to Australia and not being familiar with basement restaurants, lol. It had quite a unique secluded vibe from the moment the door swung open. The atmosphere was almost hypnotic! There weren't too many patrons eating when we arrived .. but we did arrive shortly after opening. By the time we were finished the tables were 75% occupied, I think in part to only being open for dinner Tuesday-Saturday. The food, as well as the service were both TOP NOTCH! I don't typical care for red meat... but I ordered steak and it was extremely well-prepared! So delicious!!! I asked for it to be well done! It DID come out charcoaled so I made a comment to my husband that was over-heard by the chef, himself! Moments later, he personally delivered a new dinner plate to me with a replacement! Now THAT'S what I call top-notch service! I REALLY wish Meatmaiden would expand to the US! That would be the icing on the cake!!!

We can't brag enough about our new find. COVID stopped our travels to Melbourne for three years but hopefully no longer. We selected some winners. They were: 1) Grilled Bread with Beef Fat Butter; 2) 350g Westholme Wagu NY Strip; 3) GEM Lettuce salad; and 4) Hand cut chips. - The Grilled Bread was actually a fried bread that was then brushed with honey and lightly grilled on the bbq. The Beef Fat Butter was awesome. My spouse didn't care for it but I adored it. - Grilled Wagu NY Strip was 330+ day grain fed which only intensified the marble and added so much taste. Not a bite left and it was almost 13 ounces of pure meat. It was perfectly cooked to medium rare (-) temperature. It came with a choice of a sauce and we paid for an additional one. The Three Pepper Sauce and the Beef Fat Bernaise. Both were awesome. I need the recipes! - GEM Lettuce Salad with radishes and dressed with a Burnt Grapefruit Vinaigrette. The vinaigrette made the salad. - Hand Cut Chips w/ a Garlic Aioli - another perfect taste. The chips had a great crispy outside with a very smooth inside. And the Aioli was addictive. Do no pass this great place by. We did not have reservations but should have. We got there early and they were slammed. We saw two empty tables and they offered us one by the front entrance. We eyed the other table and they said "if you can be finished in 1 1/2 hours...we laughed and said there would be no problem and probably be out of here in an hour! MeatMaiden was so upbeat. We just kept looking around in awe. Two old ladies eating in a basement. The atmosphere is awesome. Somewhat darkly lit but light enough to see your food. Very high energy crowd. Service was spectacular. Toward the end of our meal the hostess came over and said we could stay a bit longer. We said thanks but not needed. Highly recommend and also recommend making an advanced booking. Enjoy.

Between us, we shared home made cornbread & a salsa dish. I honestly did not have enough time to grab my phone to check in on social media sites, and BANG!!! The food was served. There is no way to describe what sort of party my taste buds were having in my mouth, however this party could have made some serious money on cover charges to this party. I always go for the regular chocolate, one friend had the strawberry and the other had vanilla. We all got to try a bit of each since they gave us our extra from the blend. The shakes weren't bad, we all enjoyed it all, it made us all feel like kids for a moment.

I made a reservation (which was not necessary - I chose a quieter time) and off we went. My father and I are both American so have spent plenty of time in the real thing and we were pleasantly surprised. Atmosphere is VERY cool, it has all the great 50's and onwards hits so you and everyone you go with end up singing to every song. There's little juke boxes on every table (revving that nostalgia) that really work to make the jukebox in the corner play whatever songs you'd like from their "diner" play list. Lovely! I am Vegan and my boyfriend vegetarian, as this is a burger place it's usually very hard to find a meal. However, the buns are Vegan and their Veggie burger is great (mine no Mayo) along with a side of shoe string fries and a cherry coke, I didn't feel I missed out on the experience at all which is very important. The wait staff do a song and dance which is cool (I thought) ride on roller skates and at the end of our meal made a big to do celebrating my boyfriend's birthday, and have him an ice-cream sundae with a candle in it. Was awesome and very memorable! The one gripe is the music is slightly loud and when the pinball machines start, it can be hard to hear. However, this only really annoyed those in my group who were 70+. Great memorable night, made by the atmosphere alone!

This was my daughter's 18th birthday celebration dinner, and the kind manager approached our table, wished my daughter a happy birthday, and asked if she could get my daughter anything special. My daughter asked for apple cider--the first time she has ever tasted alcohol--which the manager gave her on the house. I told the manager that, unlike her friends, my daughter never drank before turning 18, and tonight at Belles, was her first drink. The manager congratulated her, and gave my daughter a fist-bump, which meant so much to my daughter. Thank you for making it such a special night for my daughter.

Came in a group of 8 and the staff were accommodating and got us 2 tables. The tap beer is decent value for money as it's slightly larger than a schooner. Now for the chicken. The wings are actual wings and seems like all the chicken comes in 4 pieces and solid portion of sides. The "really f**kin hot" has a good kick. For me it wasn't melt my mouth hot but still gave a decent chilli sweats. It is heavily coated in the spice seasoning which is rather powdery and sticks to your fingers. The medium is still rather spicy though for those without the desire to die by chilli. The winter is a good side and a slightly spicy seasoning on the fries. The blue cheese sauce was pretty eh. Diffuses the chilli but was more like ranch sauce. I would say it's worth the hype, plus you get to take home any leftovers. Also avoid touching your eyes or sensitive skin after as even hours later my eyes still felt line they were on fire when I took my contacts out
